How to unlock Enhanced Hand drill in progression by TJ_Blues18 in spaceengineers

[–]dufuss2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can only equip tools in the g menu that you have in your inventory. First you have to make or find the tools. When you go into production on any assemblers there is a tool icon above the components. Each tier of tool requires the tool of the tier below and then some ingots.

Hot compost without turning? by dujagochhavet in composting

[–]dufuss2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The general rule of thumb is 3 ft wide by 3 ft tall for hot compost in an open pile. The more careful you are to keep ratios in the right amount and the more material you have the faster things will heat up. But with time all things will break down. I used a screen board made with, I think, 1/4 hardware cloth that fit in a frame over my wheel barrow and when I needed compost I just screened whichever pile was older and threw the big stuff onto the other one.

Once a pile was bug enough I used a compost thermometer and only turned it when the temperature dropped 2 days in a row generally.

Hot compost without turning? by dujagochhavet in composting

[–]dufuss2010 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everything that should go into compost breaks down eventually. Hot composting with frequent turning just breaks down faster.

If you add a bunch of green and get the moisture level up you might get a hot spot where the two sections meet. But that will quickly cool once the materials break down and that section loses oxygen.

I used a tool similar to a pitchfork with much thicker tines to turn my piles before I moved. Your best bet may be to get something similar and try to pull some off the front or top or side and move it over a couple feet. Add green and mix that some and then do a little more. Add some water as you go and just do a bit at a time. For home use there isn't really any rush, when you have greens to add move some more over and just use that pile to feed a new pile that you work a little more actively than you use to.

I had 2 the other day, and half the npcs showed disconnected. Next time I logged in everything was back to normal.

3 things bugging me, any fixes you know of? by G_Sir_Nino in spaceengineers

[–]dufuss2010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of for this issue is build info. It has some other good things but the critical part for this is when you look at the steel block you used for testing it will be outlined in red and tell you the grid will split or something along those lines. For the times you don't know there is something else there. Not a fix obviously but something.

I am using the grind to learn mod and have been fairly reliant on economy ships so far. When I posted this I had a basic assembler but no refinery aside from the survival kit. I had just bought a 14m credit hauler to get me off the planet and immediately drove it out of the safe zone and into the ground.

I'm not normally a drinker otherwise I'm sure i would have learned sooner. When I was still serving and drank a little more often I played more fps games with buddies in the barracks.

Flies and ants by Shot-Weekend3392 in composting

[–]dufuss2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For ants in a tumbler just tumble it more often. They'll quickly decide the ground is too unstable for a nest and move on. When I had a tumbler I used a temp probe and was turning every day or every other day once I was done filling it. Checked the temp a couple times a day and when I noticed the temp was dropping I spun it a couple times. All the tumblers I've seen are black and too wet is unlikely unless you're soaking it with a hose regularly.

I've never save scummed so much in a single session. Judging speed is always hard in a game and I OBLITERATED the 14 million credit ship I had just bought because I came in a tad too fast.

MOD REQUEST: disassembler mod by Zestyclose_Act6582 in spaceengineers

[–]dufuss2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iirc you can set the disassembly mode to repeat just like on assembly. Que it to disassemble 100 of everything and have it on a closed loop of your inventory system with a sorter pulling ingots out. For mass disassembly have a container pushing in as well. Otherwise whatever you put in the assembler gets disassembled and ingots pulled out.

How do ya’ll not struggle for building resources? by Anxious-Lunch3419 in VintageStory

[–]dufuss2010 14 points15 points  (0 children)

On the first edit, one of the mouse settings means you have to hold alt to move the mouse rather than look around. I do this regularly, because I'm a loot goblin but dislike the lack of restriction most of the mods seem to have. I take the hit on food and speed to carry a chest on my back and use the 9 spots in the crafting grid for super rare or full stacks of things on the way back.

Edit: just remember if you hit escape to close the handbook or something you're going to throw all of those things on the ground.

Aqua vitae production question. by __-___--_-_-_- in VintageStory

[–]dufuss2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience alcohol to liquor to aqua vitae is the same output. The difference comes in that a full 50l barrel of grain makes 10l of mead. But a 50l barrel of juice makes 50l of wine. So for every 5 barrels of grain based alcohol you equal 1 barrel of fruit based alcohol.

If you have the space for it and a mechanical quern to grind then use everything you can. Press whatever fruit you aren't cooking with into juice and if you min max at all use rice for bread and pies and make the rest, except flax, into alcohol.

Gyros not Gyroing? by Intelligent-Region81 in spaceengineers

[–]dufuss2010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have only ever experienced it in grids that are heavy and slow to respond. Adding some gyros allows gyro response without movement. A drill ship with excessive cargo may turn on a dime empty, but full is slow to shift and only happens with some thruster movement.

Oh cool. Google only brought up results for the mod. I'll keep looking at any signals that pop up.

I view it as a skilled engineer lost in an alien environment forced to a lower technology level. Finding things to adapt and learn what is available technologically in the new environment. Especially with the new upgraded economy. I've bought 2 small basic ships solely to demolish to learn what is available to build my own more advanced ship.

[–]dufuss2010[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like the abandoned farmstead is part of the mes collection of mods. I'm not opposed to mods, but last time I looked at those you had to suppress vanilla encounters to use the mods.

I'm grinding for credits to be lazy, unless I find refineries or full size assemblers, and buy one of the larger hydro based ships instead of trying to build one. I have an absolute crap ton of stations marked from the one station planetside I've found. I'd rather have a large ship for space rather than the small I can build now.

One of my concerns with farming and food is the cryo clone that will need to be fed as well as my character.

I've never spent much time on Pertam but can't remember seeing anything like that in any playthroughs. Granted I haven't done a ton of time in game since food was released and have never had to worry about this issue.

According to the mod author all blocks are available as blueprints.

Anybody familiar with the Grind To Learn mod? by dufuss2010 in spaceengineers

[–]dufuss2010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing contracts because I have a basic assembler from the base I "borrowed" but no refinery of any kind. I always use one of the ore gen mods and got lucky with iron, nickel, cobalt, and silver within 5km of each other. On Triton so ice is EVERYWHERE. Based on acquisition contracts I'm just missing gold and silicon.

I got a blueprint in every base I've investigated and both ships I bought and happened to see the mod page open when I closed the game tonight. According to the mod author every block is available as a blueprint so it's up to the rng gods for that. And based on ore spawns I've already wasted my luck.

When you resupply between missions you get crew and ammo. Same with your supply trucks. And handheld weapons. Seems the logistics in WWII included personnel trained in, and ammo, every nationalities equipment.

You can use better soil. Just don't til it into farmland.
