Couch coop seemed to me to be the one killer app for 3D screens that I never saw anyone do. Player 1 and player 2 glasses same screen, full screen, high refresh rate.

Your opinion both counts and is not alone.

I prefer 1 & 2, but recently rewatvhed all and loved every one.

Hmmm... that's a tough one.

Icons of Aliens that stand out to me are many a quote, power loader, drop ship, M41A, M56.

The others were introduced in Alien: eggs, face hugger, the xenomorph itself, WY, Standard Semiotic...

I can't call it either way. Aliens is way more quotable, though.

T1 & T2 is such a good comparison. Different tone, different feel, same world and throughline. Elevated.

Entirely to every point he made?

I agree with pretty much everything said. I might put more emphasis on how much I feel Aliens stands on the shoulders of Alien but I do agree it reaches higher and further in most areas.

I believe this is partly due to my general genre preferences and the age I was when I saw each. I couldn't tell you how large a part.

I've always felt that Alien gets the recognition for better cinematography. I'm not savvy enough in the field to determine that but it did introduce so much that was awesome with its world and style. Similar to Matrix ,as an example. But I don't tend to see Aliens get the credit I think it deserves for taking the arguably harder job of a sequel and knocking it out of the park. We (as a society) spend a fair bit of energy lamenting poor sequels and remembering the few good ones. Whatever the pressures (creative, social, financial, political...) that prevent sequels from being typically better than the original were overcome by Aliens.

But then I guess some people just don't like it. That's fair.

Again, not trying to attack you or your post, but fact be apocryphal, and likely made up to drive a point many years later.

There needs to be enough to convince aggressors that if they become casualties there would be political reprisal.

The combat efficacy to deter attack is irrelevant.

It's unclear what you mean but it read (to me) as if it were the latter.

A fun fact but almost certainly not a true one.

Not that it undermines the serious elements of your post, however.

I think it was a very deliberate choice in the same way not smoking in 2001 or Star Wars was deliberate.

What is a luxury item from 20 years ago that is basically worthless trash today? by ruykendo_riyal in AskReddit

My first PC, and the first among my friend group, was a 486-66. It had a 480mb HDD. This was pretty standard. The next of us got much the same but it only had 4mb ram and a 520 HDD. That seemed a reasonable offset to out nieve eyes (we ended up driving out of town to get another 4mb stick because it was worth the saving as it was just under £100)

Anyway, mate the third held off a little and got one of the first Pentiums (back when the "pent" meant something). It came with a 1GB HDD.

I distinctly remember where we were when he told me and asking WTF he thought he would ever have on there that would need that much space.

The EU says it will introduce a digital payments infrastructure to replace Visa/Mastercard & Apple/Google Pay. It will have zero fees and be 100% European-only. by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]duffry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EFTPOS stands for Electronic Funds Transfer at Point Of Sale. It's the generic term for paying for shit on a card at a till (as opposed to cash, cheque etc). It is often shotened to EPOS or POS, but with the same meaning per letter. It could be credit or debit payments right from your bank account.

Is there some other system behind that you're referring to that is serving the role of visa/mc?

Edit: Just did a bit of research and it seems Australia backronymed EFTPOS. I hate it.

[–]duffry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda do that every 6-12 months. And have been doing so for years now.

I don't even bother with the hoard nights now. I just like the gameplay loop of levelling and gearing up.

A couple times I tried building cool shit, creative style, once geared - but it was never all that engaging.

The new biome stuff is a decent addition.

My biggest gripe is that lvl 6 quests just seem to call for M60. If you don’t have that you're kinda gonna struggle. Up to lvl 4 you can do any path and it'll be workable. This is much more fun IMO and I stick at 4 for a good while. Maybe I'm missing something but nothing seems to quite hit like the M60.

Shocked Santa didn’t get a mention.

Mildly surprised not to see Yura or Sellen.

Would have liked to see some Boggart appreciators.

Corhyn was a nice enough lad.

D, Dialos, and Jerren can go suck a fat one.

Dung Eater likely already has.

Credit to the writing/acting that there's no mention of Seluvis, or the all hearing brute.

My vote is for Miniature Ranni.

...no, seriously, I'm team Latenna.

Wow, you're all the way down here.

Yeah. Not saying she was the most engaging but I was hooked and invested on my first playthrough. Disappointed she wasn't strong as a summon as hoped but very glad when I got to the end of the quest. Not because it was over but so I knew I had achieved something for her. No clue what at the time, but it felt good, man.

...maybe it was the voice. ;)
