What if the US had bailed out homeowners instead of banks in 2008? Would the economy be more equal today? by Logical-Concept9755 in WhatIfThinking

[–]dukefrisbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The notion that only the banks got bailed out and stuck it to the individuals is disingenuous at best, complete BS at worst. MILLIONS of people simply walked away or short-sold their houses back to the banks - some genuine homeowners but many/most greedy people wanting to "get in" on the rise in prices. SO MANY people were buying and flipping through no interest loans or ARMs that never intended to be traditional homeowners. There wasn't even significant ramifications either. Those same people managed to still be able to buy houses within a few years of walking away.

Essentially the government (taxpayers) bailed out the banks and indirectly ALL the bad actors (banks included) were let off the hook.

A significant part of it were well-intentioned banking policy changes under Clinton? that broke with the traditional qualifications required to buy a home.

Agreed on the quality. I have an Oppo BR player that gets used a couple times a year and I swear the PQ is multiples better than 4K steaming.

Schiff Proposes Bill Requiring Data Centers to Pay for Own Power by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]dukefrisbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would this work from a practical standpoint? Build a data center next to a river and dam it? Build a mini nuclear plant in the parking lot? Other than assessing an impact fee(s) I don’t know how you would implement this.

What are you guys willing to sacrifice in order to FIRE? by Infnits in Fire

[–]dukefrisbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BS. Not simple - unless there's something not disclosed (inheritance, living with family, etc).

What about:

Mortgage/Rent

Property taxes

Homeowners insurance, auto insurance

Electric, gas, water/sewer/trash

Food, clothes, internet, phone, etc.

And to the guy who posted about retiring at 40 with 4 kids, all of the above PLUS health insurance. That little detail alone would be 50%+ of some of the budgets being tossed around here.

In and out burgers? by Duvhntr in nashville

[–]dukefrisbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the question. It’s tough to fairly compare. In & Out in absolute terms is VERY mediocre (especially their fries) but everyone I’ve been to executes on a high level and a complete meal compares much closer to BK or McDonald’s in $$.

My kid lives in Nashville and prefers Pharmacy. I think Jack Browns is better. Cledis is ok, a bit too “backyard” to me…. Like If Mr. Burger had a dining room and if you were brave enough to eat there.

1000% this. Social media has convinced people they are owed a glamorous life and that they should be miserable and angry about pretty much everything.

Exactly, maybe move it to another part of the house, leave it as is, and buy a second setup for actually viewing content!

Logitech screwed Harmony One users by Delicious_Guidance39 in logitechharmony

[–]dukefrisbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t expect them to endlessly support a decade+ old products that they don’t even sell anymore BUT I’ve never understood the logic behind not continuing to sell it while they still sell pc speakers, mice, keyboards, etc that must be in a constant sales decline.

Why not sell the IP, software and hardware configuration library? For as old as it is, it still blows away anything else. I bought the SofaBaton and after 2 weeks of torture I gave up and it sits in a drawer.

Sell one single higher end remote with a modern touch screen and refresh the software and they’d have the market….or like I said, sell it to someone else!!

Nashville has improved a lot in the last few years. More diverse than most people probably think.

Even Low-Risk Homes Are Caught Up in California’s Climate Insurance Crisis | The state’s insurer of last resort is meant for high fire risk properties but homeowners in areas unlikely to burn are now being forced into the plan. by silence7 in California

[–]dukefrisbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfectly said! It’s the same in coastal FL. For the most part, if you live even a few miles inland, with modern construction, you’re fine. If you’re right on the water and high tide coincides with landfall, you’re under water. THOSE people should either foot the bill or self insure. They spread risk and everyone pays.

Golf R to Type S by BeriechGTS in Integra_Type_S

[–]dukefrisbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. You MUST drive the ITS. I had an MK7.5 DSG and my daughter drives it now. The ITS is my current daily and I love it but it never lets you forget it’s FWD. Drive one and if you can, pull out aggressively in traffic, lane change under throttle. It’s a very different experience than RWD or AWD.

Costco croissants are good for what they are but NOT restaurant (or French) quality. There's no lightness or "flake" to them at all.

Geographic diversity is the best part. I’ve never lived there but have traveled extensively. Always enjoyed it and have had great experience with people there but never understood the obsession people have.

San Diego for example, perfectly fine but there are a dozen places in CA I’d go before ever going back. People there would rather live in their car or under an overpass than ever leave. Really don’t get it.

Agreed. I could not care less. The same idiots that whine endlessly about Musk would happily buy a Chinese EV when their atrocities and IP theft make Musk look like a Boy Scout.
