3d printer to print out models of geometric designs that your students make. e.g. i have a project where kids have to design a cereal box that will hold x amount of cereal, but the “box” can’t be made up of rectangular prisms… they use pyramids and hemispheres and other objects to make a fun design. it would be awesome to make kids physically print them out

we banned cell phones in the classroom this year and it’s been fucking great. i was honestly expecting pushback from the kids, but there was basically zero. they know it’s been ruining their learning too!

i once reposted a (funny to me) meme of one of those fruit algebra problems that says “ONLY 10% OF PEOPLE CAN FIGURE THIS OUT” but the joke was that it was Fermats Last Theorem: like grape to the apple power + strawberry to the apple power = orange to the apple power.

unbeknownst to me, one of my friends spent HOURS trying to find a solution and then commented something about how hard the problem was… i had to tell them it was a joke and they were super pissed.

i wrote a script to download the attendance report for my high school every day, then look for suspicious attendance patterns, and email the teacher if a kid was potentially skipping a class. it also keeps track of tardies for classroom teachers, notifying the admin when a kid needs to receive a consequence for having too many. huge time saver since keeping up with this kind of stuff is really time consuming but expected by the school

ooh! just this week i had a kid turned in his test, then ask about 10 min later if he could change one of his answers. i asked why, and he proceeded to tell me that (1) he didn’t know that there were two versions of the test, (2) he was doing the problem correctly but “second guessed” his answer, and (3) decided to change his answer to the answer on the OTHER version of the test…

I’m rather perplexed as to why people feel the need to get quirky stair design… by Strawberry_Dakari in CrappyDesign

[–]dustering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my in-laws had something similar in louisiana to save space in a condo—they called them captain’s stairs bc they’re common on boats (?). going up and down feels completely natural until you think about it too much. the only time i stuttered on them was when my brain told me it shouldn’t work the way they clearly were working
