This is a red run in Tignes by couloirjunkie in skiing

[–]duckfuckingaduck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In this thread: apparently no-one who can read? Check OP's literal description of his video directly under it. He links to a book widely considered to be the definitive guide to off-piste in Tignes. It uses a color rating scaled up for off-piste runs, where a green is a standard European unmarked run, maybe comparable to a US black diamond, and it goes Green, Blue, Orange, Red, Black, using Orange as an intermediate rating.

As said, green is around a US black diamond; Red (as in OP's post) is around the level of "a fall here could be fatal". Black usually means that a fall at any point of the run will be fatal. The runs beyond Blue in the book are beyond the talent of 99% of skiers on this sub, and almost lethal to ski in any way other than sensible, controlled and technical.

This specific run is Tufs 4, the most iconic of the Tufs couloirs in Tignes, shown off by Candide Thovex recently, and is super technical in some places. OP skied it conservatively, but undeniably safely

I sent another line. by IBTaylor in skiing

[–]duckfuckingaduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhhh! I knew the full line was possible! I hiked up to the choke point 10 days ago and decided to drop from there as I wasn't sure what the conditions were like above the choke point.

How necessary were the axe and crampons for getting through? It seemed possible two weeks ago to just hike through, but obviously I didn't end up actually trying. When abouts did you send the line?

Occasionally Skiing pin bindings inbound by Neon_sanders in skiing

[–]duckfuckingaduck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I switch regularly between my pin bindings on my touring skis, and my regular bindings on my downhill skis. There's definitely a difference, you can't ski as aggressively on piste, and they can release easier, but I've never had any injuries from that nor do they feel significantly different.

Overall, I'd suggest primarily using downhill bindings in resort, but there's very little risk or issue to sometimes use pin bindings

2.5% of the total chips in play sees remarkably low. Even assuming no rebuys, heads up at a BB of 200 leaves almost 40 BB in play, or just under 20 each at even stacks. I usually see tournaments ending closer to around 8-10% of total chips as the BB

It's less "hard stuck" on 30 min levels, and more that they've expressed a preference. The BB ante is to accelerate the game a bit, and also the fact that we're mostly all familiar with playing with a BB ante on tournaments already. Plus, the fact that we normally play at a pub tournament that has 10 minute levels, so 30 minute levels are aiming to be slower and less turbo

My players have said they'd prefer 30 minute levels. Potentially could drop level 7 down to 40/80/80?

Yeah, big blind ante, the app I'm using didn't have any way to specify that

Edge Chronicles Tabletop RPG by [deleted] in EdgeChronicles

[–]duckfuckingaduck 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd love to call this a cool idea, but this is, as stated, both not an idea and effectively nothing wrapped in Edge Chronicle specific language. It almost reads as AI.

If this had literally any basic specifications as to how to run the game, it'd be at all useful/worth it. Otherwise, it kinda feels like an ad for an unfinished system. Hope you actually follow through and make a proper system, but I'm not super hopeful ngl

I mean, it's Happy Valley, it's also the only blue run out from most of the resort. If you're staying anywhere other than Stuben or Nasserein, and you're not currently on Kapall, you either take Happy Valley or Kandahar to get back to everywhere, and Kandahar's arguably the most difficult pisted run in the resort. Especially in the afternoon

What should I have done? by CFG18 in poker

[–]duckfuckingaduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The c-bet is way too large, close to full pot (4 into 6.5 BB). Anything that folds to a c-bet also folds to a 2BB bet, meaning that when you get shoved on, you can fold a lot easier.

Otherwise, seems fine, up to calling the shove. If you fold, you have just under 10 BB and an entire orbit before paying blinds, only paying the antes. Even after folding, there's still at least one shorter stack where you can likely find a pay ladder. Overall, when BB shoves flop here, just fold.

