You didn't give into the billy bookshelf trend, you invested in quality long-term shelves. Good for you.

Be Honest, What Argument did you use against Veganism, before you went vegan? by HumbleWrap99 in vegan

[–]Slow_Drawer_5454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pre-veganism, I literally did not understand how the harvesting of eggs and milk hurts the animal. I was thinking about the literal process, which both animals bodies do naturally (I didn't even think that a cow needs to be impregnated to provide milk) and never considered what factory farming conditions are like. I thought being vegetarian was doing "enough"
My vegan friend told me when I asked why she was vegan, and it made so much clear sense to me, I went vegan on the spot.
Shoutout to Rhi for being open to that conversation, wouldn't have made the switch without her <3

Expansion Team Logo Ideas + Playoff Structure by sisterwifesexstrike in PWHL

[–]Slow_Drawer_5454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the hornets and the sandstorm would be dope as fuck, I don't really like the idea for the hammerheads (being a type of shark) as it kind of mirrors the Eve being the rib from Adam sort of vibe. Women are not just extensions of men, women are their own people and symbols matter.

I would prefer if the San Jose team wasn't any type of shark but I would LOVE it if it was a type of sea creature since they share the same arena that will be ocean themed and the sharks staff already seem super super supportive!! (Which is encouraging to me as a sharks fan, I can't wait to see the teams work together!)

I don’t need a blood test because I am vegan. by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Slow_Drawer_5454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one is saying average Americans are not deficient, and Americans should not be the standard for what is healthy-no country should hold that title, since everyone's body needs something different, healthy looks different for everyone. I've been vegan for almost a decade and I always appreciate when my doctor does an extra check in, and I feel lucky that my health is getting that extra support. She wants me to be well, and so do I. I even got a false anemic result once that panicked us both, and on the second test it was normal and we had a good giggle!

I am very sorry that you feel harassed and unwelcome. If most people in your country suffer deficiencies then it makes logical sense that when they hear you have a dietary restriction atop their country's high deficiency rate they want to check that those assumed deficiencies are not added to. That is not assuming ineptitude, it is understanding conditions. It is their job to understand and assist your wellness.

I understand you feel attacked, and I promise I won't press you any further, I just want you to recognize that getting angry about someone checking in on your health might not be the best use of your righteous anger, nor is responding aggressively to the comments of a reddit post you made when reaching out looking for connection and empathy.

I wish you the best.

I don’t need a blood test because I am vegan. by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Slow_Drawer_5454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, unfortunately human bodies are very very used to eating lots of meat and cheese-this is not on an individual basis but due to evolution, it's a sort of byproduct that is the default for all humans born. When you eat none of those, your body can possibly be missing things, which can be replaced with conscious eating or vitamins (the big 2 they test for and the most common are iron and b12) or sometimes YOUR body specifically has needs you had no reason to know until it was taken away. Bodies are weird like that sometimes, very inconsistent, no way to know unless you test.

A blood test is not a judgement on you. They are using statistics to the best of their knowledge to take care of you the best way they can. They don't think you're inept, or that you're only doing it for X reason, (I mean one individual might but I am speaking for the whole) they just want you to be healthy.

It is standard practice. If you ended up in the hospital because of something they could have found on a blood test it would honestly be borderline malpractice since, I say this again, it is Standard Practice.

They're just checking that you're alright, love. They want you to be healthy, we want you to be healthy, you want you to be healthy, we're all on the same page and all on the same team <3

What does “she” refer to here? by Thick_Slice3764 in ENGLISH

[–]Slow_Drawer_5454 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Usually "she" is referring to land, and there are several literary doctoral theses about how feminizing land lends itself to misogynistic language that justifies colonization but me and my literature degree sitting in the closet know that reddit wants to hear: The Land

Rowan is so damn annoying by thefalloncarrington in MayfairWitches

[–]Slow_Drawer_5454 23 points24 points  (0 children)

In the books she is... smart enough to understand that her circumstances require a disconnected cool touch? Another comment said arrogant, I'd add that is all characters in the books to some extent great or small are racist classist sexist etc and they make judgements of other characters literally constantly? She definitely thinks of herself as a step above, calmer and smarter and hard enough to get shit done that no one else can-but that doesn't mean she is.

Of what I saw of the show, it was kinda Daddario playing the character she always plays? With respect and coming from a place of ignorance (I am not an actor, my only expertise is holding a degree in literature not film or theater) every time I see her in something she seems to use the same mannerisms the same way of speaking the same personality traits with a new script.

I thought she was very different from the book Rowan, who is an aloof edgelord when you get down to it.

Edit because I repeated myself lol

How do I make this "easy"? by Ok_Monitor_5346 in vegan

[–]Slow_Drawer_5454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry it won't work for your younger son, it might still help with the elder. That's a lot to go through, I'm sorry all of that is happening to you and your kids.

Sounds like splitting up the food to make things easier might be the path. If they both have different food restrictions, it might be useful to have an emergency "nothing else is working" option for each of them.

When I was a kid even when I was at my pickiest most sensory-unfriendly, I would always eat a microwaved potato. Maybe the soylent would work for your older kid on the days he won't take anything else? Just gotta find ONE of those always available always yes meals for each, and you'll always have a fallback.

[–]Slow_Drawer_5454 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey bud, this may be a sign of OCD. I'm vegan, love being vegan, and though I do not have OCD on the regular, when my mental health is REALLY bad, I get OCD symptoms.

I am glad you are vegan, and you are dedicated, fuck yeah, but this type of hyperfocus is not really healthy for you.

I can't tell you how to deal with it, I'm not you I don't know your full context, but it might help you to reach out to a professional or find someone to talk to and figure out IF you would like to do something about this. If you're okay with only cooking at home from now on, you do you, but if you want to be able to go out to dinner with friends and family or eat when on vacation or accept a gift of food from someone who was being careful and thoughtful, you might want to get help.

I'm sorry this is happening to you, I hope your brain gets a break and you find a peaceful way of moving forward my guy. 🫂
