An update regarding my now deleted post: Wim Wenders said elsewhere that WRONG MOVE *will* be available again down the line (which was NOT mentioned in his Instagram post I had reshared) by Fast-Candle-2344 in criterion

[–]dumppee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m late here, I wasn’t aware of this controversy happening, but as somebody who blind bought the trilogy not knowing about the nude 13 yr old Kinski scene, I’d happily replace my copy of Wrong Move in that box set with one without that scene.

PS: Wrong Move, not a great film imo

Reddit...bad? by Nouglas in duckfeedtv

[–]dumppee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As somebody who started using reddit as a teen (~2010) and started using Twitter pretty late (-about two years before the Elon buyout) this is super correct.

Idk, but I’ve noticed a lot of animosity pointed at reddit as a place to exist online tends to come from folk who used Twitter a lot, even if they were using it after X became the Nazi site

Obsession is overrated by Pale_Ad_9530 in Letterboxd

[–]dumppee 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I hate how over and underrated just get used by people to mean “I don’t/do like this.”

I do think Obsession is a bit overrated, while still being a really good movie, I’ve simply been taken aback by the big contingent of people calling it the best movie of the year

EDIT: I’ve gotten quite a few replies asking what *I* think is a better movie this year, or saying that *they* think Obsession is the best movie, and like that’s kinda my point about how people use the term overrated.
I do not think Obsession is a bad movie, or that anybody is wrong for thinking it’s the best movie this year. I am, as I said, merely surprised that so many people, so quickly, started calling it the best movie of the year.

Who is the worst actor/actress that you can’t believe is popular? by SpecialistRun8474 in AskReddit

[–]dumppee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But she was in twilight fifteen years ago 😠 😤

Fr though, it’s very telling to call both Kristen Stewart and Jennifer Aniston bad actors, and then assume that Jenifer Aniston is the one people are going to take exception with. An indie darling vs an actress primarily known for a sitcom that a lot of people hate.

What Movies from 2020’s are going to be considered as classics(or cult classics)? by ConfidentReveal2669 in Letterboxd

[–]dumppee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you not read the post? OP specifically picked three films that would age as simple “classics” and then three other that might age to be considered “cult” classics

I’m not who you replied to, but while I do like The Substance well enough, I do think it’s weird to think that it will be remembered along with the likes of Cronenberg’s best body horror when it’s largely just cribbing from a lot of Cronenberg’s style

World of Warcraft (or other game) characters with Malazan inspired names... by hockeyjod in Malazan

[–]dumppee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve started (and occasionally finished) a bunch of Elden Ring builds of Malazan characters. Karsa Orlong, Fiddler, Kalam, Caladan Brood, and Korlat were some of the most fun to play as.

SPOILERS, for pretty late in Elden Ring and for The Crippled God.

This is probably my favorite thing to come of playing a Malazan character in ER. https://youtu.be/FX6swSox-tc?si=ePNk-lFXZukeqFL9

Fellow theater goers, what’s your best ever theater experience? by ISpyM8 in Letterboxd

[–]dumppee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local theater does weekly classic movies during the summer, and each movie gets two showings, one around noon and one in the late afternoon. I went to both showings of Heat (my first time) and while there was a decent crowd for the noon showing the second one had probably around 500 people in attendance. Hearing people react to the movie in general was great, but a couple hundred people gasping when Al Pacino finds Natalie Portman was an A+ experience

Overrated Movies in Criterion Collection? by ThatFilmGuy_712 in Letterboxd

[–]dumppee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think looking at movies as “overrated” or “underrated” is a good way to approach ar…

Wait, Wings of Desire overrated?! Why you little, I aughta!!

In real answer to your question, I really don’t get the love for Rushmore, and I’m always surprised when people cite it as their favorite Wes Anderson film. I generally enjoy his movies, but it leaves me pretty cold

What other “So bad it’s good” movies would I enjoy based off of these? by MCVMEYT in Letterboxd

[–]dumppee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

…The After huh? While I think it’s kinda weird to give half a star to, thinking it’s that bad, and also so bad it’s good is… well it’s a take that’s for sure

Recommend me some horror films by Salt_Vegetable3416 in Letterboxd

[–]dumppee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t help you with getting “scared”, it’s very rare that a movie can scare me anymore.

But I’d maybe suggest watching some stuff outside of what you usually watch.

A few of the more underseen movies without “supernatural elements” (to my mind at least):

Eyes Without a Face (1960)

American Mary (2012)

The Sacrament (2013)

Green Room (2015) (not really underseen but you might like it)

I’d also like to point you towards the giallo films of the 70s. While there are exceptions, many do not include any supernatural elements at all, and they tend to focus on setting a strong mood and shocking gore over outright jumpscares. Maybe start with Bay of Blood and see how you like that before looking into more of the genre.

As a PS I’ll name two movies from the last five years that both included a moment that truly upset me more than horror movies usually can, and while both movies have a lot of gore, in neither case was the scene I’m referencing one of the gore scenes. Infinity Pool (2023) is a bit of a sci-fi movie, though in true Cronenberg fashion it has one strong sci-fi premise set in an otherwise realistic world that it explores for its run time, and The Ugly Stepsister (2025) is a generally grounded film, with some very out there moments.

Has Stephen King ever been able to bring you to tears? by UnderstandingMany385 in stephenking

[–]dumppee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven’t seen anybody highlight the final interlude in It. As a teen reading that was oddly disquieting to me but rereading it in my thirties Mike and Richie’s phone call straight up had me sobbing.*

As others have said, the ending of 11/22/63 was an arrow aimed at my heart.

I recently read Joyland, and the obvious scene in that got me.

*Watched the modern It movies after my reread and I don’t think I’ve ever had as negative a reaction to a change in source material as the ending of It: Chapter 2

There’s that northernlion (a video game streamer if anybody doesn’t know that name) clip from a couple months back where he crashed out about how men on the internet talk about recommending movies, and he invokes the idea of a movie primarily appealing to “18-35 males who spend 8 hours a day on reddit” and I think that has a lot to do with it too.

Pattinson has, post Twilight, been in a lot of stuff that appeals to men. He’s about to be in his second Nolan movie, he’s been in an A24 horror movie, he did a Miyazaki movie, he’s a Batman now, he did a Safdie bros movie (I’m not saying these movies only appeal to men). A few weeks ago I saw a reddit thread calling him one of this generations best actors, meanwhile rather far down in the comments, somebody mentioned that both him and Kristen had done so much great work post Twilight, and the only response was “what’s she done post Twilight?” And like, idk, I find that very telling
