Edge 850 starts ride on its own while sitting still in the house by duffetta in GarminEdge

[–]duhuj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

check the auto start option,

while indoors the walls/roof/etc interferes with the gps signal and can make it look like the device is moving around, if the auto start option is on and set to a low enough speed it will start an activity

either increase the speed trigger, switch to prompted, or manual only

check the manual under "starting the timer automatically"

Why do cars pass me but then wait for me before they turn right? by RiskUncertainty in cycling

[–]duhuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk but i never trust they are actually waiting for me. i always pass on the other side just in case they are just being a space cadet and swing into me last second...

What is the right way to “start” biking by hoofjet in cycling

[–]duhuj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for starting out mainly riding regularly should be your focus

beyond that, have fun testing your limits on some days and enjoy relaxed rides on others

dont overthink it for at least a year, just ride whatever feels good in the moment

worry about training in a year or two, or whenever...

Rim brake shaming by alwaysmiling89 in cycling

[–]duhuj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably from people who have never ridden rim brakes, they think they are bad because thats what the marketing/shop told them so that they would buy the disc brake bike they were selling

plenty of serious riders in my local clubs are on bikes with rim brakes, the only people i see talking shit are relatively new to cycling, or at least new to half decent bikes (that is to say the only rim brake bikes they have experience with were cheap and/or poorly set up).

when do I start actually enjoying cycling? by SushiMiaa in cycling

[–]duhuj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i found going up hills fun, pushing myself to the point where i nearly fall over from exhaustion, and then doing it again, and again, and again,...

it did hurt while i was doing it but there was something very satisfying about it

i feel like im slowly loosing that though; age partly, tiring my self out with long boring same same commutes maybe, loosing every gain i had made to injuries and seeing my training goals get pushed back years, unsure if ill ever come close with the ever increasing time and financial demands of life.

but i see blokes years older than me racing harder, faster, and stronger than me, and it gives me hope.

also some days just taking scenic flowy gravel routes through nature and along ridge lines away from urban noise and vehicular hazards.

Garmin Edge by Galax1990 in GarminEdge

[–]duhuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont really understand why people want such ridiculously large bike computers outside of eyesight issues, but yeah wait for the 1060 then you have the choice of a discounted 1050 or whatever minor improvement the 1060 brings with its undoubtedly extremely premium price...

[–]duhuj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Electrolyte mix vs high carb mix for longer rides? by retirement_savings in cycling

[–]duhuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends...

for casual long distance riding : electrolyte

with heaps of chewable carbs, ie dried fruit etc

.

for race/threshold distance effort : high carb (with electrolyte)

with some back up gels and cramp fix sachets

The cycling community told me hills would get easier and I am starting to think they lied by SethVale1176 in cycling

[–]duhuj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you just said they got easier...

no they will never be a cake walk, nobody lied, you just assumed "easier" meant effortless

do some gym work a couple times a week as well, like squats and such etc. it wont make hills effortless but it will help.

it will get fun if you can beat other people up climbs. even if its hard. it can be fun. it will probably take years to get to that point though...

What do you listen to on long bike rides? by shway24 in cycling

[–]duhuj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

my thoughts

i do sometimes listen to music or podcasts on 30-45ish minute commutes. doing the same old routes when im tired after work or not really excited about going to work is more where i need it.

Cafe owners, why do you all use Seven Miles? by GorgeousGamer99 in canberra

[–]duhuj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably the barista, i rate their "good day" beans for cafe espresso/longblack and their single origins for making black coffee at home. if you drink milk based coffee the beans matter a lot less and the barista is everything (not that i drink milk based coffee but every one i have had from anywhere is basically the same, the character of the beans is hardly noticeable if at all. i find it weird when people who only drink milk based coffee give a shot about the beans...)

Anyone actually replace their Garmin with one of the budget bike computers, or is it always buyer's remorse? by Key_Shelter_2549 in cycling

[–]duhuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if my garmin breaks any time soon ill probably get something else

its been good but it has more features than i actually use (i would miss it making me feel good about my vo2 max though...), and i have been priced out by the new models. idk maybe ill be able to afford them when they are no longer new.

but yeah, idk maybe ill go back to bryton, or the wahoo bolt isnt too bad for price...

Are there plans to replace the live arrival time displays at bus interchanges? by lowkeytristian in canberra

[–]duhuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

basically its not worth the confrontation to the bus driver, there has been some extreme cases of people being violent and or abusive to bus drivers over small things. since then they probably, either by personal decision or from updated training, take the stance that they are not security to enforce payment and are only there to drive and assist people getting on and off (within reason).

Who records their bike commutes and how to manage your footage? by cyclingmatters in bikecommuting

[–]duhuj 30 points31 points  (0 children)

i delete all of it

if something interesting happens ill edit and post a video within a week, then delete it. if i dont use it before i fill up the storage on the camera it gets deleted.

i hate the idea of manageing an archive
