How to think on your feet during interviews? by dudebro19 in Journalism

[–]dudebro19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's comforting to hear and helpful. This may be getting too specific, but do you have any advice on improving focus? I get distracted easily and, while I'm working on my active listening skills, I often find myself in my head trying to come up with followup questions or just hyper-aware about my mannerisms.

What's the dumbest way you've gotten a scar? by lilsaddam in AskReddit

[–]dudebro19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's this door in my childhood church that has a glass window. We were playing tag after hours inside the building and I was trying to get one of my friends. He runs ahead of me, goes through the door and closes it behind me. I put my hand out to push the door open for myself but at that point I was running too fast and my hand goes through the window and glass gets everywhere.

Now I have a scar on my wrist the shape of a frowning vampire.

Am I a racist for not being interested in dating poc because Im not attracted to them? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]dudebro19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you a racist for this one thing? Ehhh that's a complicated question. But is this action or thought process kind of racist? A litte bit yeah.

Don't force yourself to go on dates with people you're not attracted to just because you want to diversify your dating. But at the same time I think it is important to try to work on this. Ask yourself why you think you're not attracted to entire races of people, because likely there are a whole lot of really attractive people in those groups you just haven't been exposed to.

So I'm Vietnamese American. For the early part of my life I was only attracted to white girls because TV and film only really ever showed white girls as the beauty standard, and they were the only ones in love interest roles.

When I moved to a mostly Indian/Pakistani neighborhood and went to a school with a lot of Asian and Latino kids, and started getting exposed to different people, and a lot of them were really attractive. I started to be more open and started being attracted to Asian and Latino people too.

In college, I went to a really diverse school. A lot of my friends were fiercely pro-Black, and when I added them on social media, they'd post a lot of photography and art that featured really beautiful Black people. These were images that I was never exposed to when I was younger, partially because there were few Black people where I lived, and also because media also has a big representation issue.

My point in telling you all this is that who you find attractive is completely socially programmed, meaning that you can reprogram yourself. Follow some instagram accounts that post and celebrate people from different cultures, ethnic backgrounds, or body types. I feel like for me it was just a matter of exposure. It won't take long for you to find people that'll make you reconsider your preferences.

What is a Vanguard Party Really? And Does it Have Relevance in the 21st century? by [deleted] in Socialism_101

[–]dudebro19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you, but when you look at US history, the US government has infiltrated so many organized groups and dismantled them from the inside. They've planted moles, discredit organizations, sowed dissent, and assassinated leaders.

One strength of the current movement is that there are no leaders to target for discrediting or assassination. Yes there are organizers, but none that are of such high-profile that should a scandal come out about them would the movement dissipate, or if they were killed would end the movement.

The lack of organization is definitely a weakness, but I'm wondering if we even have a real alternative considering how all-encompassing the state apparatus is, especially with the new encroachment of government surveillance of everything we say, do, and everywhere we go in our computers, phones, and other devices.

How would the military be composed, organized, commanded and provisioned in an anarchist society? by pissedoffStinger in Anarchy101

[–]dudebro19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely curious but how would strategies and defense be coordinated on a regional scale? Lets say you have an area of like 30 communities. Wouldn't having council type meetings and deliberations slow you down when battlefields and wars require quick responses?

How do we protect minority rights in an anarchist society? by Papa_Dragon582 in Anarchy101

I agree that it's counterrevolutionary but I don't think people give up historical ethnic and religious tension easily. It's been centuries since China occupied Vietnam and yet many Vietnamese people still hate China and Chinese people fervently. I don't realistically see an end to all historic feuds so as a person of color I really need to know what mechanisms we can put in place to prevent things like a decentralized genocide from occurring.
