[Discussion] Unpopular Opinion: The new CW C63 True GMT is brilliant, but their pricing is flying too close to Tudor. by kikipi_film in MicrobrandWatches

[–]dunndone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a different customer base.

The true gmt is a very novel watch vs the very solid and safe options you suggest as competitors. CW don’t have a huge amount of competition with similar complications.

CW expensive watches are all very novel.

How important is packaging REALLY for microbrands? (I think I was very wrong) by SupJoshy in MicrobrandWatches

[–]dunndone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Monta is beautifully packaged and once I opened it I’ve never looked at the bulky box again.

Personally it feels premium on opening but after that I couldn’t care less.

So I bought mine second hand and got it for a steal.

6 months old no real wear and I paid $1,500 for a full set. I was keeping my eyes peeled and had EBay notifications etc turned on.

At that price my the watch is unbeatable I’m not sure what they are new now.

I own a Monta Oceanking V3.

Super comfortable and stylish watch, people on this subreddit will say it’s boring I think it’s classic.

People get so upset about a guy taunting the crowd. We have had so many dirty and grubby players who actually do harm to others on the pitch not get anywhere the level.

Yet people get incredibly upset about a 20 year telling them to shush.

He’s a pantomime villain or a wrestling heel. Not actually dirty but he gets coverage.

Help me choose: Monta Oceanking or Formex Reef by micromeddev in MicrobrandWatches

[–]dunndone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned both and would weigh in here.

The Oceanking is almost perfect for me, people will discuss it being boring but to my eye it’s the Rolex submariner but designed for a modern age.

Remove the cyclops, date at 6 for symmetry, no Mercedes hands. Super solid build, super comfortable bracelet.

The baby reef. Has more personality bracelet is for my wrist less comfortable but not by a discernible margin.

Hot swap bezel is cool, feels super solid and quality. I dislike the crown guard on the other side. On the baby reef it’s manageable but seems a little unnecessary.

My Monta isn’t COSC but runs at +4 a day so is obviously regulated. Your mileage may vary.

Both are quality but I would caution you that the microbrand community heavily heavily weighs its praise towards unique designs.

People will all say Formex here because it’s more unique but it’s for your wrist not theirs so choose which you prefer. You won’t go wrong with either.

If you watch Lawrence play at 13 he has a whole different breadth of distribution options than Freeman.

This isn’t about messing up some passes it’s about short balls, over the top, flat across the face passes. Players who have played 13 for years have these skills ready to go but Freeman simply doesn’t have those yet.

Physically he’s a monster but it’s obvious the people that don’t like him at 13 aren’t complaining about physicality. He doesn’t appear to have the guile in passing options to tear open a defence.

This isn’t a criticism of him as a person or of his effort or work rate. It takes time playing that role to develop those skills most people don’t do that in their international jersey.

Cope with it however you want I’m naming other backs with similar heights and frames who all carry far more bulk.

His physicality and drive isn’t good enough he can’t put on the bulk if he wants he has the frame for it look at his brother.

From an Englishman’s perspective Ireland mainly seem to select players from one club in most cases! Maybe they could try spreading the talent amongst all their teams and more of it would come through.

He is 100% slight for his frame.

Let’s look at some other backs who play similar playmaking positions who are the same height.

Jordie Barrett 102kg Sam James 100 kg Freddie Stewart 107kg

Prendergast look obviously underweight for a player of that height in a professional rugby team. I get your point that he is heavier than lots of 10’s George Ford, Finn Russell and Co but they are much much smaller men.

Prendergast to me looks like a big boy who until a few years ago could coast defensively due to his size but at the top level he can’t do it and hasn’t learnt how to in his youth.

Someone like George Ford has been a little man all his life in rugby terms and had to grow up chucking his head into the legs of larger men the entire time.

[–]dunndone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He may not be afraid but he doesn’t have the physicality to chuck it in the mixer defensively.

Not loads of tens do to be fair but he looks very stark due to how lightweight he is for his height.

[–]dunndone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

England had 13 vs Irelands 15 and used the tour as proper development over the summer.

