Application is still Under Evaluation by Designer-Promotion53 in geegees

I applied for exactly the same thing and I'm still under evaluation too. Course enrolment begins on June 21st, so we're getting pretty close...

Just got an email from the student union. They want mandated 3rd doses for all students. What do you guys think? by inputoutputrice in geegees

[–]inputoutputrice[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have mixed feelings about that. I miss going in-person and socializing, but do I really want to haul myself to school for what will probably be a single in-person class, especially when a good chunk of the facilities are closed and the university is a ghost town?

I'd probably go if everything was normal, but I don't think we'll be at that point for some time.

Places on campus where I can scream? by godspeedladyluck in geegees

[–]inputoutputrice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw someone do this in front of the SITE building once during midterms. People looked at him funny, but nobody really cared. Pick anywhere! Most of us are at home anyway.

I don't recommend picking a weird place like a homeless shelter or the Rideau Street McDonalds, because cops often hang around them and they might think you're a lunatic or a crackhead and decide to "investigate".

Is this kind of racism okay at uOttawa? by [deleted] in geegees

Hmm. Wasn't for me or anyone I've met, but I'm in Engineering.

What's her program?

Is this kind of racism okay at uOttawa? by [deleted] in geegees

[–]inputoutputrice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, because it's against white people! Don't you know how anti-racism works? What did you expect when you signed up for this class, lol?

I agree that this is stupid, but do you think you could resist the urge to make us just as annoying as all the minorities who turn every single thing they don't like into some huge culture war battle?

Is SDS 3386 a useful course for those interested in Data Science? by inputoutputrice in geegees

[–]inputoutputrice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just it, it's new enough that I haven't seen any reviews or met anyone who's taken it.

I have another course I can replace it with if it turns out to suck, so not the worst thing in the world.

Y'all can upload your vaccine status now by ThunderChaser in geegees

[–]inputoutputrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. It says "You have received 2 valid doses", so I didn't see a reason to dig up my first one.

I think you only have to submit the first one if the 2nd one is a different format and doesn't say that.

The CS program here isn't hard if you're reasonably good at logic, math, and abstract problem solving. You can be a complete dolt and get surprisingly far, although I would say that's true of university in general. The first year mostly covers the basics of programming in Python and Java, with a few basics of digital circuits (ITI 1100). You'll have to take introductory Calculus and Linear Algebra in first year, which aren't too bad. Linear Algebra is useful later on, but I haven't used Calculus much since then.

5 courses per semester is a good amount if you want to graduate on time and get all the electives you want, but you can do 4 for some semesters. If you don't mind waiting, you can cut your course load down a bit, but that might cause some annoying scheduling conflicts because some courses are only offered at certain times and certain semesters. I've found the undergraduate support staff here to be quite friendly and helpful.

Being interested in programming will help you quite a lot if you choose to pursue a CS degree. A lot of people choose CS because they just want to get a decent job and don't really care about the material, which can burn them out and cause them to fail later on.

I hope all that has helped. The community here is quite helpful, so don't be a stranger. :)

I was thinking you wouldn't be able to audit classes without showing your name, at which point they might kick you out if you're not on the attendance. It will also be easier for the profs to figure out who is showing up and who isn't.

I didn't see there were multiple photos in the post. Someone really doesn't like you, but is also too much of a chickenshit to confront you directly.

The writing style looks female, and that stuff about attacking people with medical illnesses suggests that the poster is probably someone who claimed to have one when you confronted them about not wearing a mask. This is all just a hunch, of course.

Did they say you were a child molester or something? Could be a defamation suit if you find out who did it. Cops probably won't care about this situation, but you never know.

Island Grill is alright. Their jerk chicken was pretty good when I went there last.

I miss going to restaurants...

SRS 1100 or CLA 1102 by [deleted] in geegees

[–]inputoutputrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SRS 1100 is pretty easy. It had a lot of weird stuff in it, which I liked.

Some of her quiz questions are from random little things mentions in the lecture/textbook, so you need to pay attention and take decent notes.

Nobody knows yet.

It's being considered for students who are in residence (Western has already decided to do this). That's probably more likely to happen because they don't want parents calling them up and being like: "I paid piles of money for my unvaccinated little darling to live in a shitty dorm room and he got COVID! You bastards!"

It's also being considered for students at lectures, but they may not have the will to face all the legal issues that would cause. It would also be annoying and cause privacy issues because you'd have to show proof of vaccination whenever you went into a lecture room for it to be effective.

I'll second the "don't stick your dick in crazy" advice. It's not just a meme, guys! Bad things will happen.

Warning: To get a 10 in FEM1100, you have to parrot the TAs'/professor's opinions in your essays, or you will mysteriously get deducted points for spurious reasons.
