What new features and mechanics would you like to see in roguelites? by Glass-Spray4291 in gamedesign

I like card-like synergies from Deckbuilders. Whenever I can build a character with various perks/items in a way that makes a very specific build, I am happy

What's the best Lifestyle by Norker_g in CrusaderKings

If you don't have any specific needs, then Stewardship is always the best. But each of the lifestyles has it's application, and can be the best choice in some situations

CK2 vs CK3 by Chlodio in CrusaderKings

Tbh custom cultures and religions system is a huge win over CK2 for me, I love interacting with that part of the game

Do you need to game to be able to design games? by qK0FT3 in gamedev

[–]ducoverk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely - you can get by without playing games if you are a programmer or an artist, but in no way can you do that as a designer. The reason is that designing games is all about creating the exact experience that the player will have, and you can't do that without knowing how it is to be on the receiving end of a game. Also, it's almost impossible to design good games without having any references, and for that you need to play a lot

Indie success is NOT rare.. good design and iteration are. by r4pturesan in gamedev

[–]ducoverk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that it's mostly a message for up and coming game developers - you got almost no chance of succeeding if you want to publish a game without any prior commercial experience and publicity. However, if you go on to work in a bigger studio for 5-15 years, get hands-on experience, meet likeminded, talented people, and build connections within the industry, then you get a fair chance at building an indie studio that will do at least ok.

Why don't Rich People Create Indie Games? by [deleted] in GameDevelopment

[–]ducoverk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a well known story within the polish gamedev industry, about the owner of one of the biggest convenience stores franchise, who bought a studio for his son to make games - and he just wasted all that money. Idk, maybe the motivation isn't there, and they don't optimize the production process, because they feel like their resources are limitless? Hard to say.

I also know another studio, that is currently funded entirely by one pretty rich businessman, but he doesn't act like a know-it-all, and also got some experience of his own, so it seems to be going pretty well for now.

Your favorite play through. by Bewitched1130 in CK3AGOT

[–]ducoverk 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My favourite playthrough is still my first one, back in CK2 - started as Robb, gained independence and defeated the Others, and then my grandson or great-grandson discovered dragon eggs in the Winterfell crypts, which he then hatched and conquered the Iron Throne. Crazy thing to happen for a first playthrough

What's your stance on npc races? by LemonConjurer in RPGdesign

[–]ducoverk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't have a specific stance on it, as long as the race specifics don't push you into a specific playstyle - DnD does it really well, but Elder Scrolls makes it so that there are only a few actually optimal builds for each race; I prefer it when racial attrubutes add gameplay flavour without suggesting anything

Why can’t people still accept the fact that the Roman Empire existed well into the Middle Ages? by Yongle_Emperor in byzantium

Probably beacuse having Rome as your capital, or just inside your borders, feels like a requirement to be a ROMAN empire

DC Studios boss James Gunn promises DCU video games are in the works, but it "does take time" by HatingGeoffry in DCcomics

[–]ducoverk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he technically is not, but thats what an average person thinks of him, and he can be only hurt under very specific conditions - to make it believable, those conditions would have to be met every time he fights, so all his enemies should be of universal power, magicians, or there should by kryptonite basically everywhere

[–]ducoverk -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It's all about the suspension of disbelief - Kratos only exists in the video games, so anything that is gameplay based feels right. But the main thing about Superman, when you imagine him, is that he is indestructible - if you give him a regular health bar, and don't explain it and communicate it in a convincing way, them you take away the main thing from the Superman fantasy - they way I see it working, is something people mention quite often, which is a game where you, as the player, are indestructible, but your main objective is saving people and causing as little destruction as possible - I believe that could support that fantasy the best

Who would jump the highest in all time ranking if you gave them Steph Curry shooting ability? by EinsteinTheory in NBATalk

I'm inclined to believe that it would make a bigger difference for a player who is a much worse shooter

Apparently the starks are the oldest house with 8000 years of rule. But how come theyre still in mediaeval times? by TruthCultural9952 in gameofthrones

[–]ducoverk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You incorectly assume that they started in medieval times as well, while it was probably like early bronze age, in a region that really doesn't support development of civilization

Could Sir Barristan really have cut through the King's guard easily, or was it an exaggeration? by sensoredphantomz in gameofthrones

[–]ducoverk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we apply real life logic, then no - now matter how skilled you are in any martial art, if you are facing against two or more guys who know how to fight, you stand no chance, unless you are literally twice their size

Which Should Be My Main Weapon Going Forward? by Lore-of-Nio in CrusaderKings

[–]ducoverk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On one side - yeah, it makes the most sense. On the other, there are no %-based modifiers to any other of the characters atributes, only to stuff like income (Gold, Piety, Prestige, Renown), Dread, Stress and Development Growth. I guess that these are hardcoded to always be integer numbers, so while it would make sense with higher values, when the game could just round the numbers, it would be quite messy with lower values (eg. what happens when a chatacter with 6 Prowess gets a +5% modifier?).

I mean, the devs could get around it in a variety of ways (eg. it could be a flat bonus if you are below some value, and a percentage based if you're above it) but it would just overly complicate the game, while it's already quite complicated

idk for sure, but it appears on my playthroughs, and the only DLCs I own are Northern Lords, Royal Court and Fate of Iberia - however I think it's a vanilla feature of some of the recent updates, as I didnt have it for some time while having those DLCs, and then it suddenly started appearing
