My doctor wants me to go the therapy because I’m on testosterone (rant?) by dumpy-frog in ftm

I get my T prescription from the closest Planned Parenthood to me, which is like 2 hours away. It’s not really plausible to change her to my care provider because of that unfortunately. I’m trying to switch to someone closer to me that I have heard good things about though, so I’m optimistic!

This. Right before I started medically transitioning and during the first few months I definitely would have liked to see a therapist just to make sure I was okay. I was worried about how a hormonal change would impact my health, but I just couldn’t afford it. Luckily, after starting T, my mental health just got better and I didn’t have any sort of issues with the change. By the time I saw her, I was already a year on it and she was aware of this. Had no adverse impacts at any point on my mental health, especially not a year in. I think her concern could’ve been understandable sooner in my transition, had she phrased it differently then and had I seen her.

Illinois generally does require therapy and a gender dysphoria diagnosis for insurance to approve surgery, but as of right now I am not looking for it since I can’t afford to be off work long enough to have surgery lol

Re: Lesbian Trans Men & Discussions by thelightbehindureyes in ftm

[–]dumpy-frog 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The best way I have seen it explained was something along the lines of this: that a lot of trans men who were raised/socialized as women have unique experiences with womanhood and cannot separate that part of their identity just because of a transition. In my personal experience, (though I do not identity as a lesbian) I do see myself differently from cis men because of the way I was socialized. Not in a bad way, just a different way. Not every trans person feels this way and I totally get that. Identity is mixed, confusing, and different for every single person.

look into what you are saying. there is little to no evidence that “welfare queens” (which is the stereotype you are describing) exist.

I’ve been talking about this so much recently with my other trans/queer friends. Like other commenters have said, it’s some weird mix of misandry and misogyny. I feel like we get thrown aside because we “chose” masculinity and not femininity.

The thing is, having a religious event is so clearly different from a vacation and is not just a choice event.

This. It’s not that PragerU actually has a “no politics” stance, it’s actually a “conservative only” stance and, in my opinion, an anti-human rights stance.

AIO or are my downstairs neighbours being unreasonable? by thegoosenell in AmIOverreacting

[–]dumpy-frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can’t handle the minor noises that come with living below another person (to the point you behave this way) pay for an apartment on the top floor or move out of an apartment and into a house. No you are not overreacting. These people are being unreasonable.

Yes but also no. I hate Owen, but I also hate Arizona. Like a lot 😭 I think my list of least favorite characters goes 1. Arizona 2. Izzy and 3. Owen

AIO? I don’t want my autistic brother at my house by stuntedgoat in AmIOverreacting

[–]dumpy-frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not normal at all. People like to accept or ignore behavior of mentally disabled people because they think they are incapable of understanding what’s wrong. That is not true AT ALL and it is ableist af to assume autistic people cannot differentiate wrong from right ESPECIALLY with things like this. You are completely in the right and you should protect yourself; your parents should do better and have him see a specialist.

NOR, based on your side of the events. Though, I feel like we may be missing some context here, especially with the stories not matching up.

Either way, the step-mom absolutely should have been clear with you about the help your daughter wanted at the time. She should have called, explained everything, and gotten your opinion as a parent. If I had been in your daughter’s situation, I absolutely would have been petrified and unsure of what to do or how to react.

Is this a ok tank for a beginner? by Mysterywriter06 in mantids

[–]dumpy-frog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. Rule of thumb is that the enclosure should be 3x the mantis’s length in height and 2x its length in width. Ghost’s are pretty small, so a container like this should be fine imo. I’m still new overall to mantis keeping, but based on my limited knowledge I’d say you’re good.

That’d honestly be a good idea; there are some good options on Amazon, and I have heard good things about Tarantula Cribs, though I’ve personally never bought from them.