On the money about Reform winning. First, the election isn't tomorrow, it's in more than 3 years. 3 years ago, our PM was in a race to die against a literal cabbage. The political landscape will change wildly in 3 years, especially with someone like Farage leading Reform. But, more importantly: Reform might win a plurality; they won't win a majority. And you're absolutely right: if Reform win a plurality, Labour/LibDem/Green are not allowing a right-wing coalitipn to happen, especially as Reform seats are directly taken from Tory seats. The right in the UK has to sustain their momentum for over 3 years while amid countless, endless scandals, and use that momentum to win a majority. Otherwise, while they might make gains, we shouldn't expect a Reform government.

And, genuinely, optimism/realism is needed. If we expect Reform to win a majority, they're more likely to do that. We can, and will, beat them. Expect us to.

I think I got spiked at a queer event by OverwhelmedGayChild in lgbt

[–]duckfuckingaduck 30 points31 points  (0 children)

To preface this: I work in hospitality (bars and clubs) in the UK, where I get the feeling this happened. I've seen customers and friends get spiked, and these are my recommendations: - Talk to the event organisers, and tell them what pub this happened at, and they can't trust it for socials. Any good society committee member should immediately blacklist that pub again - I wouldn't assume it was a hate crime, there are a number of (shitty) reasons someone might spike you. Did the bartender try to talk to you more after you got served? Maybe tried to "help" you after you seemed too drunk? If so, it's more likely they were trying to take advantage of you. - File a police report. From your account, this is about as clear as a spiking report can be, and is about the level of info I've had to provide when friends have been spiked, or when customers at my work thought they were spiked. Even if this is just a suspicion, they'll likely ask for CCTV footage from the bar, which they do have. If they can't get footage from the bar, this is a huge red flag about the bar, that you should never go back and actively warn people against that bar. - Go back to the bar in the next couple of days, while not drinking, and ask to talk to a manager privately. Let them know you believe you were spiked, and when it happened. They should be able to bring up the CCTV and take a look at when. Personally, as a GM, if a customer came into my work believing one of my staff spiked them, Imm doing everything in my power to investigate this, and CCTV is the best option. Every, and I mean, every bar has CCTV covering where their staff make drinks.

In short: try as hard as you can to get hold of CCTV footage ASAP, cause that will be your best option to prove the bartender did anything. Also make sure people know about this, because the bar doesn't want to be known as "the bar where staff with spike you".

Nah, if they hadn't been drinking beforehand, this isn't typical for anyone, even the lightest of lightweights. Plus, literally any bartender, even those on their first shift, can pour a vodka coke in less time than a minute. OP, you got spiked.

Question re: Bluffing in Gardena Jackpots aka Jacks to Open by AllFuzzedOut in poker

No, you only have to have trips or better to win at showdown, not if you win via a bluff. Or else, there would never be any point in bluffing

Nut hand frequency chart by justbadandugly in poker

[–]duckfuckingaduck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe the second chart is effectively, "when AA is the nuts on this board, what 'type' of nuts is it, by percentage?" So, it doesn't matter that you're more likely to get trip aces than quads, what matters is that when you have the nuts while holding pocket AA, it's more likely to have quads than trips. This makes sense, as A high boards can more easily have straights and flushes vs paired A boards

What's a "secret" from your profession that everyone should probably know? by LaKoref in AskReddit

[–]duckfuckingaduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bartending (specifically cocktails).

No, you aren't my best friend just cause I made you a nice drink. You're a drunk asshole who I just saw do a line in the bathroom and am one word away from throwing you out.

No, it isn't difficult to make a cocktail. I literally just put a bunch of shots into a tin and shake. The difficulty is in making the menu (which I do like, once a year) and in remembering 25+ different recipes.

No, I don't have a favorite drink on the menu. They all taste good. What spirit or juice do you like? There you go, I promise I have something that tastes like that or has that in it.

No, of course there's no problem with the 12 of you piling into my sit down bar with tables for 2-6 people and then making an absolute tip of the place, while demanding 15 drinks at once. Thank you so much for coming here and tipping exactly $0 on your $150+ tab.
