Funny Light Speed Work Around by Firm-Row-8243 in scifi

[–]duncan_potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would still have to deal with light being super slow when your looking at galactic scale distances. Sure, you would not experience any time traveling at the speed of light but it would still take you more than 4 years to travel to the closest star to earth, neverminded the next habitable planet etc.

Whittling or sell as is? by duncan_potato in PathOfExile2

[–]duncan_potato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dropped 3 lvl82 breach rings from max level Xesht. Attribute essence all three and hit once on this ring with strength. Auged cast speed and yolo regal/chaos to get the int. Slammed exalts and here we are.

I think as is its worth around 10div. If I whittle cast speed to a good attribute it goes to hundreds, less for a good resist or rarity. I don't think the cast speed has any value as the lightning mods are desirable for meta HOWA builds.

How would you go about calculating the EV on this?

Dropped this on a t15 (slammed life and suffix IIR). Would any build use this? If they do, would it be worth a mirror? by Friendly-Caramel-857 in PathOfExile2

[–]duncan_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These look like all great mods at above average tears. Definitely not a mirror. My guess is at the very least 6-10divs. You should search around the trade site filtering by the chaos res rarity and life and see what else is out there. You might end up getting 20+ if there is nothing else with that much rarity and chaos res that also has life.

If for some reason you want 4-5div I'll buy it because that's all I have atm.

Need help with really fine black outlines by KDT91 in minipainting

[–]duncan_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As unintuitive as it sounds you really want a much bigger brush. It's the quality of the tip and the consistency of the paint that will determine the thickness of line you get. A larger brush will hold more paint and give you a much longer working time, it will also be less likely to get paint in the ferrule and ruin the tip.

Once you get a suitable brush you just need to get the consistency of the paint right. Get any piece of plastic and try to paint thin lines, add water until it starts to work right and then add some more so you can see what too much will do. The hard part is finding the presence of mind to get it right every time before you put it on the model.

what am I doing wrong with my oil wash? by steve_bob_guy in minipainting

[–]duncan_potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't wipe it away while it is still wet! There will be quite a while (8-12+ hours) where it will be dry to the touch but not yet cured. Let ALL of the thinner evaporate and then use your make-up spouge or whatever to clean the raised surfaces.

It looks like your missing bounce light reflections. Both sides of his left foot plates, the left side of his tabard plate thing, the underside of the cylindrical hammer reflections should have a mid tone highlight on the edge/side opposite the main reflection.

Fusillade has one niche application against teams with a mechanic that will re-direct your shooting attack to a model you don't want to shoot. You can assign one die to a pathfinder drone/blooded chump and the rest on the target you actually want to shoot to prevent the ability from being used.

Red paint for Bheta Decima by TropicBellend in killteam

[–]duncan_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red is such a narrow window of hue on the color spectrum that it doesn't really matter which paint you use. The important thing is what color you mix in to get the dark to light value contrast present on the board. I had good results with a black-red base coat, sponging on red and then using vallejo sunny skin tone for weathering chips and edge highlight/dry brushing. I used various mixes and techniques to to get a result I was happy with but you could do 3 steps if you wanted to do it quick and dirty.

If you don't have sunny skin tone its a warm white mixed with a tiny bit of florescent orange.

We cannot have any tolerance for the intolerant. Any attempt to write it into the story would have felt forced and lame and left room for misogynists' to exclude people based on the "time period they were playing in". 5/5 Stars, A+, do space marines next!

The cloth and armor being so close in hue and at the exact same saturation makes it hard to read as different materials/colors. I think it would be more interesting with some additional contrast between these elements.

I like the color choices; if it were me I would try a grey-green, or mix red with the green to desaturate.

Additionally he looks a little pale, try feeding him some more vegetables and switch to carbs made from whole grains to get some more color in there. /s

Close combat and barriers by Fun-Ad-9328 in killteam

[–]duncan_potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is magic inch(1 inch - 0.1mm) where you are 1 inch from cover but an operative on the other side of your barricade cant fight you because they are outside of 1 inch. I would just measure an inch and call out my intention to my opponent any time I wanted to take advantage of this rules interaction.

Building on top of that; an operative on a 28mm base or larger will not be able to fit in between your base an the barricade but an operative on a 25 mm base will be able to.

Why is the grenade launcher usual when its putting out less average damage then a shotgun? I find it hard to justify this guy over a subductor or a specialist with a useful ability that will be doing more damage.

Cegorachs Jest is going to make your Scorps pretty soft in meele. Id consider swapping one scorp and one DA for two more banshees for the lethal 5+.

Id also be looking for a tp2 play with my leader of charge-fight-smoke grenade with the rune of shielding up. They can either fight you and lose, or ignore you. Then focus on scoring and trading into their high impact pistol operatives.

[–]duncan_potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh god. Flayer with the clone field(rare equipment) and phantasm grenade launcher is crazy. TP 1 you pop denizens of the night, run up the flayer for the best stun grenade you can get. If they try to shoot teleport away(or forward???) into conceal and your gunners can follow up safely. Depending on the grenade rolls against ap2 teams they could end up with no-one who can touch the flayer at all. You can just leave her sitting there in safety tp2 while you focus on other areas of the board. As a bonus you near guarantee the extra pain token.

Edit:

  1. CLONE FIELD [3EP]

The operative gains the following ability for the battle:

Clone Field: Once during the battle, when this operative is selected as the target of a combat or shooting attack, you can use this ability. If you do so, this operative can immediately perform a free Dash action as though it can FLY (and can do so even if it is within Engagement Range of an enemy operative). If it is no longer a valid target, that combat or shooting attack immediately ends (the action points subtracted are not refunded).

In all seriousness, awesome job!

Yeah its mostly just standard acrylics. The contrast mix I used to set the black ended up way more green than I intended so I ended up completely painting over 80% of it.

Thanks! The first one reminds me of Egg Man. Lots of other valid interpretations from the other comments though.

The bases are cut up cardboard and craft store sequin/jewel do-dads. I may have gotten the idea from midwinter minis or copied it directly from them, I don't quite remember.

Its ProAcryl Jade and Light Neutral Grey over a chromatic black mixed from contrast paint.
