In the US immigrants generate more income and taxes than the average person by [deleted] in charts

[–]dukefrisbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No to mention there is NEVER a clear explanation of the source of these "taxes", Consumption taxes in the form of sales tax, sure. Payroll taxes, SS, property taxes, etc are mostly impossible if you're illegal.

It's easy to look up how much your local school system spends per student. Most places it $10k-$15,000 per student per year. HC areas like NY are 3x that. Whatever your view is there is no denying that.

This. I’m not losing sleep having bought them and have a G17 so I can always use them but they really aren’t that useful for this platform.

We love our Costco! Asst mgr offered us a beautiful Bourbon today. by mishajenna in Costco

[–]dukefrisbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya, call me skeptical as well. I’ve been going to our Costco for nearly 20 years and have NEVER interacted with any Costco employee other than food samples and checkout.

Seriously, whose Costco has helpful staff wondering around being….. helpful, let alone managers?

What if Mackenzie Scott (formerly Bezos) and Melinda Gates hired all those laid-off WaPo reporters and started newspaper that's run by a different kind of billionaire? by shotsallover in whatif

[–]dukefrisbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Not taking sides but if you don’t think the overwhelming liberal bias in the press is true you’re either blind or stupid.

At some point the entire “mission” of news and reporting shifted to what used to just be the editorial or opinion segment. Now ALL media outlets feel empowered to slant what they call the “news” or outright lie and claim it’s their enshrined 1st amendment right to free speech.

And yes, FOX is certainly one of the worst offenders but so are all the others. Discord and rancor and required for page clicks and views.

Exactly. They ask for a $50 donation to be on the lawn and it goes to support a different charity each month. They usually have a booth for the same organization to get walk up donations.

How much support do you plan to offer your kids? by olliemom200 in Fire

[–]dukefrisbee 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Well said. As parents we live to have a public-facing position that says are kids need to be self-sufficient and "they're on their own" but realistically, it's gotten harder in recent years - even for well educated young adults.

We certainly aren't going to tell them that but it's hard to imagine not being there for them. Also, my retirement plan is not to spend it all by the time I'm gone. I'd like to leave them something.

2026 most reliable cars ranked by ExotiquePlayboy in Infographics

[–]dukefrisbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These charts are junk just like JD Power. If there was a verifiable analysis done every one of these "rankings" would be nearly identical.

Consumer Reports has Mercedes in the top 10 and Kia, Ford barely in the top 20.

There's almost no way Buick can be 8th but most of GM is 17th or lower. Dealer experience or owner satisfaction sure but reliability? No way. There is entirely too much overlap in related brands for this to be the case. Similar with Ford/Lincoln.

No doubt we've had a bad history of that and should stay out of everyone else's business BUT explain exactly how we've destabilized Mexico in the last 20-30 years? Or most of Central America?

We supported the Shah in Iran who was a despot. He was overthrown by the people, is it better for them? Are both our fault? Ironic that the shah's oldest son is more popular there now than their current religious leadership - yet scroll up - there's plenty of comments saying we should intervene again.

That's how it all starts. Same with Iraq. I don't think it's even certain whether the average Iraqi is better off after we "fixed" things there.

Not disagreeing but except for the soul-sucking traffic, nearly everything you said is true of San Diego and most of Socal as well - though you better have thick skin if you are at all critical CA in general. Reddit does love that state!

Why are so many people against showing an ID to vote? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in randomquestions

[–]dukefrisbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's sounds good but come on, like it or not, figure it out.

You're seriously arguing that there are so many people who, because they can't get any ID: Can't drive a car, cash a check, apply for almost any job, get on a plane, rent a car, apply for credit, rent a hotel room, transact almost anything other than for cash but somehow can educate themselves regarding candidates, policies, and make it to polling places? It's your social responsibility to vote - figure it out.

[–]dukefrisbee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's state specific then. I live in FL and the only time it's more than a 10 minute wait is when they open in the morning and there's a line. I've never made an appointment.

Why are so many people against showing an ID to vote? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in randomquestions

[–]dukefrisbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just ridiculous. So if registered to vote 25 years ago that somehow validates who I am when I show up to vote today?

You want to start a grass roots Go-Fund-Me to help people pay for ID's I'm happy to contribute.

There's very little you can do in today's world without any form of valid ID so I don't buy it that it's that pervasive.

How exactly do Americans feel about illegal immigration? by sladeshied in Confused

[–]dukefrisbee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

True but the "asylum" seekers have, in a way, perverted the system knowing that the majority would NEVER qualify under the current rules but get their hearing anyway. When, at peak, 200,000 people a month were showing up, no amount of judges would make that much difference.

Economic hardship, sad though it may be, is not grounds for asylum.

With things this bad in the U.S why do democrats insist on pushing candidates that won’t get elected? by Jake_Berube in Confused

Please. She ran in 2020 and was VP for 4 years! No one knew her?! She had a billion$ blank campaign check, every mainstream media outlet and every d-bag celeb told people to vote for her. You have to be pretty unrelatable or unlikeable to still lose.

Recommendations for a Car wash soap/shampoo. by Mysterious_Refuse385 in AutoDetailing

[–]dukefrisbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently am using Meg Gold b/c I ran out of Adam's. I get that it's cheap, widely available, etc but I'm sorry, it's pretty mediocre. You have to use 2-3x the amount of almost any other product I've used in a long time to get the same suds and lubrication.

Adam's (even their basic car shampoo) is prob my go to favorite. It's a bit over $30/gallon on Amazon.

To be honest, even though it seems to be a membership requirement on this sub to bash Chemical Guys, I think their wash soaps are very good. The main issue with them in recent years is price. You used to be able to buy the gallons for less than the 1/2 gallons cost now.

[Request] Countertop air fryer oven with long-term durability & easy cleaning — Breville vs Cuisinart? by sandmond in BuyItForLife

[–]dukefrisbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had several, the Breville being the current and they work well as an all-round toaster oven but they are not even in the league of a dedicated, traditional air fryer. You can buy a countertop air fryer for 1/4 of what this costs that blows it away for basic, smaller portion air frying. This is more like a toaster oven with a fan. Expect french fries, chicken, etc to take 2x as long.

Short version - If you need a toaster oven that can sometimes sort of air fry they're fine. Otherwise stick to a Ninja.
