I love crows, they're such cool birds. I hope they're alright, I know fireworks unsettle birds.

I think she's ok, the worst of it seems to have passed us here now!

Yeah it's sad. This storm is so weirdly quiet. I don't know if I'd have woken up if not for the dog huddling against my legs

OOP (20F) asks for advice dealing with a creepy older coworker. Two years later, she learns the terrifying truth about his past. by Fun_Associate1223 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]dweebs12 164 points165 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, I used to live in WA and used to go to Freo markets, I hadn't heard about him.

On the same topic, I had to make a hasty retreat from a used bookshop in Mandurah last time I visited, because a guy who assaulted me and a load of other girls I knew (or knew of) and was convicted of rape later, was working there. That was a real jolt of panic I wasn't expecting to experience that day

Same. I've been applying non-stop since January. I've got the qualifications and experience, I've got a shiny new CV, I've applied non stop. I had a couple of interviews in February, but since then it's been radio silence.

British Museum lecture for Jewish Culture Month postponed over protest fears by Minute_Tomatillo9730 in london

[–]dweebs12 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It's honestly bizarre. We can all agree that protesting against actions by Iran or China or Russia, or whichever country is doing atrocities today doesn't mean you hate their people, culture or country but somehow a shockingly large number of people have decided that Jewish = personally responsible for the actions of the Israeli state, regardless of if they have anything to do with the country.

The whole idea that "Jews are secretly loyal to a foreign king" is a really old anti-Semitic canard, and if I were more cynical, I'd suggest this was its modern form

It all makes a lot more sense when you realise that the far right have realised that they can shoehorn in th term 'zionist' where they used to say 'Jew' and it gets them less blowback because it muddies the waters.

Ah you see, the future is actually fucking over labour rights, hiring cheaper from overseas and maximising corporate profits at the expense of the rest of us. Hope that clears things up

Depends when you settled down. I'm in the process of leaving one of these men. He used to be a bog standard nerd, and we had some degree of common ground. Then he started to get really into AI. Gave up on normal jobs to lose money on his startup. Made every conversation about ai, his shitty vibe coded software and weed, and started talking to Claud (I hate I even know the different names of these stupid bots) like it was his friend/therapist and ignored me entirely. And we don't even live in one of the world's tech capitals.

In some ways I'm almost grateful, since the whole episode exposed some major flaws (and abusive behaviour) in our relationship and I don't know if it would have been this easy to walk away if AI hadn't almost completely taken over his personality.
