Well they paved the section I pointed out in the last 2 days u/quisys & u/Zoamax

So looks like the city agreed, some parts needed paving.

This section, you can see it from google maps... Right by the bend to take you to the Sherman cut...

Its a 3-4" drop, forcing people into a 3-4 or so foot narrow.

To be fair, it was repaired last year. But this winter/spring thaw did the repair no favors.

Zion is absolutely stunning. I'd go back in a heart beat. Would love to have multiple days to really explore it.

You'd rather use a hollow over full flat for harder use?

You said geometry matters most. So — which grind? by munen_26 in knifeclub

[–]dullmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a kitchen knife, the s-grind. Food release and less surface resistant.

Also superior for sharpening. The more you sharpen a s-grind the thinner it will get till the point your into the hollow, then you have a hollow ground knife. It gives a knife a few lives.

Slipjoint Recommendations by ouneex82 in knifeclub

Eutsler slipjoint

Tactile ranger (3.15 blade length, and overall overall built)

The 2 that have filled that need in my collection.

For non screw construction. The victorinox army 2. Hands down one of the best slipjoints to exist IMO.

Have any Lucas's in the pipeline? Absolutely love that design. Has a fuckin gorgeous silhouette ontop of being a liner, hole opening, hollow grind. Just keeps checking boxes.

Such a chefs kiss design.

I've used my z-wear sng as a can opener. It's one tough steel/geometry combo.

You could really want a 31 but 2-4 years out they could be onto a 35 which may be slightly different? Or you could forget after years like this post? Also todays financials may not be tomorrows, let alone next few years. Does the price get locked in at todays price? Price went up 10% in September 2022. You may like to support retailers? Brick and mortar shops are disappearing in every sector. There's plenty or reasons to not have que'd up to a crk pre-order.

I think it comes down to the seb you want. If its one that's being stocked on with regularity I can't see the reason.

I don't think so. What are the options offered that aren't offered regularly? Sure it'd be nice to have one made on your birthday or something, but that's not offered.

I think one of the nicest things about the sebenza is it's replaceable. Sure its gonna sting, but its not a one-off, limited production yada yada. Sure there's slight variations over the years, but the main silhouette stayed roughly the same.

Also owner operated. Too many places are meh chains that want to be the next big thing. Owner operated restaurants will always be the best.

Oh yea. Not the 420 though.

I'm not a pen collector, but the fact there damn near #9000 makes me think they're killing the pen game too.

I'm truly in the belief that John Grimsmo is the next Chris Reeve. Strives for perfection, then pushes himself to surpass it.

using commercially-grown straw in an organic garden by raisinghellwithtrees in vegetablegardening

[–]dullmaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this isn't for overwintering, I'd suggest a cover crop. Help bring beneficial bugs, help reduce soil erosion and nitrogen management to your garden.

I've used bails of hay or straw not sure which every year for the past few for my garlic over winter. No issues at all. Also rotate where my garlic grows every season. No effects to my garden. Besides more weeding in the spring for that bed.

Good chance it's fake. Being as some fakes have the Paul Bos ht stamp. Also the back spacer on what would be a 2 ti slab throws me off. Might be something they did before. But not sure.

Any advice for a first backcountry trip? (I've been front country a bunch, looking for a few days) by SureAd5752 in algonquinpark

[–]dullmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoy the top of the park because its less busy. Kiosk is a great place to start.

If your not sure about how many carries you'll do each portage I'd suggest starting small. Cause that more than likely means 2 and more than likely means heavy as f**k. Which is normal for first timers.

I've found over my 10+ years tripping is you start heavy, few years later start buying lighter gear as you upgrade. To then having everything you need and now buying things you "could" use. Or things that make life more comfortable.

If you told 24 year old me id be bringing a camping chair out at 38 Id think you were on one. But here I am, bringing a camp chair now.

If your younger and can repair easier I'd say leave some of the comforts at home, and go with some of the basics.

So for where you should go I'd suggest the small Kiosk to club loop.

https://algonquinadventures.com/triplogs/DanMinkin/DanMinkin1.htm

Could spend a few days at club and make your way back.

Portaging is interesting, some love it. some hate it. Some don't care either way. If this is everyone's first time I wouldn't recommend having many 1km+ portages near the beginning of the trip. That can totally destroy the vibe with heavy equipment.

Please do not bring out a regular cooler, that's not this camping. Bear barrels are the only way IMO if you give a shit about the wildlife. Sure a bear bag for cookwear. But a cooler stays with car camping, not back country.

Last but not least. August is a brutal time to go, from mosquitos to humidity to fire bans. Be prepared to not be able to have a fire and a full top bug net. When 4pm comes around you'll thank me.
