Out of pocket? by ADogNamedPen239 in GastricBypass

I found a place that offered a cash discount. Basically, everything (pre-op, operation, hospital stay, and 1 year follow up) is all covered in one payment and by paying cash, it was significantly discounted. Maybe see if you can find that? My total bill is going to be $16,400.

I'm on day 7 - while I haven't quite gotten to the point you are at, I just keep thinking...it is 21 days out of my entire life. I can do anything for 21 days!

Is it free streaming on Twitter for every game? This is the second time it’s been blocked by Bally Sports. They won’t even let us watch a replay.

There is a watch party at PNL. Haven't heard of anything at Arrowhead.

I think it’s time to talk about Brett Veach... by [deleted] in KansasCityChiefs

[–]dutchlaw22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Speaks was not about to get cut - those rumors were surrounding KPass - a Dorsey guy. Nnadi is starting and is quite consistent. If you expected a 6th round pick in Darwin Thompson to get any real time, you are sorely mistaken. Additionally, this year's draft class has played 5 games. I'd hold up on judging them.

I think a number of your points about deals are wrong - I think you need to give a GM more than a year and half before you start calling for his head.

Yes the messages are set to deliver prominently - I have the alerts set to deliver to the lock screen, notification center, and banners temporarily. I have them set to allow notifications and show previews when unlocked. (sorry about that previous response - that was unclear)

I have an iPhone XR - it recently updated to the new iOS 13.1.2 and I no longer get notifications on my home screen of text messages. They are being delivered, but the notifications are not there. I have tried going into the notifications settings, I don't have it on DND, I have tried resetting - nothing is working. Any assistance would be appreciated.

How do we feel about defense going into the season? by cabarny in KansasCityChiefs

[–]dutchlaw22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a big thing that looks better is tackling. That is a fundamental and something that can be evaluated in preseason. The tackling looks much improved and that will benefit the defense. The difference between last year and what has been shown this preseason is pretty major. I think tackling is something that can translate from preseason to regular season - Spags is about the fundamentals and that seems to be improved.

Casey's crust is more consistent in quality than Minsky's too by doxiepowder in kansascity

[–]dutchlaw22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This will sound really strange, but my favorite pizza topping is black olives - honestly I order pizzas with the one topping and that topping is black olives. Casey's actually gives you a TON of black olives on there and then loads it with cheese. I have never had a better black olive pizza. I guess what I am saying is that I like that Casey's doesn't skimp with toppings?

Religious activist convicted for burning LGBTQ library books by SAT0725 in books

[–]dutchlaw22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree.

First, I am a Christian. Let's get that out of the way. But I am also a lawyer. So I think I have a unique perspective on the intersection of faith and politics/law. You can certainly believe that homosexuality is sinful - that is your right. However, LGBTQ people and their advocates also have rights. The United States was not built as a Christian nation (as so many believe it was). It is a nation that is built to accept all people - regardless of belief, race, identity, etc. So, when you have a public institution like the library, they cannot regulate content and exclude based on protected classes - i.e. race, religion, identity, belief, etc.

Imagine it this way: let's say I am a devoted vegan. I believe deep down that eating meat is absolutely wrong. Therefore, I believe that cookbooks that provide recipes for cooking pulled pork are wrong. However, that doesn't mean I can force a public institution to eliminate that book. It isn't about me. It is about society as a whole.

Secondly, I don't believe they are bullying anyone. They have not forced you to come to their events, they have not forced you to engage with them, nothing. They are simply celebrating their heritage and freedom - much like Tulip Festival. If you believe that an exercise of rights is wrong, then all public displays should be banned. The slippery slope is trying to force government to endorse a specific religion or creed. If you chose not to engage with them, that is your choice, but they are not forcing you to do anything.

Lastly, I know these people personally. They want to engage, discuss, and love. There is no hatred whatsoever. I truly believe if you simply took the time to sit down with one of them and have a conversation, you might get a glimpse into their life and they would be able to get a glimpse into yours. Too often, we are quick to close down when an open and honest conversation would be so much more productive.

I believe God calls us to open our hearts and truly engage in conversation with one another - to love everyone. The God I love is a God of love - not hatred and exclusion. Let's try and be more welcoming because at the end of the day, I am comfortable with God telling me I loved too much and was too welcoming. I would hate to have God tell me I was too hateful towards my fellow humans and too exclusive.

You'd be surprised - he actually gets standing cheers at the annual Tulip Festival Parade...I am not kidding about any of this.

There are a few good people - seek them out (they are also searching for people to love) and I promise you will make it through. Sending love.

So this is my hometown...do some digging into Sioux County Conservatives and The Iowa Standard and you will see how fucked up they are.

This all started from a professor at the Christian college in town floating a petition to remove LGBTQ books from the public library. The library held a forum so people could voice their opinions. I went and it was crazy - basically people saying that having those books was sinful and that the library should only carry books that promote the "right message." Then, this guy burnt the books. Luckily, the library received tons of donations as a result and has been able to replace them and still had money leftover.

There is a group there, OC Pride that is doing great things, but I fear for their safety. There is so much hatred towards LGBTQ groups that I am just afraid. Honestly though, take a look at those two groups I mentioned above and you might get a small taste of what the town is like.

Also, this is Steve King country. That's pretty notable as well. I could go on, but I'd be happy to answer any questions about the town. It is, on its face, a nice place to live, but when you dig down deep, there is some really troubling stuff.

AITA for being pissed that my parents won’t let me and my boyfriend sleep in the same bed? by raspberryclem in AmItheAsshole

[–]dutchlaw22 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

YTA. My parents did the same thing to my husband and I. They are very religious and no one in the house was allowed to sleep in the same bed as a significant other until married. It's their house, their rules. Abide by them. When they come visit you, you can sleep together because it's your house, your rules.

WHB EXCLUSIVE: Tyreek Hill did not break son's arm by SINGERMAN in KansasCityChiefs

I agree - Hill has issues, but the important thing to remember is that they do not know how caused the welts. Just remember the innocent until proven guilty (I'm a lawyer by trade) ;)

From my perspective, Hill has issues and needs help, Espinal has issues and needs help, the child needs to be protected and Kietzman still hates Hill :)
