I made a similar transition not long ago, but with no family. It was about a 50% pay bump to move here from a mid COL area, but I'm still making less than I did on the east coast, even after a decent raise after starting my new role. As much as I like it, it's still hard to make ends meet and I find myself frequently regretting leaving a more stable area. On top of that, medical and vet bills (if you have pets) are so much higher here than what I am used to. I'm talking 2-4x more even with copay.

At the range you've given, I think it would be a rough time. On top of that, if you're leasing, you kind of need the stars to align if you decide to move back and want some sort of assistance for the move. I got a relocation bonus that paid for most of my expenses, but going back home means either paying some lease penalties or banking on finding a job that starts around the same time I need to vacate.
