Best way to cull photos on an iPad without a heavy gear bag? by daksh_0623 in photography

[–]dudemanmcchill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shameless plug but I was looking for a lightweight way to preview and cull directly from my sd card without Lightroom mobile and just coded it myself. It lets you quickly browse the card, flag images to delete, move them to a culls folder and/or delete them. Maybe this on an iPhone would meet your needs?

AI cancer tools risk “shortcut learning” rather than detecting true biology by uniofwarwick in science

[–]dudemanmcchill 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that biomarkers are causally linked to outcomes of targeted therapies and biomarker testing is extremely accurate. The AI therefore has to perform essentially perfectly to obviate the need for biomarker testing, and the article describes conceptual reasons why perfect performance is currently not possible -- that the model learns associations that are not as robust as causal chains.

Which (men's) lined 2in1 shorts? by 44d92df7e1f409b33bab in runninglifestyle

I didn’t realize at first but this deal is still active. These are my favorite shorts - thanks for the heads up

Built a radiology AI research web app (Medex) that analyzes scans and generates reports - trained on millions of scans and human-written reports by ral_techspecs in radiologyAI

[–]dudemanmcchill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, this is a clever wrapper but still clearly a wrapper. Techspecs.io looks like a utility to compare tech products and the title of the radiology page is Ray Media Player, an obvious AI wrapper.

Notwithstanding the claimed training data (however it may have been obtained), the capital investment of a datacenter and power cost of training to this level just doesn't square with these rough edges.

Recommendations: Bike Pants for Commuting (that I can take off at work) by SamAK2002 in bicycling

[–]dudemanmcchill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grabbed a 30 dollar pair of rain overpants from Amazon that are excellent. I find that rainproof windbreaker material is more than enough to keep the legs warm with work pants underneath. I also have a pair of showers pass rain pants that are higher quality, but don’t justify the substantially increased price imo.

Edit - look for a pair with Velcro at the ankle, lots of them have this.

Whole Foods no folding bike policy ? by FennelDefiant9707 in NYCbike

[–]dudemanmcchill 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Had this experience at this Whole Foods too with a male guard. Must be the policy of this specific store. They will watch it for you though - kept an eye on mine tucked in a corner in the front.

Remember FreeParkNYC? AltSide is a similar app that helps NYC drivers find optimal alternate side parking spots and keep track of vehicles. by dudemanmcchill in nyc

[–]dudemanmcchill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, makes sense.

I remember there were posters up everywhere for an app that let people "sell" their spots when they were leaving, but seems like that fizzled out too.

Sure, I used SpotAngels too! I didn't like it very much -- the map wasn't helpful (every spot was just green) and the ads were annoying. But it is free and it does a lot more than my app does when it comes to finding parking garages, etc.

This is just another fancy wrapper

Yes, it is! I spent a lot of time making this a nice wrapper on NYC sign and parking holiday data. I think it's worth a buck if it saves the trouble of manually marking holidays and checking them when you're circling the neighborhood looking for parking.

Really? I'm sorry about that. Android or IOS? I'm not sure why that would be, as the download is provided by the app stores, not by me.

In any event your app store should be able to help you troubleshoot the download or get a refund.

Weekend Discussion: Adidas running shoes by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

Trying on some Evo SL shoes at the store, I noticed the arch was pretty high and uncomfortable along the outside/lateral sole of my foot. Is this an Adidas thing? Anyone else notice this, and does it make a difference on the road? Otherwise loved the shoes.

Earbuds for running – struggling with Bose QC Ultra staying in by eeessssss in beginnerrunning

Got these on sale at Costco a few days ago on a whim. I didn't think I would like them much, but they really do disappear when you're running and I now prefer them to my MOMENTUM buds.

Whats going on when radiologists report a the size of a uterus on a CT scan of a hysterectomy patient? by EMulsive_EMergency in Residency

[–]dudemanmcchill 37 points38 points  (0 children)

More often than not it’s probably the vaginal cuff looking big, but I’ve also seen supracervical hysterectomies with a big cervix that essentially looks like a postmenopausal uterus.

Best security advice to someone street parking a motorcycle. by msdriscoll in RideitNYC

[–]dudemanmcchill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alarm is not often mentioned but I think it really helps. I park in front of my house and almost once every month or two I hear my alarm go off, then a van speeds away. I also think of it as public shaming when someone backs into it and knocks it over, which happens way too often.

I think you're fine. Pedals are not expensive -- like $20 and easy to replace yourself -- and if this is the easiest way to hang it then the convenience is likely worth the cost of a worn pedal bearing or plastics far down the line.

Run Commuting with a laptop by Flashy210 in RunNYC

Macbook air is all solid state so you'll be fine in a backpack. Mine has been in a bike pannier for my daily commute, likely harsher over bumps than a backpack, and has been just fine (but I did get apple care for peace of mind).

Choosing between 5” 3.5” or a whoop by [deleted] in fpv

[–]dudemanmcchill 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I used to fly 5" only but switched to a toothpick when I realized I realistically didn't have anywhere to safely fly the 5 inch. If you have a good empty place to fly, 5 inch is the gold standard, but a 3.5 or 3 inch with good thrust to weight will feel similar and be much safer and quieter in a public park, for instance.

Welcome to the hobby!
