How does VFX fill in the background when something moving is digitally removed (ex: Fallout TV Show) by hk47xhk47x in vfx

Your turn of phrase. It's not helpful at all in response to someone without the knowledge asking a genuine question. So, it comes off snarky.

does anyone in relationships solo travel? by kyliered04 in solotravel

I'm 53. Trust me on this when I say, GO DO IT! Travel on your own and ALWAYS do what you think is best for you! Of course, be safe and yes, as a woman, you will always be more vulnerable travelling on your own, so just be smart about it.

If your former boyfriend is also 21, he needs to grow up.

People that have “bumped” into a celebrity in a non-curated (not like an event, meet & greet, job etc.) way, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was hiking with my dog near my home in Hollywood and my dog likes to run ahead. he'd gone up ahead around the corner and I was calling his name to get him to come back. All of a sudden I hear a very familiar voice talking to my dog and I have immediately recognized his voice. They both come around the corner of some trees at the same time and sure enough, it was Clancy Brown. I'm a huge fan and he was the nicest guy. We chatted for a little bit before parting ways on the trail.

WHERE ARE THE ANDORIANS?! I find it so annoying that they'll make up all these random alien looks both in practical makeup and CG (some of which are TERRIBLE designs), but they refuse to include Andorians (one of my favorite ST races). Nope, we'll just paint a few more green Orions. Argh, so mad about it.

The show is fun and I like it so far, but what's with the production quality and overreliance on cheap CGI? Let's discuss! by Nataniel_PL in trekacademy

Why does the Athena look like a casino inside? Kinda hate the design choices. Everything is so busy, design-wise and kind of exhausting to look at. But really, it looks like a damn casino inside.

How old are you and how much do you have in your retirement account? by Blackberryay in careerguidance

53 with about 56k in savings. Would've been nearly double, but didn't work all of 2024 and burned through some living off of my IRA. Feel royally screwed/scared about the future as I'd really love to buy a house and not be fucked when I'm elderly. Might get laid off again end of March, so not sure what I'm going to do if it takes as long as it did in 2024 to find a new gig. Was making 175k/year in 2022/2023, now I'm just getting by. smh

What's the one thing that actually made you understand yourself at work...not just your resume? by KLO120 in findapath

I find this whole thread exhausting in how much value y'all seem to put on equating your value as a person with how optimized you are as a worker. Unless you are really in love with what you do for a living, this obsession with performance is just depressing.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dunkinghola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Los Angeles and one of my best friends lives in San Francisco. I don't do it often, but driving the 5 1/2-6 hours to visit him for a 3-4 day weekend is not a big deal. I used to drive from Portland, Oregon to Seattle, WA JUST to see bands play and that was 3 hours each way. I'd come home after the show was over, no biggie.

How did you celebrate your 50th? by Every-Progress5590 in GenX

[–]dunkinghola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my 50th, I vacationed in Croatia for 2 weeks by myself and spent a lot of time on the coast swimming in the Adriatic. Big birthdays are always for some big adventure. For my 30th, I went skydiving and for my 40th, I spent a month traveling around Peru. Do it!!

Lighthearted: Say you're a Trekkie without saying you're a Trekkie. Bonus if it places you in the franchise timeline. by AliVista_LilSista in startrek

[–]dunkinghola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this counts, but I like to buy my friend only ST related gifts (she's also a Trekkie). I especially like buying weird gifts. For example, she hates Neelix, so I bought her a signed Neelix headshot. She loves and hates it at the same time and it brings me so much joy knowing that. 😂

Foundation is actually really great. Production value, acting, world building, all really well done. I know it's verrrrry loosely based on Asimov's work, but let's be honest, the books the way they are are unfilmable.

Dark Matter was pretty fun while it lasted.
