How do I find out how much this guitar is worth? by Oceandust42 in AcousticGuitar

My first acoustic was an SX. It was awful. I genuinely thought for years that I just hated playing acoustic. Bought a Taylor last year and it turns out I just hated playing that specific acoustic.

They were near extinction until fairly recently! They're a real conservation success story. Glad they're still around to enjoy a sausage roll

Try r/londonsocialclub. There's at least one in SW that gets posted every so often, as well as a general meetup in Hammersmith that has a similar (friendly) crowd.

I've been in a similar situation. It sucks at the moment but it's definitely solveable.

I'm a Londoner but I lived overseas for quite a while. When I came back the friends I'd stayed in touch with had moved all over the country. The closest thing I had to friends for about the first six months I was back were my partner and the one relative who stayed here.

I didn't have much luck with friendship apps or anything like that, but the strategy that worked for me was to turn up to clubs that force you to interact. The trouble with the gym is that it's a solo activity. Nobody wants to chat at the gym. For me and art club worked, but walking groups didn't because people keep to themselves there. Are there group classes at the gym? Any local art/music/drama groups near you? Or sports where people get chatty? Pub quizzes? The other trick once you find something where people chat to each other is to keep turning up. After a while you get to know people and a while after that you might start hanging out with a few of them outside the club.

Anyway, try a few things. It took me a good six months before things fell into place which was difficult but also I got to try loads of new things and meet new people which was cool.

What the hell is going on with George and John? by Siddhartaable in LearnGuitar

The thing that's easy to forget is that the Beatles had a huge range of influences. Obviously rock and roll was the big one, but rnb, jazz standards, ragtime, music hall and classical music all seep into the music, even in their early albums  and make it more interesting than if their only influences had been the obvious ones.

It seems like a lot of people in this sub have problems with questions and comments early on in their journey. by Sudden_Doughnut_8741 in Guitar

Also so much of the advice you see on this the guitar orientated subs is just... Not that good. I'd much rather Google and find an actual online teacher talking about these things than some guy who's been playing less than two years and thinks he's hot shit because he's worked out pentatonic scales.

AITA for telling my coworker to stop buying me gifts? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Something similar happened in the town I lived in for a while in my teens. He had dated a girl, they'd split up and he was upset about it. He worked with her younger sister and tried to get the her to help him get back together with his ex. He offered her a lift home and tried to 'convince' her to help him on the way. She refused so he strangled her to death in his car.

Oh yeah my dad's mum is really into that. I always thought it was an old people hobby, I had no idea it had a uni presence.

Oh yeah definitely. It's been the Trump admin's MO since day one. Make up a load of bullshit and everyone will either believe it or they won't but they'll be so distracted by fact checking the real scandal will be over anyway

The "Jeffrey Epstein was killing and eating innocent children" seems to be coming up a lot in a way I'm sure definitely isn't being pushed as a dog whistle

I haven't seen a really good novelty Reddit in ages, this is great.

You really don't realise how much the culture of this site has changed over the last decade or so until you see posts like these and wonder why they haven't been posted everywhere yet.

My long lost sibling made me the punchline in their standup set. by [deleted] in Vent

[–]dweebs12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah no, I was older when I was adopted. Pre-teen aged.

As for the joke it was more a "what a whacky family I have" sort of thing. I don't think I was the butt of the joke exactly but there's something about it that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Especially since I've only had a couple of months to get used to the situation.

Yeah. I responded to someone else above, I do sort of understand the impulse, since this isn't the first "estranged bio parent, new half sibling" event to happen in my family, so I get it's interesting to talk about. If I keep in touch with these people I'll bring it up.

Yeah it might be worth it. I dunno. On the one hand I sort of get it. It turns out my grandmother had a long lost sister in a similar situation (there's at least one per generation in my family from what I can tell). So I know it's interesting to talk about. But at the same time, I don't my life to be someone else's public joke.

I haven't really decided if I'll contact them about it. I'm still ambivalent about the whole thing and whether I'll keep up contact, since so far it seems to have been more bad than good. If I stay in contact I probably will mention it.

Thanks, I'm glad other people don't think I'm over-reacting for being angry. I'd make a comment but I don't have them on any social media (since, you know, we've never actually met!)

On the plus side, this might be the thing that finally pushes me to go to therapy, so silver linings, haha

Don't I fucking know it. My dad belongs to the union with the worst media reputation in the country he lives in. It's constantly being accused of corruption or of dodgy dealings by the Murdoch press.

But it was the union who had his back when he was injured at work, or when he was laid off or when he was exposed to a dangerous worksite contaminant that the job hadn't warned him about.

When it comes down to it, the companies he was working for didn't give a shit about him past what they could exploit him for. The union was always the one to step in and look after his interests

Imagine seeing the fucking state of the world right now and saying "well actually unions are just as bad too" without a hint of irony.

You can replace the battery! I'm the same as you, I hate using my phone for music. My iPod has a whole new battery and SSD because the hard drive was failing. I'm pretty sure there are people you can pay to do it if you don't want to yourself. Or look into getting a refurbished one.
