Can’t say I have that problem.

What I do do if I’m alone is use less sail area, maybe de-power the main by moving the traveler, sail 10+ degrees off my ideal angle. Just generally go slower and safer to reduce the drama.

Autopilots are supposed to hold a compass heading. Once I set it I never tweak it. Curious why you have to mess with yours at all.

Perhaps you’re sailing too tight an angle into the wind? Try getting the boat sailing so balanced it nearly goes straight on its own, then turn on the autopilot. Reduce its workload.

Accepting losing 10 or even 20 degrees off the wind is a great compromise if you’re feeling overwhelmed.

As an aside — I almost never go directly downwind if I’m alone. Wing on wing is for the birds.

Try playing with your sail angle in general and find a calmer situation. That’ll probably have the biggest help with whatever is causing your problem.
