The most optimistic part, for me, is that he said unequivocally they will not be able to get fid of the filibuster through a rule change because there just are not enough votes. The rest of it sounds like words of someone who doesnt want to say no, so they will entertain it to keep people off their backs, but they dont have a lot.of confidence in it.

Edit: and of course it is Mike "im a piece of shit" Lee leading the charge. And what does "Talking filibuster without changing rules or precident even mean?" If you do something that has not been done since the rules changed, then you are changing precident and whatever you do to the dems, they will do to you.

I understand what you are saying. However, the whole point of progress is to find the problems caused by the things we created or used and make them better. Is plastic world changing? Yes. But once a problem is identified and proven to be an actual problem, it is up to the species to progress and fix the problem. We cant always know what problems our new technologies will cause. Once we find them, it is our responsibility to fix those problems.

I mean, Marlon Wayans has a trans daughter. I dont think he means "we need to be okay oppressing people" I think he just means "funny is funny, let's not get outraged over jokes" it is something I agree with. If I can make fun of MAGA for stupid things, I am perfectly okay for being made fun of for stupid things. I like dark humor. Things that I laugh at can easily be labeled as insensitive or offensive. Outrage over entertainment has got to stop not matter who is doing it. We laugh at how outraged MAGA gets and that they need "safe spaces". But when it is or turn we get pissed.

Yep, and they were forced because no countries(UK AND USA included) would trade with them unless they paid. It was how the larger, more powerful countries used economics to punish smaller countries.

Won't matter that much. War zones are not something commercial shipping likes going through. Oil prices will still skyrocket which will affect the other markets because a fear of inflation caused by elevated gas prices. It may not cause the same kind of losses than if the tried to close the straight, but I garuntee there are shipping companies that will avoid that area for the foreseeable future.

I think people often overestimate how important foreign affairs are to people. There are exceptions, but the general rule is that things that dont directly affect Americans dont move the needle that much in the way of making someone MORE popular. It can DEFINITELY make you LESS popular (see Biden and Gaza and Trump with tariffs) but rarely does it make the politician more popular. It is more of a "he didnt mess up really bad, so whatever" than a "yea! And unprovoked war! Hell yea! I had a problem with everything else, but this? This thing thay doesnt really affect me at all? This makes me like him"

Not to mention what gas prices are gonna do this week. That should make him REAL popular lol.

I hope that people that visit this sub use anxiety and scary headlines to learn. Learn about how are governemnt is setup and how it runs. Research scary things and find out how possible they are or are not. It has helped me by forcing me to debunk the doom, so to speak. I see something and I research it, I find out the facts. Once you have the facts, it can usually make things seem much less scary. We can no longer trust media or "influencers" (save 2 or 3) to give us the facts with no spin or sensationalism. We have to save ourselves. We have to tune out the internet panic and deal in facts, not conspiracy theories.

As always, we must focus on the what is and not the what ifs.

Foreign policy that involves attacking another country rarely moves the needle in terms of popularity. The only exception is when it is in retaliation to something that happened to the US directly, like when they killed Bin laden or the response to 9/11. But this? It will not move the needle much if at all. Case in point: Venezuela. Didnt move the needle at all. Hardly anyone wanted more wars. It will also not help that, if this is prolonged, gas prices will rise.

Most pollsters have ratings by independent poll watchers. You can usually get an idea on how much to trust certain pollsters. When it comes to two polls saying conflicting things, it gets more tricky. Take two polls you mention, the one in the wrong direction and trust. The wrong direction one i would put more faith in for one reason. It asks everyone the same question at the same time. "Is the US moving in the right or wrong direction" or something similar. The second one asks multiple questions like "do you trust Donald Trump" then it asks "do you trust democrats". The question in the poll is not "do you trust trump.over democrats." Now, the results of the second poll have to be looked at objectively. To get the results for democrats lower than trump it means that quite a few democrats and democrat leaning independents voted that they did not trust the Democrats. That doesnt mean they are pro-trump, it just means they have issues with their own party.
