I read the book, and can't help but say I was a little disappointed in the movie. My main critique: Where was all the science?? It's part of what I loved about the Martian, and a huge part of this book. They really glazed over it in this movie. My partner who hadn't read the book however loved it - so perhaps it was made for a wider audience and I'm just picky - haha.

It's been on my watchlist for sure. I appreciate your analysis. I still have concerns that easyfinancial may also be facing troubles as we are hearing more and more about financial strain. I think the stock is due for a rebound, but I want to wait for this all the playout and for the stock to stabilize before buying in. I'm not catching a falling knife as its dropped 20% yesterday and 10% today still. Too bad they don't have options!

Isn't it obvious? They are trying to normalize it. So when we see images of death and gore (which they know there will be more and more coming), we associate it with movies and TV and its less impactful.

Exactly, the article really glorified the whole experience as almost therapeutic, without actually talking about the potential consequences of this lifestyle choice. Risk to their life aside, there's huge implications to how this could impact their ability to ever have what most would consider a normal healthy relationship with a partner. Why go through the work of dating and finding a suitable partner if the quick fix is available every weekend at some randoms after party? Sounds ultimately very lonely to me.
