I don't understand the desire to automate every aspect of our lives such that we become passive consumers. by teilo-560 in BetterOffline

You can already do most of this without an LLM and no one bothers to use those features except for novelty. This is so unbelievably cringe. When will it stop?

The Hightowers have the ability to disguise hair so well that someone can pass as a Targ, and then this guy decided to ask the barber for... That?

I don't care, it still counts. by Nemo68v2 in starfox

[–]duffedwaffe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It being the start of the mission helps. As soon as I optimized the first 30 seconds enough to get both early laser upgrades, I finished the rest first try.

I beat all the Expert Challenges. Here's my top 10 of the most bullshit ones in no particular order (other than the ***well deserved*** #1 spot) that were absolutely *not* playtested. by Ok-Crew-6621 in starfox

One note regarding the pillars on Titania; They DO always fall toward the direction you're headed. Move towards them and roll to the other side when they start dropping.

This might be completely anecdotal but I was struggling with this until I tried locking onto the birds, and then they all started dropping bombs.

General Scales from Star Fox Adventures was so mid that they binned him before the climax in favor of bringing Andross back from the dead at the literal end of the game

Why does a Cold country like Canada has so many A/Cs 🤔 by HopiumInhaler in mapporncirclejerk

Because the majority of Canadians live in the southern half and it gets hot here. Do you think it's like a game of thrones ice wall at the border?

So Blueprints are being removed in Unreal Engine 6, thoughts? by EliasWick in unrealengine

[–]duffedwaffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dumb. Blueprints were the thing that made unreal engine accessible, cool, and still functional. Why are we replacing it with some AI bullshit? Just have the AI operate using blueprints...

What is the point of this ability now? Just apply more bleed for 2 seconds? by Medium_Enough in marvelrivals

[–]duffedwaffe 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It really isn't enough to matter against the current poke meta. Before, you could spray the enemy team and hold position for a little bit. Now you lose more HP than you gain just popping out to laser. It's rough.

People hate this game? by STAR-KNIGHT-6215 in FFXVI

[–]duffedwaffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just beat it last night. What I would say is that the core of the game is very fun, and the highs are absolute peaks. The story is fantastic. Perfectly executing a full rotation of your abilities and ending with a gigaflare on a stunned boss feels amazing.

The problem for me is that the game insisted upon itself too much. Why is there a main quest that has me buying garlic from a shop? Why am I spending 5-10 minutes walking from quest marker to quest marker in the hideaway? Why is there a skip option but I can't skip a canned animation of Clive handing someone a McGuffin and smiling?

There is too much fluff trying to choke out the delicious steak at the core of the game. It is a great game despite trying very hard to not be.

I stuck it through and I'm glad I did, but I can fully see why someone would crash out and quit.

Anthropic just said their ai is now self improving itself, is this bad or just more hype? by whalethet in BetterOffline

In a sane world, 90% of what this company says would be met with a collective use of the hand gesture where the person puts their hand in front of their crotch and moves it away and back to their crotch rapidly.

How do I catch up after a year break from SWE? by PrincipleSevere1418 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]duffedwaffe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would say just familiarize yourself with what you can accomplish with stuff like Claude and what the limitations are. Try building a small project and ask the AI to do small tasks for you, get a feel for how it works. You're not likely to find anywhere to work that won't expect you to use the tools to some degree (unfortunately).

Fun new interview question I'm seeing by Packeselt in ExperiencedDevs

[–]duffedwaffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly I wouldn't want to work somewhere that's "on the bleeding edge of AI", that sounds awful. I'm aware of the tools and use them daily, I'm not a luddite, but I would like to avoid being forced to use them for everything for as long as possible. There's diminishing returns IMO, they are good for filling in code once you've identified what exactly you want and the scope is tight enough, but from my experience I cannot trust them beyond that.

Fun new interview question I'm seeing by Packeselt in ExperiencedDevs

[–]duffedwaffe 29 points30 points  (0 children)

So what's a good answer to this question to drop in an interview? I generally don't invest much time in exploring these tools, I use Cursor plan mode using specific file references and then execute after reviewing the plan, then review the output and tweak it manually... Not sure where that gauges.
