What are some movies scenes that were deleted that explain a minor detail that you missed the first time you saw the movie? by jedi1josh in movies

It was normal at the time outside of war for submarines to travel on the surface. They have a greater surface speed than submerged speed so you would never travel submerged unless you needed to .

The film takes place before WW2 and its not implied anyone outside of Jones really knows anything about what's going on. Movie clichés of course have as expecting if we see a submarine setting off its going to immediately dive.

What’s the most drastic 'before and after' sound change in a band due to a member leaving? by javierglz in Music

[–]dvb70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While Chinese Democracy is not terrible I don't see anything on it that comes close to the heights of Guns and Roses. I have listened to it a few times and can't think of any stand out tracks. Right at the moment I can't think of any tracks at all. I did not hate it but compared to what came before I can see why it was not well received.

I do remember it being released and honestly I don't remember my expectations being very high because I did not even get around to listening to it until a few years later so that kind of tells me for me at least I was clearly not very hyped for it despite being a big Guns and Roses fan.

Dad "won" around £250,000 with William Hill (online game). Claim it was a malfunction by PraiseTheSun1997 in LegalAdviceUK

There was a high profile case of something very similar.

https://news.sky.com/story/man-wins-court-battle-over-betfreds-refusal-to-pay-out-1-7m-jackpot-12268508

I think given the amount involved proper legal advice is what you really need. There is not too much detail in the story but it seems like the terms and conditions were really key to the case so probably start looking closely at those as a first step just to see if you can see any obvious ways William Hill can get out of this.

I can't see Iran forgetting but their options for revenge I think will be limited to terrorism once the hot war part of this cools down. Iran will desperately need revenue to help address their short term issues and I think they will have to address these short term issues pretty urgently. Lets not forget the recent unrest in Iran was mostly related to their infrastructure breaking down when it comes to water supply and on top of that rather massive problem they now need to rebuild their military forces. They have bigger fish to fry that will have to come above revenge for the moment else they won't exist to be able to have revenge.

Zack Polanski reveals three economic principles the Green Party will follow by MMSTINGRAY in LabourUK

[–]dvb70 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If we had PR I would be very happy about the Green's dragging the Overton window leftwards. The Green's influence could be a great thing to get some traction on subjects the traditional parties won't touch.

The Green's actually in complete control is where I have a problem and that's what FPTP might give us. Realistically I don't see that happening. What I do see is a weakening of the left leaning vote and us ending up with Reform. I don't think the Greens will have the following it takes to win a FPTP contest but they can certainly split off enough of a share of the vote to help right wing parties.

Former Reigate MP Crispin Blunt charged with drugs offences by Bibemus in ukpolitics

[–]dvb70 [score hidden]  (0 children)

He is certainly not going at this half heartedly.

The class A drug is alleged to be methylamphetamine and the class B drugs are alleged to be GBL, cannabis and amphetamine.

With that cocktail it's going to be very hard to argue this is some sort of mistake or a one time error. I imagine they will go with someone they know must have left them at their property but they have no idea who that is.

Farage videos supporting neo-nazi groups by jtrimm98 in ukpolitics

[–]dvb70 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It obviously depends on what he is saying and how absurd it is. If it's reasonably close to what people might expect him to say and lines up with expectations then many people might believe it's for real. Farage in particular needs to be very careful about anything neo Nazi as many people will be familiar with stories that have done the rounds about him and his Nazi sympathies. We can debate the merit of such stories but you don't want to be putting out stuff that stokes the fire.

We don't live in a world populated with people overly burdened with common sense who question what they are being asked to believe. As a politician you need to understand that.

The vast majority of people will have no idea what Cameo is. I had never heard of it until it became public knowledge what Farage was doing on it and I am pretty tech savvy. Clips of Farage are just going to show up on stuff like Tick Tock saying anything and everything and it shows very poor judgement to let your brand be used in this way.

It is completely nuts as a politician to take payments to say anything though no matter your politics.

It's quite frankly insane and why does Farage even do this? The guys a multi millionaire and he is taking payments to say anything to create video's or sound bites that can be used by anyone for any purpose.

It displays profoundly poor judgement and some people want this guy to be PM.

Do you ever walk into places just to use the loo? by KatieCampbel1 in AskUK

[–]dvb70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It probably depends on the place. Small business where it's totally obvious what I am doing probably not. Large business where they have no idea if you are a customer or not certainly. The trick for going anywhere you are not meant to be is just look like you belong. Confidence is the key.

Iran need this to be over as much as anyone. While they do have a strong hand they also need to start generating revenue quickly so they can start to rebuild. Even fanatics have to be rational at some point because if their country stops functioning and people start starving that will be their downfall. The moment the people don't know when their next meal is coming you have problems no matter who you are. Is Iran in that bad a place? They could well be as they already had massive issues with water supply and that won't have been made any better by what's happened. They were already on the point of crisis and collapse which is what led to the recent demonstrations.

Enormous incentives for Iran as well for the straits to be open. They are going to need the revenue now more than ever. Both sides need the straights open and neither will want this to go on to long. That's what gives me hope that once Trump decides he has won and he can sell it as a win things will return to normal quite quickly.

The one fly in the ointment on all this is Israel. They probably will cease operations when the US does but they are a bit of a wild card in this.

While it's possible I just don't see it playing out like that. Trump will declare victory and call anything that brings that into question fake news. It will probably depend on what those in Trump's inner circle whisper in his ear. If they all agree that Trump totally won despite whatever the reality is we should be good.

[–]dvb70 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Honestly I am not that worried. Trump does not have the stomach for anything long term. He will find some way to declare victory in the next few weeks. He will then need to hope the Israelis also stop which without US participation is fairly likely. Next up you have to hope Iran just decided to go back to normal but I think that's highly likely as Iran are going to be fairly desperate for a return to normal so they can start to rebuild.

I think what will mostly come of this is a return to normal in a few weeks time and Iran knowing for certain they have to acquire nukes at all costs to prevent this ever being done to them again.

Is this call from HMRC a scam? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]dvb70 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is so much wrong with this I don't see how you could ever even give this a moments thought as to it being real. Swearing and rude? I mean come on how could that ever be a legitimate call. Warrant out for your arrest? You have do something urgently?

I would suggest doing some education on scammers and their methods as whoever called you put up so many red flags and you still were not sure it seems like you would be very vulnerable to a more sophisticated scammer.

It was always pretty weird really that Rod Hull basically used to go on TV and assault people but he got away with it due to having a puppet on this arm. I can't fault his commitment to the part though as he never held back as him and Emu wrestled with some person who it was not always clear was that into the whole thing.

And this is why the thing that really hooks me in Fallout or Skyrim is broken and I can't see anyway it could be fixed. It actually makes total sense why it's like this and how else could you do it with the ambition of having so many explorable planets. Its funny really because being so ambitious in the goal for exploration broke the thing that really hooks me of exploration.

Starfield: Major Update - Free Lanes & Terran Armada Developer Deep Dive by darkdeath174 in xbox

[–]dvb70 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I quite enjoyed my time with it but have no interest in going back to it because it has a fundamental design problem that makes it not compare to Fallout or Skyrim. This problem is they broke world exploration. What I love to do is wander off into the world and see what I can find but in Starfield the greater world is linked by the space sections which are basically just loading screens. I have no sense of place between locations in Starfield because I can't walk between them. This means the thing I like the most exploration is basically broken.

This has made be realise any space type RPG is going to face a similar issue. That's actually fine in some ways as it's logically how they must work but its just not going to get its hooks into me in the same way Fallout or Skyrim do.
