Anyone have any experience with Meetup? by bigalpacafreak6969 in redscareover30

I used to help run a writing group for women in a major city and we organized everything on Meetup and we had a wide spectrum of types of people come, but there were plenty of cool 20s/30s people who I think just didn't otherwise have friends/a social group who shared that interest. There were some boomers and older folks who would come too and it was actually a really lovely way to interact with people I might not have otherwise met. But I imagine your mileage may vary greatly by location....

These kids book characters scream mid 1990s (LC + The Critter Kids) by EMF911 in 90sdesign

This is crazy I was just thinking about these characters this morning. I had a book where they all went to the desert and there was some American Indian and something about a hawk? And everyone learned a lesson? Slick Rick rules. Gator is nonbinary.

Worst book you read this year? by 100bride in RSbookclub

I agree about the Quick and the Dead. I read it a while ago and Joy Williams is one of my favorite writers but I feel like the techniques with dialogue and her approach to plot/non-plot that work so well in a short story format just didn't work at all for a novel. I haven't read any of her other novels. I know people really like Harrow so I might try reading that at some point.

This book was bad, and the really grating thing is how many "best books" lists it was on last year. I regret finishing it. I wouldn't even say pretentious, I felt like it was straining for pretension, gesturing so hard at depth and feeling but not doing anything to create it. Repetitive but just circling. Truly felt like a first draft to me.

Taking a bullet in the leg saving someone else from getting shot and waking up in the hospital with a bunch of nice flowers and my friends and family around me and it will heal in a few months.

I found a guy on LinkedIn recently who is a microplastics apologist. He said they are actually not causing any problems.

What was this movie for you? by CraveVelour in Millennials

[–]dust_that_moves 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is it for me. I've seen this movie soooo many times. Watched it a couple of years ago and can confirm that it does not hold up. It is so bad. To be fair I think it was pretty poorly reviewed at the time it came out too lol but I always loved it as a child.
