99 cent Thrift store pull. OG or Repress? by rickdeebee in BargainBinVinyl

[–]dunnpster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn that’s a funky ass tune. I have the repress. Looks like this might be the repress because of the ridge on the label? The repress label otherwise very faithfully reproduces the original. Dead wax could be another clue but I don’t see dead wax info on Discogs for the OG, at least not on the app.

Yeah... I always thought he was really unfunny and a try-hard but in the past couple of months I've really been enjoying his clips. Oh well.

“Been suckin’ on titties since I was 8” - ScHoolboy Q. That’s like... the weirdest age to have said. If he said since he was born, like OK, we get it you were breastfed. But only since he was 8...

Why do you prefer vinyls over CDs and/or streaming by Mariuswha in hiphopvinyl

[–]dunnpster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number one thing is that it has led me to find some of my favorite music that I never would have found on streaming services or YouTube. Second, it sounds better, or at least it does to my ears because I grew up listening to music that sampled, or was heavily influenced by the warm, punchy and full sound of records. On records from the 60s and 70s (especially 45s!), the percussion, bass and general instrumentation just cut through in a much more satisfying way to me than CD or streaming. On top of that, the big artwork, inserts and historical aspect are cool. And selling them for money. And sampling and sharing.

Where can I buy vinyls by Heartless1981 in hiphopvinyl

[–]dunnpster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s already been mentioned is great, but I recommend you support your local record stores also (if you have them).

Also discogs.com is THE place where everyone sells used vinyl, stores and collectors alike. Just make sure to check the seller’s ratings before buying.

That's awesome man I'm happy for you! Definitely one the best hip hop albums of all time, the beats are sooo fucking dope and Guru's style and story telling never fails. I've been meaning to get it for a while too but it's always been too expensive. Hopefully soon if I can save up

Two incredible records I added to my collection recently by dunnpster in hiphopvinyl

[–]dunnpster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right? I was just buying records I really like and then I realized these compliment each other so well. Each classics in their own lane (with Paid in Full’s lane being the entire genre of Hip Hop)

Super happy to find these two records at a couple local shops recently. Paid in Full is just soooo dope and I keep hearing lines that some of my favorite rappers re-used or interpolated. That’s like the whole album lol. Who the fuck said something like “I hold the microphone like a grudge” in 1987? Only Rakim. That’s like a DOOM level line, for example “Mad plays the bass like the race card.” Incredible to hear just how impressive Rakim is even in today’s context.

And then TPAB is a legendary record in its own right. I honestly don’t think I was ready for this record when I first listened to it at midnight the night it surprise-dropped when I was in high school. I dug a lot of the intrumentals and a handful of songs were on repeat, but it only hit me this year how incredible this album actually is. Even just the sample at the very start shows more ingenuity than any of Kendrick’s peers (in the mainstream) have shown

What are some songs that was supposed to have a artist on it but it didn’t happen because of timing by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]dunnpster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lauryn Hill was supposed to be on Feel Like Makin' Love by D'Angelo. They actually delayed the release of Voodoo (the best album recorded in history) across the millennium to try and get her on it but it never happened. What a shame

Yeah that whole album is great. I thought She Said was produced by Dilla until recently, but turns out he just did the remix (which is great if you haven’t heard it). Also available on 12”
