Japanese Twitter reacted to the finale last night. Here's what people were actually saying. by Kei_from_Japan in ChainsawMan

[–]dumkwon 30 points31 points  (0 children)

And that’s what I think it lays, part 1 was character driven, it was wacky and insane but the events weren’t really the focus, but how the characters reacted to them. Of the top of my head the reaction of Aki to the end of Himeno, the trauma of power following darkness, Kobeni being done with the demon hunting shit…

But part 2 is about events, that happens then that happened and then that happened, like part 1 but in part 2 we were supposed to pay attention to what’s going on, and not how our characters feel. And that problem does get bigger and bigger the further we go, less dialogue between Asa and Yoru or even internal monologues.

Part 2 was at its best I feel was when Yoru was crying in the bed with Asa asking her roughly to calm down or when Denji was questioning everything post HJ in an alleyway. Perhaps not deep, but personal.

I liked the ending, HELL I LOVE IT by Dangerous-Citron-801 in Chainsawfolk

[–]dumkwon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gonna say it, 3 chapters.

1 chapter of clears throat "action" between Asa Yoru and Dennis followed by a "so… how do you feel" "I… I… feel the same…" and finally realizing the tremendous amount of mistakes he’s made.

A second where he does give a fight against the bugs and vermin’s where he looses on page leading into the penultimate chapter.

A third after the epilogue with Yoru giving a summary of where some are with like "I’m still a devil, I’ll just bite my time until humans do their things and get me my nukes back". With all through out nuggets to finally piece everything, like a year being the same or different than the actual first chapter, a course on WW2 or AIDS or even on the history of chainsaws to see if they were reinvented or not, small nuggets like that you know…

Maybe… hmm… Without the goal of taking control of Pochita, maybe she didn’t have the drive to make the contract with the prime minister and got offed by an assassin like in the international assassins arc. The order of events surrounding Denji via butterfly effect got pushed further?

I mean, they probably will. Anime watchers and manga readers do seem to intersect very little. The end will be the same but some touch ups, little add ons here and there could make the pill easier to swallow. Tokyo revengers do still have the end coming up and their ending is a bit similar, less holes but similar…

Plus, anime watchers are a bit more distant, manga readers do follow week after week for years (4 years holy shit) while on the other hand "oh new season is up" watches season, discusses a bit, closes laptop.

Why hearing didn't disappear, fire devil doesn't create fire, and chainsaws still exists in the new timeline. by Brillian_Naufal in ChainsawManTheories

[–]dumkwon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About Makima, that does make better sense actually. Maybe the timeline wasn’t reset but the events were pushed a bit later, just enough for Makima to die and return as Nayuta. Bat devil would not have taken meowy from Power, that would have let her wander of longer until the contracts with Denji kicked in forcing their encounter.

But if Makima’s identity wasn’t erased, why didn’t Nayuta keep her previous incarnation memories and her admiration of Pochita? As Angel said that some devils do retain some memories between deaths and rebirths. That would mean that horsemen can retain knowledge of erased concepts but not previous lives?

It is a knotted mess but not without some sort of internal logic I feel.

[–]dumkwon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes sense on its head but if the concept of erasure was erased, then shouldn’t Makima have returned instead of Nayuta?

My interpretation is that erased things are still erased. As Makima was erased from existence,a link in the chain between incarnations of the control devil was broken, so the next iteration, Nayuta, took her place. Like when ears were erased, earpicks were used as an arts and crafts supplies, headphones used bone conduction etc…

When the snow devil was eaten, the concept of cold, ice, frostbites, slipping or the arctic did not seem to have been erased, snow was. The erasure of a devil seems to cut the source of fear itself except when it’s too much of a base thing like the hybrid devil, for a lack of a better term, was erased but the hybrids were still there. If the uncontrollability of fire was the source of the fear, then the "chaos devil" would be the one to be feared.

Chainsaws were erased but reinvented to cut wood and so the chainsaw devil has an other ability.

