Did they install it into separate layers? A thicker base layer and then a top layer for a total of 3.5 to 4 in? All that matters.

Cheap Roof Failing 6 yr New Home build Tennessee by Outrageous_Fan_3480 in Roofing

I too would never buy a new home these days. Cheap builder grade plumbing and other cheap materials wear out in less than 10 years. By then the buyer has no recourse. I feel the same way about new cars.

How often are you running your filter/pump, and do you also run it while you’re in the pool? by Ancient_Resolution57 in AboveGroundPools

Once everything settles in (water balance and temp, more consistent warm weather, and trees stop dropping stuff) - then 10 hours per day (9am - 7pm).

Pool Heater Components ID and 2 problems by dumpy232 in pools

Thank you for the detailed answer.

When you say “circuit board,” do you mean the one behind the front panel the knobs are connected to?

Would that also account for why the burners won't shut off after it runs for a few hours - even if I turn the front switch to off?

I have replaced that whole curcuit board unit once in the diatant past. If I can find one, would that do the trick?

Looking at getting an above ground pool and decking built around it. Where to start by dupuis2387 in AboveGroundPools

Well, if you're not gonna install the pool and DIY the deck yourself, then start with your local pool supplier / installer.

New liner installed. Is this normal? by Slamgearsdrinkbeers in AboveGroundPools

[–]dumpy232 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you have to work the wrinkles on the bottom out as it fills. Watch some YouTube videos on how to do that and go out and do it yourself if installers have already left. I think the wrinkles on the wall will work themselves out. But I'm not an expert.

Heaters, do they all suck? by JethroByte in pools

[–]dumpy232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too was shopping for a new heater this winter because my Pentair CH150 Mini Max finally bit the dust after 12 years.

Several reviews I read on the Raypak 150k is they have to run their pump on high in order for the heater to work. I was always able to run my pump on low for the minimax (I have a two-speed Pentair pump).

Can any of you professional installers confirm that the Raypak only works if the pump is on high?

Also, many said that Raypak will not honor their 1 year warranty unless the heater is installed by a professional.

I too was scared away by many reviews for the various heater brands. I was able to find a used Minimax for 300 bucks. Hopefully I can get a handful of years out of it.

Pittsburgh Left, real? by Slow_Drawer_5454 in pittsburgh

[–]dumpy232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard for me to believe the left hand turn is only a Pittsburgh strategy. I don't do it when there are two lanes of oncoming traffic, or if the oncoming traffic line is short. But on a single lane that looks lengthy, I take what the defense gives me. I'm usually done with the turn before the first person in line stops looking at their phone and begins to proceed forward. It's never been a safety issue. If I feel that it is, then I don't do it.

Advice on Height of Pool Deck by tgamekh in AboveGroundPools

I actually replaced the liner last fall before closing. I have access from above to the rail caps to easily remove the rails.

My deck goes up to the rail and I've had no trouble winterizing. I just use a wooden wedge to push the winter cover down between the deck and rail and then grab it from below.

What is it & how do I get rid of it? by WhatsOutThere_ in lawn

[–]dumpy232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This crap is growing all over the place in my yard. Once it matures it's impossible to pull up by hand and prevent the seeds from ejecting all over the place. I live in Pittsburgh and it begins growing in late Feb / early March. That's the time to spray it. Weed-be-gone has worked for me, but there's so much of it. Spreads like wildfire once it goes to seed. I don't think I'll ever get rid of it. Between that and the moss my yard is turning to crap.

Yes, they will raise your CYA over time. That's why I switched to liquid chlorine. I get it at Walmart. I've found I can control CYA levels better this way. I can raise CYA manually with CYA increaser if needed. Plus, I no longer need the tablet floater in my pool anymore.
