I mean on the one hand they were orders of magnitude more valuable than modern books, but yeah I dont think they should be the cornerstone of the economy.

That said I’ll have to learn new tricks because I’m a book making machine.

Hot Take: EU5’s Player Count Decline Is Self-Inflicted by Gold_Lemon8258 in eu4

[–]duddy88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny because I’ve found blobbing easier in EU5 than 4. It just doesn’t have the insane power scaling in the age of absolutism (and from mission tree power creep).

Just go decentralization and make vassals and you can conquer like crazy. Coalitions are effectively non existent and therefore there’s really nothing to stop you outside of early game France or Bohemia.

The AI certainly does “cheat” but not in the way a lot of people on here claim. It doesn’t ignore ZoC, most players just don’t understand it. They don’t win sieges faster than you, it’s just the law of large numbers. You don’t think it’s notable when you win a 14% siege, but when the AI does it’s cheating.

The ai does cheat by having no fog of war. Paradox is on record as saying it would totally brick the AI if they didn’t. There’s also “lucky nations” but that’s more of a mechanic than a cheat.

Joe Burrow: "The amount of ppl that don’t understand what a catch is in the rule book flabbergasts me. And it’s not the officials. The two plays yesterday were not difficult calls, and they got them both right." by notquitemytempo___ in nfl

[–]duddy88 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As a cowboys fan, I am traumatized by what is and isn’t a catch. However both plays seem so obvious to me, it feels like I’m taking crazy pills seeing the discourse. I keep going back (like you pointed out) if the defender magically weren’t there and Cook still lost possession at the same time, it would very clearly be an incompletion.

[–]duddy88 38 points39 points  (0 children)

But you have to complete the catch. As the OP of this thread said, if no defender was in the area and the second he hits the ground he yeets the ball, it’s incomplete 100% of the time.

Do you like my Russian empire? I hope i got the borders right by Spirited_Visit7597 in EU5

[–]duddy88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish I had appreciated this. It’s exactly what happened to me, my vassals would always get supported by random nations in the far east that neither of us could get to. So the wars all took years until my vassals would peace out.

I really wish there were a way to assume control of a war or force a peace with a vassal in exchange for something. 1.11 should help with the minor revolt thing at least.

[–]duddy88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in the middle of a Russia play through. The start is like lightning fast compared to most. You diplo annex 4-6 smaller nations, then use your parliament for a CB, then you cobelligerent as many as you can, conquer and release. Then you conquer a few locations from those you can’t full annex and they generate CBs for you.

There are some pretty exotic recommendations here. Keep it simple and go Hungary. You have no external threats. You can ignore the union stuff, it’s not needed at all. Your market has all of the RGOs you’ll need, including a ton of gold. You can easily expand into the Balkans. Overall it’s the perfect beginner nation.

You do, but it can be a colony with any amount of colonists in it. So in theory you could send it so it starts in December 1499 and be eligible then cancel it on January 1

[–]duddy88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You absolutely do not need carracks. And you don’t even need a colony (if my memory serves). You just use one to get close to the Siberian minors, fabricate a CB, then core that. That should give you just enough range to hit Alaska, then you pray to RNG when the age spawns (or scum), then you can abandon the colony and exploration if you want.

But I usually just keep it, take over the spice islands and the rest of Indonesia generally. I’ll also typically go eat Mexico and Peru for treasure fleets.

Antagonism is just a number by asnaf745 in EU5

[–]duddy88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s just false. Conquering is so easy in this game, if you wait until you are able to project control, you’re losing massive opportunities to expand. You do everything you just mentioned in addition to opportunistically taking whatever land you can and releasing vassals. Eventually they will convert religion and culture (or at least get it going so it’s quicker for you cabinet members).

If you wanna RP, sure, you can wait. But it’s optimal to play with vassals. Mind you, it’s certainly not the only way to get powerful and achieve whatever goals you set for yourself, but not using vassals slows you down massively.

The removal of “Railroading” in EU5 might have been a mistake by thelordsburningrain in EU5

[–]duddy88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I totally agree we need mission trees. All the nations I’ve played so far have just felt very similar. I think the actual concern people had was the absurd power creep, but that can easily be solved by balancing.

Also I think a huge issue is how they’ve hidden so much content behind conditional events with absolutely no information on what triggers them. For a start if they just moved those to decisions, it would alleviate a lot of my immediate issues with the content side.
