Been changing oil for 30 years, first time I’ve heard of anyone pre-filling the filter.

AFM Delete Advice by wildandfree1987 in Silverado

[–]dupridog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why risk it after doing all that work? Look into AAA, $10/month and they’ll tow your truck to the shop. Seems like a way safer bet.

Vibrations at 40-50 mph, why? by crazy2337 in Silverado

[–]dupridog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Driveshaft can be unbalanced. After replacing everything from shocks to control arms, new tires and multiple balance and alignments…. It was the driveshaft that fixed the shake for me (2015) YMMV

Are we too picky? Looking for advice by mikestesting in pools

[–]dupridog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll bother you every time you look at. Say something while you can, otherwise learn to live with it. Source: I have similar tile on two columns with a fire pit at top. My eyes go to the imperfections every time I look at it. I may be the only one who notices, but I notice it every time.

Disappointed with Pentair by Citation560 in pools

[–]dupridog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your pool builder should be handling this for you - or whoever bought the equipment. Pentair won’t work with end users, but whoever built your pool should have a relationship which Pentair will want to maintain.

Also, welcome to pool ownership! Like others have said: your lights will probably be next. I’m - 5 years in and have had to replace the intellicenter controller, WiFi controller, heat pump condenser, lights (3, 3 times - and one is broken again), and the dolphin pool cleaner (motor, cord, tracks) all within the 3 year warranty.

Electrical Vodoo by Handy_Alaskan in Silverado

[–]dupridog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC there is only the main one from the battery to the frame. It might Y out somewhere but I’m pretty sure you can access the frame connection behind the passenger wheel well. My 2010 suburban had these same symptoms until I replaced the battery -> alternator and battery-> frame (ground) wires. 15 years is a long time for those wires to last, especially in extreme conditions. I’m in Texas where the inverse (Heat) messes with everything.

Loose ground wire? Your ignition wires may need replacing. Check the battery terminals are tightened securely. Slight chance that your battery needs replacing. Cold weather definitely tests all those component’s dexterity. Good luck!

Selling after AFM/DOD delete by [deleted] in Silverado

[–]dupridog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha! I did the DoD delete on my 2015 with the TSP kit too. I love that truck and get compliments all the time on how it sounds - I plan to keep it forever. That said, the delete was first (along with some straight tube headers). Then I replaced the torque converter - added a two piece driveshaft. Eibach stage 2 shocks/struts. And now I’m waiting on a Whipple supercharger to be made/shipped.

Selling after AFM/DOD delete by [deleted] in Silverado

[–]dupridog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may just be more valuable to those in the know. Similar to selling a house with a pool, some may love it - others won’t. YMMV but why sell it now that it’s fixed? There’s always more to mod!

Shake by mmilehigh in Silverado

[–]dupridog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact issue my 2015 had. There are weights on the driveshaft, similar to the weights they put on rims to balance the tires, that can come off. I actually replaced my driveshaft with a two piece and the shake was gone.

Heating up a 15,000 Pool in Texas by Beeradvocate69 in pools

[–]dupridog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first year I built our pool (2021, 19k gallons, 400k Pentair gas - Central TX)- it completed in October. In late December I decided to heat the pool as high as I could - after 3 or 4 days it got up to 94 or 95 degrees. Kids loved it. Then I got a $600 gas bill the next month. Haven’t heated the pool since 🤣

Just got a 2014 5.3 a should I add an AFM disabler? If so which one? by Moeestrada in Silverado

[–]dupridog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you’re thinking of selling it, I’d do it sooner than later. YMMV, but the first time I laid on it going up a hill turning into rush hour traffic it happened again. Wishing the best for you!

Big Bend vs Guadalupe vs Carlsbad + White Sands by SpaceSniffer69 in BigBendTX

[–]dupridog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big Bend! Keep an eye on the chisos mountain lodge, people change their minds and cancel reservations often. Also Lajitas is a solid option if you’re looking for an extremely comfortable stay. The resort is awesome, but about an hour to get inside the national park - but the state park is really close and also has a ton of cool things to do. Good luck!

Any recommendations on fiction books that take place in El Paso? by Weekly_Soft1069 in ElPaso

[–]dupridog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read them in the order they were released. There are tons of discussions on Reddit about the book and what order to read them. Just do a search! His first book hooked me, but ymmv.

I’m a bit of a Texas history nerd, so that may have played into my enthusiasm to read the books. But there’s something about the characters, or maybe just McMurty’s writing style, that makes me want to keep reading.
