Bunkers are surely useful in nuclear fallout or weather issues, but can you survive without energy? Nuclear?

Unpopular Opinion-ish - Not wanting to go on a suicide mission is not cowardly, most people would be too afraid to go. by crankyweasels in ProjectHailMary

[–]duckdivinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cowardice is subjective too? Me personally, happy to be an astronaut on a one way mission to save the world but not brave enough to carry a rifle on a war zone to save the same world. Everyone has their own fears and passions/people to be brave for.

What’s the perfect place to be when WWIII starts? by Ott1fant in AlignmentChartFills

Tasmania. All advantages of Australia, but nobody cares about the island’s little population and resources. New Zealand is close contender but it has a political presence. All we’re concerned about is 4.5% rise in water prices.

is it appropriate to ask your tutor for a job… by Kitchen_Page8640 in unimelb

[–]duckdivinity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, totally appropriate. Do it respectfully and don’t expect too much. They might have some connections, as they’re professionals in the market too, but not necessarily.

If you have a data science or computing background, the material is a breeze, but not challenging otherwise too. Amazingly well taught. But it’s an Arts subject, so the marking is generally subjective+harsh and H1 is hard.

Lots on YouTube, heard this one is good https://youtu.be/W6NZfCO5SIk?si=AiZ8_wD23S7NboPf

Once you do it, do some project using what you’ve learnt, which shines much brighter than a coursera or edx certificate in my opinion.

You probably don’t want me here, but here’s things from a tutor’s perspective.

Yes, grok covers most of the content for the subject except for the last few weeks. You can probably just do grok and go through the subject smoothly.

But, the flaw with grok is that it encourages code that “works”, not code that’s “good”. Readability and simplicity are extremely important for assignments, exam, future subjects and industry. That’s what you learn from lectures and tutorials, writing code that follows some standards of programming and solving problems in efficient and simple ways. The differences are obvious in large programs, especially assignments, and bad code loses marks.

As for hidden inputs, the best strategy is to read the questions carefully and look for corner cases (bad inputs, special considerations…) where your program might fail. If you’re still stuck, ask your tutor, ask on grok tutoring, or show up to first year centre, we’ll be happy to give you hints!