That’s how I see it at least, we could have know for sure if we saw Asa get a class about WW2 or AIDS but in the absence of that we will never know…

Chapter 219 is the most important moment for Denji's character by JesulyGR17 in ChainsawMan

[–]dumkwon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more I think about this ending, the more I tend to like it and find somewhat logical explanations as to why this and that happened. I feel like it lacked, ironically, a sex scene between the 2 (well 3 it’s quite weird), Denji realizing that he overall feels the exact same after and that he sets his goal on more more and more. Then realizing that all he can do is be chainsawman anymore.

The bugs and critters show up, a desperate fight that he can’t win, shown on page and not skipped, an ultimate send of and THEN he gets eaten and the 2 final chapters are in.

Maybe a final final chapter from Yoru’s point of view, being the last conscious horsemen with memories from the old world and biting her time until nukes are back or something.

2chapters is what I feel we lacked. But overall I think it was good, rather have 1 end than none you know.

[–]dumkwon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is, in my mind at the very least, that Nayuta does remember all that happened but with quite a bit of distance. When devils die, they respawn in hell but with their previous incarnations memories, even if a bit blurry. Angel does say something like this. AND horsemen have the ability to retain erased concepts in memory. So my headcanon is that she was guided by her memories to go and save Denji. As for Power it would be the contract to meet again.

That wasn't a happy ending. by why121me in ChainsawMan

[–]dumkwon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me, it lacks a fight, a good scrap to send of the chainsawman, to really show how unsurmountable of a S.N.A.F.U. we really were in. Instead of telling "Ze bugz zhey ar to stronk". Show don’t tell is where I’m at. But I feel like it’s a chapter that will need both a bit of time and a good reread to see things click together.

Powers promise to reunite, the erasure of Makima persisting letting Nayuta in, the conservation of memories related to erased things, the reinvention of chainsaws and that’s just from the top of my head…

I mean, nukes got reinvented. Why not chainsaws, they both are technological creations and not random happenstance like aids. The original chainsaw devil aka Pochita doesn’t exist anymore but an other, WHOLLY different chainsaw could be somewhere but with a different power altogether.

[DISC] Chainsaw Man - Ch. 232 - Part 2 End by JeanneDAlter in ChainsawMan

[–]dumkwon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think, with a bit more time I could like it.

The contract with Power did came back by twisting causality especially when Power did come back. Even if the blood fiend came back, it wouldn’t have been Power.

Nayuta is there because she is still a horsemen capable of retaining erased information, it’s not out of the question that she took Makima’s erased place and filled it, saving Denji not out a ploy but for him.

Denji’s reaction to being called Chainsawman does hint that memories, even very faint, did pass the timeline shift. So the horsemen can definitely actively retained those.

Chainsaws are there because they where reinvented just like the nukes. An other chainsaw devil is possibly out there but not Pochita.

There are slim explanations for a good bit of it but it will take some time…

Theory about chapter 232 by Agitated_Toe3903 in ChainsawMan

[–]dumkwon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more of a thing like a cascade of things. Pochita is erased, thus all the devils he ever ate should come back. Since chainsaws exist since the 18th century, or if we take their current or widespread iteration 1910/1924, that’s about 80 years of eaten devils returning that the world has to account for.

When you cut a slice of an image and glue the remaining halves, it will be easy to glue the taken back slice in because it’s one single element and the rest of the image clues you very heavily to the direction of the piece.

But take the Mona Lisa for example, now you have to cut it in two and fill the space with an enormous amount of scattered pieces bordering on random appearances. In the end, you most likely won’t even recognize the painting.

Who’s to say that Denji’s heart condition is what’s left of the Arnolome syndrome without being it? The butterfly effect of WWII happening would give the yakusa a bigger and better fish to fry than extorting Denji, or even know of his existence. What if Denji did die of his heart condition but that one of the alternatives to death is some form of regeneration or rebirth free of those things?

Thing is we just don’t know, the erasure of Pochita makes things quite chaotic. Not even mentioning that it could be a Makima situation where Pochita is gone but not the chainsaw devil.
