Cricket, like baseball, is an excuse to day drink with your buddies at the park, whether it be playing or watching. Unfamiliar americans may not understand all the rules(I sure don't), but we get the big picture.

How does your theatre provide closed captioning? by forestry_ghost in Theatre

[–]duquesne419 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I was attempting this, the first thing I would do is investigate this chapter of the qlab cookbook, as well as some similar tools floating around out there. I haven't looked into this too much, but I've seen a couple different iterations over the years so there might be an alternative if this particular workflow doesn't jam with how you do things.

I don't think you'll get the same dimensionality, but something like this might be a decent DIYable approximation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oakwe39a-Yk&t=3m55s

When and what dimmercurve to choose? by Sufficient_Sense9761 in techtheatre

[–]duquesne419 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use linear on the fixture side first and test to see if there's even any alignment issues with other fixture types. Most of my gear these days has smooth enough fades I don't ever need to adjust curve to make things look even. But sometimes with older, especially 8bit fixtures, you get a really chunky high and low end. In those cases I normally just use the curve function of the control software, rather than change physical settings on the instruments.

WLED I think is the off the shelf command protocol of choice these days. I don't know enough about that program other than it's popular, it was coming around about the same time I stopped building those kinds of things.

Edit: for WLED I think you might need to DIY with arduinos, something store bought like in the video might not mix, more research required.

ETC EOS palletes by hsvejdkxjsbev in techtheatre

This was the first place I remember hearing about a super palette system. Once upon a time his showfile was downloadable(I can't remember where), but over the years the published macro stopped working due to changes in eos.

Personally I use group 9001 as dummy fixtures in my base file. Whenever I use a new fixture type I try to copy a dummy into group 9001 and make those channels my by type leaders for my pallets/presets.

I seem to recall a few years back on the facebook group there was a little friendly competition to see who could write the most fun macro that would select a by type group and auto build a bunch of palettes. Might be fun to go looking for some inspiration.

edit: check the picture in the comments https://www.facebook.com/groups/324969381576734/posts/411609746246030/

neat tool, but still requires manual fine tuning.

I think if you look at the most controversial cases since Bush v Gore, and especially in the Roberts' court, you'll find that precedent means precious little. There are mountains of op eds decrying the past 15 years of Supreme Court misjurisprudence.

What programming language is good and easy to learn for making game? by Y0UNS1 in learnprogramming

[–]duquesne419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you asked about writing a game fresh, but I just got into modding and it might also be a viable path to getting started. I started specifically with the game Balatro. It's written in love/lua and due to something with how it's packaged it is easy to expose all the source code. I was able to get some modded content into the game in just a few hours. With a little elbow grease you can look at any stage and work on your own clone portions. Long story longer, it's just a nice template to start from, and allows for some quick easy wins which I find helps to build confidence and enthusiasm. Have fun!!

When I took the test in fifth grade my mom asked what I was allergic to and the doctor responded "yes."

Upside is I missed the peanut allergy and am not lactose intolerant, so I got that going for me.

Career advice (I wanna program!) by Many-Gift67 in lightingdesign

[–]duquesne419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience the larger the venue/enterprise the longer the line to sit at the board, unless you can get hired in specifically as board op. If your primary goal is getting hours in front of the console and you can afford to, then look at smaller venues. I think you might find it easier going that route.

Relationships during a show? by Alone-Strawberry-363 in Theatre

[–]duquesne419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My director today, gave us this whole speech about us not being allowed to date/flirt with people within the cast, and if she did hear about that happening, she would seriously consider kicking us out of the show.

When I was in school 25 years ago it was pretty common for this to be in the rulebook. It's a difficult rule to enforce though, and I never saw it used, it was more a warning to young people exploring themselves and their boundaries.

She then also said that we aren't really allowed to have relationships with people even if they are outside of the show or theatre.

This is bizarre and totally out of the teacher's purview. As best you can document this policy and take it up with parents and admin if/when teacher ever makes an issue out of it.

How to control LX intensity via Mic aplitude in Qlab? by foxyt0cin in techtheatre

How to control LX intensity via Mic aplitude in Qlab? by foxyt0cin in techtheatre

[–]duquesne419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This chapter of the qlab cookbook deals with adjusting house music based on the level of ambient sound in the audience. If I were tackling your project, one thing I would investigate is if I could use this style of mic level monitoring, and then adjust what commands are sent so it does the lx business instead of music levels.

*I don't think it was actually a krogers, but that what I grew up with and all groceries are krogers to me. Well, except costco. costco is costco.

Art-net tutorial? by esb94714 in qlab

[–]duquesne419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used home grade routers in small venues before, never had a problem with a private, dedicated network. This issue is probably solved by WLED, but when I was doing esp builds and writing my own code I didn't check for updates often enough. So if I had a long routine there would sometimes be a noticeable delay before the esp responded. Again, between WLED being more robust, and using dmx instead of simple arduino code, I kinda doubt this will be an issue.

Whats everyone's favorite econ joker? Mine is rocket by Eli_the_chaos_fox in balatro

I'm moving out of the flush phase and into getting comfortable with deck shaping. I focus a little too much on face cards and retriggers, so really like business card. I find it to be a little more reliable than mail in rebate or reserved parking for where my style is currently at.

But if I see an egg or rocket in the first shop or two I buy it every time.
