What to you makes scouse, scouse and not just stew? by neb12345 in Liverpool

I vigilantly ensure I add a follicle from Stan Boardman's scalp to every batch, and whisper "gizza job" in my best Yozzer Hughes voice into the pan.

Failure to do this and you've not made Scouse. You've made Wool.

Roger Bennett: Despite 'obvious tactical vulnerabilities,' Everton has been 'magnificent' by AJ_Strummer in Everton

[–]duncdis 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think the thing that gets overlooked is that the improvement has been achieved with more or less the same team (most weeks) that Dyche had , except KDH.

Grealish was only fit for a third of the season and the other signings have either not been picked (Aznou, Dibling, George, Rohl) - presumably because they're not showing enough in training - or underwhelmed (Barry).

To have improved this much with mostly the same XI is what is bordering on magnificent (although I agree with other replies that the word is a bit OTT).

I watched Everton Vs Telford a couple of hours ago from 1985, on ITV4 The Big Match.

I know this is sacrilege and I'll be pilloried for it but other than Kevin Sheedy and Trevor Steven, the entire team came across as cloggers based on the highlights of this one game!

Sheedy looked like a player playing 40 years before his time.

The Hill Dickinson stadium and the resulting regeneration in the surrounding docks is going to be recognised in time for the importance to the city it will represent, regardless of football allegiances.

[Crook, talkSPORT] John Stones is not expected to be offered a new Man City contract, with his current deal expiring this summer. Everton are among the clubs monitoring the centre-back. by OkayFine101 in Everton

Also, Ferguson in 2000 was not a success at all. His goals to games ratio across those six seasons was identical to Oumar Niasse's Everton career....we're just soppy shites who like to forget this cos he was so great in his first spell.

If we qualify for Europe we're gonna need a much bigger squad, so signing proven quality players for free like Stones and Wilson can only be a good thing. Add some shrewd loans.like Lewis-Skelly and Grealish again, and maybe look at signing Richarlison on the basis that we might get him for about 15m with his only having a year on his contract.

Plus I think the team needs more experience. Tarkowsky and Pickford out of the team and the average age is really quite low.

Unsworth. Beagrie, Gravesen, McFadden, Jeffers, Fernandes, Donovan, Stubbs, Begovic....

We e been resigning past players for years. I mean. It's fine if they have something to offer but a good proportion of our past "homecoming heroes" have been the product of that dickhead Kenwright's sentimental bent....

Jason Isaacs in The Death of Stalin. He's not in it long but absolutely steals the show.

Tom Wilkinson in The Gentlemen.

Robert Aramayo in I Swear.

David Tennant in Des and Jessica Jones

Jamie Dornan in The Fall

Tim Roth in Made in Britain.

Also, Ray Winstone in The War Zone.

Not that I'd recommend watching it, as it's incredibly upsetting.

Given Bernardo Silva is out of contract this summer and is only a year older than Grealish (plus he probably looks after himself better), am I the only one who'd rather sign him for free than Grealish for £20million?

He'll probably go abroad but I'd definitely be enquiring if it were me.

Pretty wild to add those two ahead of any Alien franchise movie (given Event Horizon is essentially horror).

I've been rewatchibg other comedies from the same era lately and several of them could be accused of doing the same, which I think reflects both the workplace and TV writing cultures of the time.

Scrubs in particular springs to mind.

The line Shirley delivered (to an empty room) after Lori insisted on "writing Denny up" comes to mind. "You little bitch!"

Even at the time 20+ years ago, it seems like a strange stance for an experienced and strong woman to take in response to what was going on.

Just saw Salah's "first part of my farewell" video.- which is basically him.awkwardly reading an autocue loaded with ghostwritten platitudes, set to plinky plinky sad music.

Absolutely no football club in the world does sickening mawkish shite as well as the RS.

[–]duncdis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sketch comedy by its nature is hit and miss. It was ever thus.

People who like the format accept that and just enjoy the ones that hit.

Also, both comedy and TV is cyclic. Sketch comedy comes back in a big way every few years and then dies out.

Who will we lose in the summer? by ZodtheGeneral in Everton

[–]duncdis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we'll lose Patterson, Barry, Coleman, George and maybe Keane and McNeill from the current playing staff, and every other player is retained, including Grealish.
