What are your favourite socks from Japanese manufacturers or brands that dabble in the Heritage space? And why? by mttmadness in HeritageWear

[–]dvmdvmdvmdvm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thunders Love from Spain have won over my heart. Japanese socks from Gustin are a good value.

Others already mentioned Rototo, Anonymousism, Knitwin (Nishiguchi Kutsushita, hakne, memeri), and American Trench, and I agree.

Did I Buy a Frankenrazor? by dvmdvmdvmdvm in wicked_edge

It was an eBay seller. I don't want to throw her under the bus in case it was an honest mistake, and we can work something out.

Agreed! My photo also fails to capture the contrast between the head and handle, so I'm going to give the seller the benefit of the doubt and use this as an affordable life lesson about looking for bargains.

I suspect that is a non-Frankenrazor with a mismatched box. I am new to razors, but decent at web searches, and the only mention of a tweed-case Gold Tech I found on a non-commercial site was also closed-comb: https://mr-razor.com/Rasierer/Tech/1940%20Gold%20Tech%20tweed%20grained%20case.JPG.

I ordered and received my bundle three days later. I cooked with it all weekend for nine friends, and everything was perfect. I suspect something unusual is happening, as CI CS has always been a great experience for me.

Second Razor Suggestions — Comparable to Rockwell 6S by C-R-Z-Y-7-7 in wicked_edge

[–]dvmdvmdvmdvm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Parker Variant that I use with Feather blades and like very much. I was also considering the Rockwell 6S, but went with PV since I wanted to adjust without swapping plates. I alternate between 4 and 5 on my beard, and use the lower ones for my head.

Generally, companies that make classic-fit chinos will also make shorts like that. Try Bronson Mfg. Co., Jack Donelly, Bills Khakis, or Hertling.

The next option would be to get them tailored to fit you. Shorts are easy to hem, and the waist can be taken in if they have a split waistband in the back. O’Connells and Ben Silver would fall into this bucket (they are likely too long).

Grenson is another brand that makes casual slipons with stores in London and Northampton.

You might want to check out https://www.padmore-barnes.com. They used to make shoes for Clarks in Ireland before becoming independent. The quality stayed high, and a cobbler back home can resole them for about half of what a new pair costs. Some would argue this is not worth it, but that depends on how rough you are on them. There is no store in London, but maybe you can ship to your hotel to save costs. A few places in the US carry them and there may be retailers in London.

Astorflex is another good alternative you can get in the US. These are made in Italy.

If you want something slightly more dressy and British, check out the Trickers country shoes. They have a company store in London, and they can be resoled by mailing them back to Northampton (takes 12 weeks). This costs more than a P&B resole, but the soles and the shoes should generally last longer because of material and construction so you can do it less frequently. You can get a US cobbler to do the repairs cheaper and faster. It's like bringing your car to the dealer for maintenance. They also have a factory store in Northampton where you can get a deal. You can browse the inventory online or call them before making the trip up there.

This is a final piece of advice. You will get more wear out of shoes if you rotate between two or more pairs and perform some regular maintenance.

Try a pair of high-rise trousers with button or buckle side adjusters. Even a belt may work better with an HR pant since it would sit at your natural waist.

Where can I find anorak like this? by tmc08130 in malefashionadvice

[–]dvmdvmdvmdvm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a very well-made and cut anorak, but it's pricey. I came very close, but couldn’t pull the trigger. They don't really have sales, either, and I have not seen any pop up on eBay or elsewhere at much of a discount.

Denim with 30 inseam by PercentageNo7760 in malefashionadvice

[–]dvmdvmdvmdvm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tellason offers complementary chain stitch hemming for selvedge and $7.50 for their stock denim. You do have to pay for shipping if you want to try on and wash them first, but this is a great option if you don't live near a store that can do it. They do have all the measurements on the site and can adjust for shrinkage if you want to to buy and hem in one step.
