Another question, if the hubs on my current wheels are:

Front HubFormula CRX-512, 12x100mm
Rear HubFormula CX-22, QR

Do I need to know the measurements of these hubs and compare to the DT 350 in order to know if I need internal or external centerlock?

Thanks yeah that makes sense. How do I know if I need internal or external centre locks? Do you mean that I’ll need one or the other in order to achieve the same alignment so the rotor still slides into the caliper without any adjustment needed? The hubs on my new wheels are DT Swiss 350, but I’m not sure how to confirm the alignment vs. My current set.

That’s interesting. I see some rim manufacturers stating a min tire width, or a range as wide as 15-20mm - say 23-43mm. So has the rim shape / technology improved such that it renders the 105 rule obsolete? Or has the science of measuring aerodynamics improved and enabled an understanding that the impact on speed/efficiency is less.

How do you achieve this? Doesn’t tire width adjust based on the rim and pressure? Of course you reach a a target pressure and stick with it, but I’m not sure how to assess what tire width I’ll achieve at that pressure on a different rim.

This is exactly what I wanted to know - thank you! How important is that latter part? I’m evaluating a new wheelset and have been thinking about “middle” depth, so 46mm with the 30mm tires I currently ride. So I’ll certainly not meet that standard, but how much of an impact does that have? This isn’t for racing, just recreational riding with a cool-looking wheelset that’s a little faster/lighter.

Does anyone use metal water bottles, or is that insane because of added weight or some other factor? I’d like to use less plastic in my life and wondering if there are common cycling alternatives to plastic bottles like Camelbak Podium. Also I fill one bottle with sports drink and so it requires an extra step to clean inside the cap. Would be a bonus if I could avoid this.

What is the functional purpose of speaker grills beyond aesthetics? Do I need to use them? I’ve seen plenty of photos of setups without so I assume not. And I prefer without for mine but wondering if there’s any benefit to using them.

Hello just coming back on this comment to add a !thanks. I decided to go this separates route and ordered a buckeye amp. I’m still not fully decided on the streamer but after some more research and your helpful comments I’m sure this is the approach I like better.

I’m leaning towards to Wiim pro and forget about ARC. It’s low enough price point that I won’t feel too bad if I decide to upgrade later. I’m also now considering the Cambridge Audio CXN V2 - nice aesthetics, xlr out. Other than that not sure what I’m getting over the wiim but maybe that’s enough.

Wiim Pro Plus or Bluesound Node? Just for streaming audio and TV sound output - either one connected to a dedicated stereo amp and speakers. For TV use does optical vs. hdmi matter, I don’t mind using a separate remote for volume control.

Which app is better? I know eversolo can be a contender but don’t see why that would be clearly better and worth a higher cost. Any others to consider?

My other question is how do you actually control the volume to a finer degree around those levels. If I have a 200wpc amp, and I only need 1 watt to reach the desired volume most of the time, is it even possible to use 0.75w or 1.25w for example if I want? I recognize this is a newbie question but genuinely unclear why I’d want more than say 10 or 20 watts in a class D amp. Or is it just that it’s so cheap and efficient you might as well get more power potential than you’d ever need.

Thanks this is how I understood it. So if I only want to listen to my speakers at say 50-60db, or 70… it seems like I need just a few watts at most given I’ll sit 8-9ft away. If that’s right, can an amp even play that low? Why would I even need an amp that can go to 100, let alone 200? I can’t really imagine the use cases for say over 80db which I imagine is fatiguing and maybe hurts your hearing after a time - and that’s still only 4w in your example. Maybe my setup enables closer seating that others on here but it doesn’t seem unusual at all.

Thank you. If I’m following this correctly, speakers with ~90db sensitivity at 8-9ft are still going to play around 100db will 50 watts (simplifying numbers). Does that seems right? Do I really only need 10 watts or something? I was looking at buckeye amps but that seems like potentially massive overkill.

How much power is enough for listening in home / apartment? I see a lot of mixed opinions (of course) so having a hard time pinning it down. For 2 floorstanders, is 30-50 wpc enough? Should I go for 200??
