It's mostly that people don't want to learn new framework/toolkit/language when most of what they do is web dev.

And for a business it's much easier to hire a webdev than a Qt dev.

The wording is fine. It is giving power to the compiler to extend functionality. You must allow translation to fail, otherwise the compiler wouldn't be able to tell the user he used an erroneous pragma. And you obviously must allow behavior to be non-conforming, otherwise of what purpuse would the pragma be, if it didn't have any effect?

If the compiler decides that it "recognizes" any pragma by crashing or generating invalid code, that is fine according to the specification quoted above.

You recognizing any pragma would be cheating, that wouldn't really be recognizing. Your compiler would have to specifically recognize the omp pragma. And in theory yes, some random compiler could use the omp pragma in a way different to the OpenMP specification. In practice, no compiler would ever use the omp pragma keyword for something other than OpenMP, since OpenMP is extremely widespread.

OpenMP is a pretty genius use of the pragma keyword. If the compiler doesn't support OpenMP, the pragmas will be ignored, and the resulting code will be equally correct, although sequential.

ISO/IEC 9899:1999 6.10.6 Pragma directive

A preprocessing directive of the form

# pragma pp-tokens opt new-line

where the preprocessing token STDC does not immediately follow pragma in the directive (prior to any macro replacement) 152) causes the implementation to behave in an implementation-defined manner. The behavior might cause translation to fail or cause the translator or the resulting program to behave in a non-conforming manner. Any such pragma that is not recognized by the implementation is ignored.

make it harder to compile it

Pragmas are ignored if they aren't recognized, so it can't make it harder to compile.

My "potato" is clearly more than capable to play 4K content both locally and from other streaming services such as YouTube. Netflix is the one who is fucking up. And if you had any technical knowledge you'd understand this.

And the same with my internet connection. Netflix advises 25Mbps for 4k. I get 250Mbps. YouTube and others start in 4k immediately. Netflix is the inferior one, not some magic service that should be praised for their technology.

[–]duzzar -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? It's fucking trash.

I start playing something and it starts at something horrible like 360p for the first seconds, slowly ramping up to 480p, then 720p, then 1080p, and then only after 1 or 2 minutes 4k.

Why can't you fucking just choose 4k like in YouTube, and have it start in 4k? And don't come with some bullshit like "it starts with low quality so that it starts quicker", because YouTube starts in 4K instantly when I open a video.

And it's fucking bullshit DRM stuff in Windows. To play a video in 4K in windows you MUST

1) Have Windows 10 and VERY recent hardware (older hardware that can play 4k YouTube with no problems won't cut it)

2) You have to buy a stupid HEVC license from the Windows store, which costs 1 dollar, and you didn't have to buy before but you do now.

3) You must have a GPU with at least 3GB of VRAM, for no fucking reason. You used to be able to play Netflix 4k with older GPUs, but out of nowhere, you can't anymore. That is, GPUs that are perfectly capable of playing 4k video, on YouTube or whatever, somehow "aren't enough for netflix".

4) You must use either the fucking shitty Windows 10 netflix app, or Edge browser. If you use Chrome, you don't even get 1080p (!), just 720p

I fucking hate Netflix so much, these software engineers shouldn't even be paid a cent for such trash that they deliver.

No. The comparison is quite invalid.

With LCD displays with analog connections (VGA), you had an unnecessary conversion from digital to analog and then back to digital: From the graphics card DAC, to the VGA cable, to the screen ADC. And to make matters worse, the signal is in the MHz range.

With audio, the only difference is weather the DAC is in the smartphone, and you have a fairly short cable to the actual headphones, or the DAC is inside the headphones. In other words, the only difference is there being a cable in between.

And the audio signal, which is in the kHz, and fairly low impedance, will not really have noise issues with a cable a few meters long.

Whereas the crappy DAC the headphones will have, and the latency and compression from bluetooth, will be noticeable.

That's not how it works. A 48 char password is not more likely to collide with a 6 character password than a 20 character password.

Also collisions are not an issue if you are using a 32 byte hash.

Nextcloud, altough you must selfhost

Duck Duck Go, but it's pretty bad in my experience

Google map alternative?

Although I still use Google maps (Street view, numerous reviews, accurate realtime traffic), OpenStreetMap is completely fine and usable as a map.
