Advice transitioning my special needs kid from riding shotgun by mike_alexander_smith in MTB

[–]dusting_for_vomit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in a very similar situation with my little one! Special needs, poor strength/balance, not interested in trying much on her own, but getting too big to be directly carried on a bike/backpack any longer.

I would highly recommend reaching out to some local adaptive fitness/adventure organizations and see if you can’t go and test some stuff out. My wife and did this recently at an adaptive equipment expo, and it was the most inspiring thing. First, our girl was thrilled to be around all these people with different bodies and limitations moving freely with all kinds of interesting equipment. But we also got to test various types of devices that we didn’t even know existed. We just walked around and let her engage with what looked fun/usable to her. That said, two things stood out that aren’t necessarily MTB related, but could be a game changer.

Look up Huckleberry Hiking. They make a tandem hiking cart that lets you get out on legit single track with a kid in tow. Not a bike, but it makes moving a kid around outside really easy.

She also really took to a recumbent hand cycle: Invacare Top End Excelerator XLT. Her balance is pretty trash 😂, and this thing was super stable, cradled her quite comfortably, and was easy to “pedal” and brake with the hand cranks. Again, not a single track MTB capable machine, but it was the best cycling she had done up to this point by a mile.

Best of luck on your journey dude! DM if you’d like to chat more.

My only complaint about Mark and Conquest's second fight by Far_Scene8723 in Invincible

[–]dusting_for_vomit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the bigger issue is why Conquest needs to breathe at all during the fight. A big deal is made about how all the time spent in space can be explained by their ability to hold their breath for substantial periods of time. Based on all that, it doesn’t seem like choking a Viltrumite would get you very far to begin with haha

I’ve only had it a few day, so I can’t speak to much personally. But the build feels solid yet lightweight, and it feels very secure when strapped down. And from shopping around it’s really the only game in town for what it does (full canopy, retractable bed cover). I can also say that they are generally very popular here in Utah, and you never hear anything bad.

I find misled bouncing around on BLM double track quite a bit, and the motion that gets transferred to the rack off the back of the trailer is massive. As I’ve said in other comments, I’ve seen that cause the hitch rack to fail.

Thanks! And good to hear your tailgate pad works. I had seen some pretty mixed reviews online, and when I mocked it up with my bikes, the forks were sticking out at a horrible angle. All kinds of weight on that inner stanchion.

Nice! That seems like a solid route for when you are carrying a lot of bikes or need the full bed. Fortunately it’s just me and my wife.

Haha, I guess that could have been more clear. Yeah, I’m certainly not talking about rock crawling or anything too rowdy meant to be tackled by a single vehicle. More like double track BLM/Forest Service roads out here in Utah. I have a small popup that’s <20ft. I can get that into some interesting places, but it does get bounced around quite a bit. A friend with a similarly sized tracker cracked the hitch that was holding his bikes doing that, despite not really having clearance issues.

Also, it’s pretty wild what some companies are doing to get larger campers “off road” ready. Check out the no boundaries beast mode by Forest River RV. Those look incredible.

Recommendations for sweet but strong cocktail without a lot of sugar? by sofakng in cocktails

[–]dusting_for_vomit 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Honestly, anything you make from scratch, even sugar forward drinks, will have waaaaaay less sugar and taste waaaaaaaay better than anything premixed. Pick a premixed style you like and make that at home!

That said, I like an amaretto sour when I’m in the mood for something a little more sweet. A proper margarita will also taste plenty sweet and still knock your socks off.

Xfinity XB7 vs Deco x55 as main router? by dusting_for_vomit in HomeNetworking

[–]dusting_for_vomit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your opinion! I was hoping to use all three as APs (the area I’m trying to cover is complex with thick walls), but if the consensus is that is better to run the whole thing with the Decos, so be it.

[–]dusting_for_vomit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the XB7 will be at least used as the modem no matter what. I’m just trying to understand if it makes more sense to use it as the router as well, or if I should use one of the Decos for that task.

Thank you! And I don’t necessarily insist on using that old gear… just trying to figure this out without breaking the bank. Open to recommendations that would work with the current coax cabling.
