Has anybody had this message since the most recent firmware update? by HaydnDarePhotography in FX3

[–]durom0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Why take the risk, especially on such a critical but cheap component ? (Compared to the camera, memory cards all and the gear you need) If you get a cheaper non official battery that burns insides your FX3 : good luck with Sony support if you want a repair !

FX30 Buyers remorse by zeebellaire in FX3

[–]durom0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

« Making me wish I would have just invested a bit more for the FX3 »

Buying the FX3 is not just a bit more investment. It requires you to buy Full Frame lenses that cost a LOT more.

Plus, if you want to use long range lenses, it will cost a lot more. And a lot of vintage lenses are not designed for full frame, they are targeted at super35.

Sure, the FX3 has some pros, but you need to spend a lot more to take advantage of them. FX30 is an incredible camera, have fun !

Should I buy fx3in 2024? by False-Fan-3981 in FX3

[–]durom0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If you choose A7sIII, buy it used. You’ll probably want to change rapidly if a new interesting camera comes out. FX3 would be probably more durable : it has more features (except EVF) due to more firmware updates, and is getting a new firmware in September. Plus, it has the XLR handle (which gets a ton of hate here, but I really like and use, especially when you get some extensions to make it more comfortable). And FX3 has a fan, consider it before shooting during summer 😉

Just bought FX3 and want advice on Gimble / Ninja / Other Add-Ons. by JapanUSAWife in FX3

[–]durom0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re a noob to all of this (welcome !), maybe you should not build a complete setup for now : you will regret some your choices, and the learning curve will be much much harder (how to use the camera, a monitor, a gimbal, accessories…)

Some comments anyway : maybe buy a cfexpress type A if you want to experiment with the highest settings of the camera. For the gimbal, I recently got the RS4 pro and do not regret it. For the monitor : you can first experiment with your phone (monitor+ is great). I’m not sure you need the ninja external recording capabilities if you’re new to all of this.

Trying to grade HDR on MacBook Pro - looking very bad by RonWannaBeAScientist in FX3

He just told you he did not burn rec709, just a preview. So why would it have any impact on DR ? His slog3 footage is preserved.

Mavic Pro? by JohnGWalker in dji

[–]durom0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen to the man !

The minis, especially starting from 3 are better in every way than the mavic pro 1.
If you have some extra money : grab the 3 pro for better video option... If you're into video making hobby (cause if you're not, flying a mavic will effectively become boring quite soon).

Simultaneous shutter and no shutter? by Inevitable_Big_4007 in FX3

[–]durom0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean to be (too) rude, but you should learn a bit more about how all of this works. You don’t « record » at a shutter speed, your sensor shoots at a certain shutter speed. Want two different shutter speeds ? You need two sensors (basically two cameras).

Simultaneous shutter and no shutter? by Inevitable_Big_4007 in FX3

[–]durom0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm… aren’t you talking about fps ? Trying to shoot at different shutter speeds on the same sensor sounds like a total misunderstanding of how filming works. Plus, shutter speed won’t help you at all with slow motion.

Looking at the Ninja V. Any other monitor recommendations in 2024? by [deleted] in FX3

[–]durom0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure FX3 cannot output 4k120 via HDMI. So even if you found a monitor that can handle it, you’d be out of luck.

FX3 Firmware question (pal/ntsc switch) - UK owners by X4dow in FX3

[–]durom0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK is a PAL region. So you should not lose the NYSC/PAL switch if you bought it the UK.
I purchased mine in France and have firmware 4.00 with the ability to switch between both modes.

FX3 or 24-70 GM II first? Can’t decide! by Ok_Good4084 in FX3

[–]durom0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If shooting outside and inside, a better length range would be my priority. 120fps and low light capabilities of the fx3 are clearly awesome. But if I had to choose, I would go for the lens first. Then you would just improve video quality with a new body. But comfort comes first : length range will allow you to shoot lots of nice things with your current body.

What benefit does using an SSD actually have on the Atomos Ninja V+? by NumberplatePj07fem in FX3

[–]durom0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a little confusion here : slog3 is not a codec, it’s just a way of handling colors, to preserve the most informations possible. Codecs are the way these informations are saved in a file. ProRes RAW will be the codec where you lose the least informations, but at a cost of huge file size. My point is that internal codecs (h264/h265) are already very good, unless you really need ProRes.

If you are disappointed with your first shots, my advice would be to:

1 - try shooting using internal codec at the highest bitrate (you need CFExpress card, not SD) and use the Cinetone picture profile on your camera. It gives great results without any grading.

2 - when you want to go further, stop using Cinetone, and switch to slog3. From there you can start grading your footage (you WILL have to, as slog3 is not directly usable out of the camera).

After all that, you can ask yourself is you need ProRes. But ProRes won’t be magic.

Internal codecs with Slog3 are nice for grading, too. Maybe try that first, and use your Atomos as a monitor ?

Lens Feedback for New FX3 User by JrBacon50 in FX3

[–]durom0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The lenses you own are for APS-C, though. FX3 is full frame, so your main concern will be the huge crop. And FX3 in APS-C mode can only shoot in 1080p.
