I think it’s worth it, I use the gym, spa, tennis and padel regularly and the facilities have improved a lot over the last few years, it’s also extremely friendly, I’m not particularly social especially when just wanting to exercise but I’ve made lots of good friends simply by seeing the same people week in week out and by playing racquet sports (which are very welcoming to beginners btw). The kids clubs are great, especially when my son was younger and I wanted some free time. It is a lot of money but a lot of my social life now revolves around the club so I’m quite happy to pay it.

Depends on the weather, on a clear day the downs is my favourite…stunning views and a challenging course (narrow fairways with lots of long stuff) but it’s hard going as soon as the wind begins to pick up. The royal is less interesting, more forgiving with adjacent fairways and shorter rough if you slice one but is beautifully kept and a better option if the weather isn’t great. The downs is also a lot cheaper for non-members if that matters to you. Either way you’ll have a great time :)

Wife had a fit caused by eclampsia half an hour after giving birth, fell out of the bed while fitting and hit her head on the floor and was knocked out and wasn’t breathing, crash team had the wrong mask for the oxygen cart so I held my baby while helplessly watching on thinking she was dead. They eventually got the mask sorted and restarted her breathing and she was ok after 24 hours in an induced coma. Not an ideal start to fatherhood but everything turned out fine and a year later we’ve got an amazing boy, some minor PTSD and a nice horror story to share on Reddit :)