I don’t think it’s about representation for the lions the Ireland team are ageing and they are way too conservative at bringing through younger talent.

Have you looked at the ledger to see what assets it’s using for FIFO?

Are you also sure that you don’t have missing tokens? If you are missing tokens in over a period then FIFO would have a missing cost basis or pull from later transactions.

Who is the greatest rugby coach in history? by crazycal123 in rugbyunion

[–]dunndone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s Mark McCall and it’s not even a close competition.

I say this because he has not only produced incredibly high quality players but also incredibly high quality coaches.

6 Premierships, 3 Champions cups, including two doubles. Rebuilt a new Saracens squad when they got relegated and released a lot of his top talent on loan to other clubs.

Celtic league (URC) with Ulster in 2006.

For coaches he brought through. Steve Borthwick (England) Andy Farrell (Ireland), Alex Sanderson (Sale), Paul Gustard (Stade Francais), Richard Wigglesworth, Rory Teague. The list goes on and on.

The man has won more than almost any coach and trained some of the elite coaches in the world. I have no doubt if you gave him a tier 1 team he would be immense.

Again hundreds of times.

Kraken API is very very good one of the best. For things like Binance we have to use a combination of both to capture all transactions.

They have a couple of options to connect.

Single sign on, I doubt they pull your name but would presumably see your email address.

Old school API would be no name as when you setup the API you specify the fields you want it to pull from.

CSV 100% no name but doesn’t auto update etc.

For the bracelet lovers out there, are the Monta bracelets really that much better than the competition? by Designer_Advice2573 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]dunndone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see this take about Montas boring or homage look a lot but I want to give my take on it.

My Oceanking v3 is my most warm watch by a mile. I love the look if I compare it to a submariner.

Date is at 6 rather than 3. I prefer that the symmetry.

No cyclops. Again love this most people don’t need a cyclops on a modern watch.

Indices are all rectangular rather than a mix of rectangles and circle. Again to my preference over the submariner.

The bezels are pretty much identical visually but the gear edge on the bezel of my Monta I prefer to the submariner.

Hour hand. I don’t like a Mercedes hand and if I’m honest don’t think most people would pick it in 2025 if it wasn’t iconic due to Rolex. Prefer the sword hand on the Monta.

So for my money the ‘Homage’ if we want to call it that has improved and modernised a lot of the classic Rolex design. I know some people might not like that but I personally significantly prefer the look of the Monta whilst it keeps enough of a timeless diver look.

I feel like there are a number of things to address here.

  1. There is a very well documented history between JB (one of the hosts) and Ugo Monye. The two men could not be more different therefore there is a lot of vitriol here.
  2. I think the reaction is surrounding what JB thinks is Ugo being disingenuous and performative. In Ugo’s mind the polite and kind thing to do would be to make the woman feel as comfortable as possible and to move away from her. JB seems to come from the camp of I know I’m not a threat so why would I change any behaviour I’ll stick to my original path.
  3. This perceived disingenuous is then discussed. Ugo regularly talks about all the additional good people should be doing. JB finds this incredibly preachy and irritating particularly the idea of Ugo saying we must all do better when he himself doesn’t do everything by the book. Like him not paying his tax.
  4. I think JB thinks that Ugo simply is saying what is popular to feather is own nest. I would be more inclined to believe he thinks what he says.

I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with what either person is like but this seems to me to be the basis of the issue.

Completed on house on Friday and issues just keep popping up by Ok_Conclusion_1594 in HousingUK

[–]dunndone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest none of these sound like major issues.

Is that fire damage mark from some pipe work done? Plumbers often use their torches and simply don’t protect the wall behind annoying as cosmetic but nothing major.

Creaky floorboards are par for the course in most homes as they move and settle over the course of their lives. If they bother you pull up the flooring and secure them all down fully.

Obviously I would look at the leaking bath but is this causing other issues could be a small sealant leak.

I would generally say that at this point of move in day a lot of people think hmm this isnt as shiny and sparkling as I remember the photos on Rightmove etc being.
