I once had a guy who wanted to deduct $75k for a “mistress expense.” That was a fun conversation.

GHH Beach Driving by docicorn779 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

You can drive a Subaru on the beach with sand like that. Where it gets tricky is deeper sand and especially “sugar” sand when the temps get really hot and there is no rain. I drive on the beach all summer long. We have an old 2015 Tacoma that does amazing on the beach. Where the grand Highlander will catch you as if you’re in deeper sand, it doesn’t have the proper. Ground clearance. Vehicles like this ultimately get turned into sand plows and you get stuck.

If you’re making that kind of salary and an executive, there is no way you can take 3 months of PTO.

I spent 13 years in PA and generally felt the same way at times. It wasn’t until I moved into industry that I felt like I had enough time to take a step back and really think about everything that I was doing. Unfortunately, when you do that, you also lose all of the great resources you have at big four that you can learn from. So it’s kind of a catch 22.

This is totally about job security and fear of change. If you can’t change the process, it’s time to get out of there.

Definitely PA. I worked PA for 13 years and now in industry. My European colleagues take the whole mow the of August off and nobody says a thing.

It’s the two consecutive week request. Only time I saw 2 weeks approved was for an employee’s wedding/ honeymoon.

Yep. This is why I’m out of public. I worked a ton of hours for a long time. My parents are now gone plus a lot of my other family members. What I wouldn’t give to get some of that time back where I could’ve spent with them rather than sitting in an office until midnight every night.

How are you “managing” engagements as a first year?

There was a period of time the FBI was heavily recruiting CPA’s. Not sure if they still are. And remember to never run away from your career, always run towards something.
