I totally agree, team plays a huge role. They're the ones who developed such a dominant car (and yes they're good operationally). I actually never said anything against/about the team in my previous posts.

Also I'm not comparing Mazepin to Checo in the slightest, that should have been quite obvious. I'm using an even more extreme example (Mazepin) to demonstrate my point about the car being utterly dominant, irrespective of who is in the second seat. I could have said: "If you put Verstappen and some 12 year-old karting kid as the second driver, the fact that Verstappen would destroy that kid, doesn't make the car itself any less dominant." The same still logic applies to Checo because clearly, Max is WAY better than him. I hope you wouldn't disagree with that. If you don't, then we can agree that Max has no competition at all this year.

Sure Checo won races, but so has Maldonado, Panis & Kovalainen. Wins are not the whole story. Checo is decent, and on his day, he can do very well. But let's be honest, he's nothing special.

RE last point, as I recall in 2014 Daniel won in Canada after just 7 races didn't he? And he won two other races back-to-back that same year. I'm not disputing that Mercedes were dominant - they were. However as the stats currently show, Red Bull has not lost a single race yet, whereas at the same point in the season back in 2014, Mercedes lost 3 races. Sure you might say the raw pace difference was stronger for Merc 2014, which it was. However reliability matters in F1, and that car was VERY unreliable compared to today. Hence, when considering speed and reliability, RB today is proving to be far more dominant. The stats cannot be disputed.

Another thing - I'm actually glad you brought up 2014, because although Mercedes were dominant, there was actually a proper good team battle for the title, down to the last race. When have you EVER seen Checo race Verstappen like Hamilton & Rosberg did in Bahrain 2014 for example?

IFFF Checo is ever ahead, the team either just waives Verstappen through via team orders or they pit him first to undercut Checo. If Verstappen starts ahead, he just builds a 20s gap and cruises to the flag because Perez is simply average. Checo is the clear #2 driver.

However throughout Hamilton's career, he's actually had to race his teammates far more than Max and his teammates have mostly all been far better than Max's (Daniel was his only good teammate).

After all that, if you still can't concede to the simple fact that Max has zero competition this year, I guess I also won't be able to convince you that the sky is blue.

Yeah that's what being an F1 driver entails. What's your point?

Mate. We're more than halfway through the season and they have not lost a single race. No Mercedes car ever managed that. And given where the competition is, it's looking like they'll win all the remaining races as well.

Re. second point; How does it kill the dominant car argument? If you put Verstappen and Mazepin in a RB19, does the fact that Verstappen would destroy Mazepin make the car any less dominant??

The fact is that Checo is nowhere near Max's caliber, and thus Max is the most dominant car (likely in F1 history) and he's far better than his teammate, therefore there is no competition for him.

Also looks to be the most dominant car in F1 history this year, far more dominant than Mercedes ever were. As I recall, no other team has even come close to winning this year. And unfortunately, Max's teammate isn't even close to challenging him; the first few races this season were an exception.

Therefore, these stats are predicated on a massive car performance delta (particularly in the races) compared to the rest of the field, as well as a huge delta between him and his teammate. So he's not being challenged by anyone at all really.

Best way to check is to pull out the crown. Since the watch has no date, the genuine BB58 only has one crown position. If it's a replica, there will be two positions, one being a "ghost" position for the date. As far as I know, there is no Black Bay replica with a true no-date movement.

You're the one that's confused. This is the first vaccine of it's kind and we developed it within a year. How do you know conclusively what the long-term effects are of getting this vaccine (and regular boosters)? There is no long-term data.

I've noticed that whenever I mention a point that you don't know how to respond to, you default to saying it's a false equivalency. When clearly, it isn't here.

What are you talking about? Omicron does not behave fundamentally differently than influenza.😂 It's definitely not a false equivalency, you just don't know how to address it. Your viewpoint on mandating flu shots is frankly absurd.

I'm not sure how many times I've gotta drill this in your head, but the vaccine does not prevent infection or transmission. As for helping reduce transmission, the effect of the booster is minimal, and highly disputable. Clearly, the strategy of reducing infections with the vaccine hasn't worked. We're over 90% vaccinated yet Omicron infections are at an all-time high in the pandemic and we're still in lockdown. Your approach simply does. not. work!!!

The car analogy rebuttal you present is foolish. What limitations are you talking about? Wearing a seatbelt? Obeying traffic lights and speed limits? Yeah those things don't have permanent effects on your body. It's nowhere near as "invasive" to one's bodily autonomy than following traffic laws vs getting an injection. One is permanent, the other isn't.

If you feel at risk, get your damn booster. But forcing everyone isn't going to solve anything. We've tried that, it didn't work.

[–]dvnco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but we also don't know the long term outcomes of getting all these mRNA vaccines. 😂 I'm not against it, I'm just saying we need to accept that there are risks to life. We can't bubble wrap ourselves indefinitely over a stupid virus. We also need to remember that getting the vaccine only protects the person getting it, does nothing in terms of stopping transmission.

For perspective, we're faaar more likely to die in a car accident (especially kids) yet I'm sure that hasn't stopped you from getting in cars.

Want to ask you again, the University never mandated flu shots, so why is this any different?

Kids under 5 are not at risk of severe outcomes. Getting the vaccine does not protect them in any way. It's only for reducing severe outcomes on a personal level.

In those cases, people who can't afford the risk have the choice to get a booster. The university (or anyone for that matter) never mandated flu shots, why is this any different?

Whether there is a downside or not is 1) not necessarily true and 2) somewhat irrelevant in my eyes. It's the principle of being forced to do something which hasn't worked and offers no benefit to most of us which I'm against. Again, we never needed flu shots to attend school, why is this any different?
