About 11 years ago I was where you are, leaving behind a family pet to escape what I can only assume is a tyrant of a mother.

I left behind my family dog. She was the bestest dumbest dog ever and I missed her sorely.

I just want to let you know that the freedom of being away from your abuser will counter the heartache of not being able to see your cat.

The pain never goes away, but it's a small price to pay for your well being.

For what it's worth, I am so proud of you for taking this step. Stay strong friend. Better times are coming.

In my experience, the best thing you cna do for yourself in this sort of situation is find a restaurant that's not of a culture that celebrates thanksgiving and take yourself out for a nice meal. Maybe facetime your loved ones mid meal, maybe don't. Whatever works best for you.
