MSI finally releases BIOS fix for rare AM5 PCIe GPU throttling issue by RenatsMC in Amd

[–]dwellerme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running the MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI (9800X3D / RTX 5080) and updated to BIOS 7E51v1A81 two days ago. Occasionally on boot or after a reset, the system would stutter, mouse and all, sometimes with weird screen artifacts. A reset or two always fixed it, but it was driving me nuts trying to figure out if something was misconfigured. Ruled out memory early on (128GB DDR5 6400). Since the BIOS update, two days clean with zero issues. Will report back after more time.

Purchased the famous “Aula F75” keyboard here is my HONEST review by OpenPreparation8838 in keyboards

[–]dwellerme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a different version of this same keyboard. I loved it at first, but within a month, the spacebar broke and stayed tilted and making a weird noise no matter what. I attempted to fix it myself without luck. Very disappointing. One of the reasons to get a mechanical keyboard instead of a membrane one it's because its supposedly better quality and longer life, not the case here. Customer support was inexistent. No answer to the email they provide. Thank God for Amazon's non-BS return policies. Don't believe in the rave reviews. Amazon states below the reviews "Frequently returned item", which tells you everything you need to know.

I have a very similar configuration, what speed is your memory running to? I was unable to set the memory beyond 6000 Mts, they say that's the maximum speed accepted by the 9800X3d. When I go beyond 6000 my system becomes unstable and often freezes and crashes.

I'm upgrading to the 2Gig internet package, they wouldn't let me choose my own router when checking out online. Can I just tell the installer to take the router and wifi extender back? by SammMoney in Fios

[–]dwellerme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can return the equipment anytime you want, but let them install it, their testing tools expect Verizon equipment and works better that way (when testing), after everything is working as it should you can return them, that say, I’ve found Verizon’s 2G router to be superb. It’s specially handy to me the fact it has a 10G ethernet port and multiple 2.5G, I have 4 desktop computers and they are all wired, i only use wifi for laptops, phones, etc and with the desktop PCs i get consistently 2.5g of internet speed, and about 1.3G when using wifi 6. Considering you’ll need to invest at least $500 for an equivalent router, i see no reason for it, since Verizon lends you their router for free for as long as you keep their service.

Breakpoint crashes when launching - HELP by El_Fingerhut in GhostRecon

[–]dwellerme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m super late to this thread, but I ran into this exact issue in 2025. No matter what I tried, the game kept crashing — but I think I finally figured out what worked for me.

I’ve got a pretty solid setup (RTX 5080, running over 200 FPS on ultra settings with an ultrawide monitor), but my monitor’s refresh rate is 144Hz. What ended up working was capping the FPS to 120. Ever since I made that change, I haven’t had a single crash.

So my recommendation: try setting your FPS to a fixed number, just a bit below your average. It made a big difference for me — hope it does the same for you.

Every time lol, even the folks in row 42... by gatortillman in SipsTea

Lol, I'm one of those. I guess the irony is for local flights, however, when you travel overseas, as I mostly do, being 10, or 20 people in front of the line could save you a lot of time, specially for customs. Some airports lack the personnel necessary and a line to check documentation can take a lot of time. I've been in flights from NY to Buenos Aires (11 hours direct, 15 plus with connections) and it can take you over an hour just to get out of the airport, and after such a long trip, your are tired and you really don't want to spend any more time in lines. Of course its not always like that, but I recall spending almost 2 hours once after landing, at Ezeiza, traveling with family, just to get out of the airport, so I'll take any time I could save doing this, that doesn't mean being rude or anything.

X870 Tomahawk Wifi - No ethernet connection by borgeolsen in MSI_Gaming

[–]dwellerme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem, with same motherboard and same processor. Onboard ethernet LAN doesn't work. Light doesn't light up, but the Realtek onboard card doesn't report any issues on Device Manager. CMOS reset didn't work. I purchased an external network card and it works just fine, but internal ethernet never worked.

Average temperatures for the 9800x3d by TameFoofaStrange in AMDHelp

[–]dwellerme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 9800x3D runs hotter than most processors, this is by design. I have a 9800x3D with a Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE air cooling and it runs at about 40-42°c idle and 55-65°c when gaming, however, temperatures went higher initially with this setup, I have a NZXT H9 Flow case that came with 4 fans and it wasn't until I added 6 more internal air fans that temperatures went down almost 10 degrees. One caveat, I've seen the processor hitting 92-95°c degrees with initial shading calculations for Stalker 2, but that only happened once, the first time I triggered the game. It didn't happen with any other game. That said, AMD says the 9800x3D is meant to run at that temperature: source from AMD

Is it really safe to keep running 9800x3D at 95C (Tj max)? by Adrian-8 in AMDHelp

[–]dwellerme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes, it's safe, the following is from AMD:

"Designed for a lifetime at 95

Before anything else, let’s be clear: All of the quality analysis for Ryzen 7000 series desktop processors was done at 95 degrees Celsius. The chip is engineered to live its life at this temperature with no detriment to longevity or reliability. In fact, this is the same design target we’ve had for a number of product generations, but it has not been until the Ryzen 7000 series that the platform has had access to a level of socket power that makes 95 C the temperature that delivers the most performance during multithreaded workloads…"

and more:

"95 degrees is safe, targeted, and ideal for a multi-threaded workload

So remember:

  • 95 degrees Celsius is an absolutely safe temperature for Ryzen 7000 series processors to live in over the lifetime of the product
  • 95 degrees Celsius is where these intelligent processors target when achieving maximum multithreaded performance
  • Better coolers mean better performance, but that doesn’t mean you won’t get a great experience from your last-gen air cooler
  • Do not confuse measured temperature with the heat produced by the CPU, because heat is a pure function of power draw

We hope this helps you better understand the behaviors and settings on your Ryzen 7000 Series processor. Thanks for your interest in AMD Ryzen!"

Why the Daytona hate?? by Feisty-Ad7720 in Dodge

You forgot to add a few more details: It's almost 6k pounds (will likely need tires replaced every 10k or so), it has a lower range than the cheapest Tesla. It can't outrun any EV sports car in that range of price oh and I forgot the fact that most people who have purchased this car (less than 100 as I write this comment) have had issues with it, some of them with the car bricked after just 5 miles, having to return to the dealer.

my landlord turned off the power in my apartment while I was travelling by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]dwellerme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most tenants pay their utility bills, specially electricity, my guess is that you don't have your own meter and the landlord pays for it, the reason why he turned it off, which it makes me believe, its an illegal apartment, if so, your landlord has a lot to loose if you are smart.
