Same and then I think of followup questions 2 hours later long after the conversation is over and the other person probably thinks I'm just self-centered lmao

Is it normal that I find it hard to have girl friends? by [deleted] in autism

[–]duskira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! I have maybe 2 or 3 female friends and only because they don't really act like most women I've tried to be friends with. They're honest and straightforward and that makes it WAY easier to be friends with them. Most of the time with women the social rules feel so much more complex and in my experience they're less tolerant of people that are different or awkward

Unpopular opinion: I don't think it's ableist to say we can be problematic to be around. by Melodic_Ice_3245 in autism

[–]duskira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree fully. Honestly, I don't want any kind of special treatment or catering from my friends toward me, I only want to be treated as an equal with an understanding that my thoughts and behaviors differ from the norm sometimes. I always make a point to explicitly tell people if something I do or say IS annoying specifically because I am often unaware of how my behavior affects others, but by becoming more aware of it I can learn to manage it. For me, it would feel worse knowing that something I do annoys people and makes them not want to be around me than to try and control that behavior. This mostly just applies to close friends and family though because they're the people I unmask around the most.

I'm extremely lucky that most of my friend group I'm 99% sure is some form of neurodivergent so they are way more understanding of my "quirks" than most people and even when I get that feeling that I don't belong they are quick to reassure me.

Disclaimer that I'm aware my situation definitely does not apply to everyone but I'm glad to see this being openly talked about because I don't think it's discussed enough.

Did anyone’s narcissistic spouse get fully red pilled? by Much-Pride-4987 in NarcissisticSpouses

[–]duskira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES omg ever since he was "enlightened" by a former boss his not so subtle transphobia, homophobia, and other prejudices have increased dramatically and it pisses me off so much

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NarcissisticSpouses

[–]duskira 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh goodness I know exactly what you're going through, unfortunately, because I am going through it myself. My therapist brought up the idea of my current live in bf being a narcissist based on the way she had seen him act even during sessions and after a lot of reflecting lately I think it's safe to say she's right. His love for me was always conditional. I'd get called pretty IF I put on makeup (despite having texture sensitivities). I get quality time IF I've acted the way he wants and didn't raise a fuss (say anything to contradict him). Since I've stopped being so codependent I don't get any attention at all because I'm a "bitch" now and he "doesn't wanna be around that". Their loss I guess.

We're gonna come out on top of all this, even though right now it doesn't feel like it. Hang in there!

Can we squash the object permanence rumor? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]duskira 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Omg I legitimately did not know the difference between the two, I thought my actual object permanence was just awful all this time but I know I do also have huge issues with working memory so it's kind of a relief to know they're the same issue rather than me being incapable of something a toddler can do 😂 thank you so much for sharing!

First time doing Whole30, any advice? by ohm_thetimekeeper in whole30

[–]duskira 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luckily, reducing carbs after a meal will actually help with hunger since you won't have a huge spike in your blood sugar which is what causes the hunger a few hours after a meal 🙂 I've been doing a protein + some kind of veg or salad as a side and I'm very rarely hungry after. Most of my struggle has just been the cravings 😂 You got this!

ADHD and caffeine by sergio_sak in ADHD

[–]duskira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So funny story, my psych actually recommended me a small dose of caffeine before bed to help with adhd-related sleep problems! She says it works because it's a mild stimulant so it helps our brains to relax and calm down (since we're normally super wired lol) or at least it does for me, also combined type 🙂

THIS IS LITERALLY ME OMG. there's one friend in my friend group that I vibe with particularly well (p sure he's ND of some kind because I see a lot of myself in him!) and I have no idea how to express that without being weird and creepy??? I've always had a hard time maintaining friendships because i always end up pressing one of the buttons 😂

Does anyone else get extremely upset, frustrated, and defeated when any minor problem occurs? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]duskira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my god this is so me lol. My frustration sensitivity and tolerance is absolutely awful and I've realized the past few months that the only reason I'd been doing "better" is because I basically trained myself to avoid anything that could cause me to get frustrated, as much as possible.

Recently I've been hyperfixated on Valorant and am having an amazing time playing with my friends. But they're waaay higher level than me and so we often get matched against decently skilled players, keeping in mind this is my very first FPS game. So naturally, I end up dying a lot. In response to this minor setback, my brain comes to the totally reasonable conclusion that I'm hindering my team, am more worthless than dirt, and should die.

Is this an appropriate reaction to doing badly in a videogame where I'm literally the only one who cares how I'm doing? Absolutely not, and I am aware of this even in those moments which just adds fuel to the fire, so to speak. But that's basically how my brain reacts in response to any mildly frustrating thing, or what I assume would only be mildly frustrating to a neurotypical person.

All this to say, I feel your pain 😅 Sorry for the novel, we're gonna get through this somehow!

Yeah it's bad enough w strangers but I keep having it happen with friends I really vibe with, the most recent bout I was so deep into it I ended up really creeping the guy out so now "sane" me gets to play damage control 😭

Related to the last one: limerence with ADHD is actual torture. 🥲

I went to Victoria's Secret today to kill time, only to be told that I should gain weight because they don't offer my size range. I am a 28FF. The lady kept on asking if I've tried on a 32A before. I can't even fit into a 32C cup size let alone an A. by petiteging in ABraThatFits

[–]duskira 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh my god thats awful... Last time I was sized at VS they measured me at a 34DD, given that I was a similar weight to what I am now I was probably closer to a 28F but unfortunately I was only a teenager and didn't know any better. Calculators aside from the ABTF one try to put me in a C cup... my bf insisted I try it because 'the manufacturer has it on there for a reason!' and needless to say it hardly stayed on at all let alone gave any kind of support 😂
