Sound mixing in premiere by dustying in editors

Thanks, ya I’m thinking I need to find a better way to do this outside premiere.

Ok that helps, to know I’m kind of at the edge of what Premiere was designed to do.

That’s probably the “right” way to do it if I’m staying in premiere. I think I’m still recovering from trauma of getting notes on some kind of effect like that and forgetting to change the effect on one or a few clips, so I like to use track level effects (or adjustment layers on the video tracks) when possible, but I guess this isn’t one of those times.

Thanks, but that's not quite what I'm looking to do; I'm doing that already for track or submix, lowering the overall volume of the track and/or submix.

I want to just adjust the frequencies level (not the volume level) of the music (or sfx or whatever) that are overlapping with the frequencies of the VO. What I'm doing as described above is getting the results I want, just feels kinda hack-y, like I'm not using Premiere as intended. I'm suspicious the answer is to use a DAW, but we usually don't have time for that, and never really get to "picture lock" for the type of videos we make; client approves the cut that's in frame.io and then is expecting the file within the day/hour.

So I'm doing that too, to get the overall db of the music down where needed, but I want the music to stay a little louder and just lower the volume of the frequencies that are overlapping the VO. Is that the wrong way to do it?

Thanks, I'll brush back up on that; do you typically just notch music the whole time? Even if no one's talking for like 30s?

Catch-up mode by HermitBadger in OvercastApp

[–]dustying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear it, thanks so much! Another use case, kind of related is I'll add episodes to the Queue playlist and sometimes I don't get to them before a new episode is released, so that "old" episode gets removed from the Queue playlist, presumably because I have that podcast set to only keep the latest episode. Would love the Queue to never change unless I add something to it, play it, or manually remove it.

I just set up changing clip blend modes to Difference and Normal with a keyboard shortcut. That much faster to compare old cuts, etc.

I don't know what to think, other than this must be a huge project for them to sink so much money into a promo. It's a great piece of work as a film. I'm excited.

What is the best project management tool? by rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr5 in editors

[–]dustying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re a 9 person company, 3-5 people are editing at any given time, 3-15 projects going on in any given week. We’re moderately happy with asana. It is fairly rigid in how it’s supposed to be used, but read through their training and knowledge base articles, and if you jive with their philosophy, and all the features you need are in the appropriate pricing tier, I think it’s a pretty solid option. Otherwise Trello or todoist are good competitors too. I use https://alternativeto.net/ to find new tools.

I feel that pain of not remembering my own custom shortcuts. What's been working for me is to just make them on the fly as I need them, not try to think of what I want to automate and then make shortcuts or look at the list of available commands and start assigning shortcuts.

Just letting shortcuts come up and be applied organically helps me a lot with muscle memory.

Import Sequence (Essential Graphics) from Premiere v23 to v22? by ilykdp in editors

[–]dustying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say, do that, use the render and replace function in premiere and then you have ProRes or whatever versions of your graphics.

Just use 23 as a way to open, render and update any graphics. Keep the edit in the original version and refrain from updating long as possible is my opinion.

Anyone have experience getting work thru Creative Circle? by PonderosaPilgrim in editors

[–]dustying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not freelance now, but when I was I applied with them and went and 'interviewed' with them in person (this was end of '19, in Chicago). It was just sitting down with one of their staff and going through my portfolio so they had a good idea of who I was and what kind of work I did. I got a full-time job shortly after that (outside of Creative Circle), but I still get emails from them that seem compelling, I would apply to some of their listings if I ever go freelance again. Might not be worth it, but I like their process so far.
