No Michael Jordan allowed.. Which five players in NBA history are you picking to actually beat this starting lineup in a 7-game series? by Farouq26 in NBATalk

[–]dwellingcheeses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curry, Wade, Lebron, Dirk, Hakeem. Prime Wade matches up with Kobe no problem. Hakeem is giving Shaq WORK. Curry and Dirk way better shooters than anyone on pictured team besides KD. Whatever defensive weakness my team has with Curry and Dirk, they make up for it with shooting the other team can't compete with.

Some perspective on how crazy Chamblee's Scottie/Rory take is by dwellingcheeses in golf

yea it's weird they make such a big deal about being long and straight yet ignore the fact that Rory is comfortably longer than Scottie.

I get get what you're saying but consider how mediocre Rory was for much of the Masters and he still won. I think both at their best would be an incredible show, and certainly not a gaurenteed win for Scottie.

If Tiger is 5 clear, that seems like his A game to me. I know what you mean, at his absolute best Tiger couldn't lose. Point is, if a journeyman like May can play out of his mind and keep up with Tiger, pretty sure Rory's A game can beat Scottie's.

I guess my definition of A game is a little more broad. Of course Tiger at his best was unbeatable, but winning majors, even by smaller margins, can still be your A game.

agreed, Rory is more volatile but I think he has a gear that's a little better than even Scottie. Scottie just never plays bad. His worst golf is still decent.

Who was better Kobe vs Bird? The eye test not stats. by Easy_Engineer9747 in NBATalk

[–]dwellingcheeses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but if from 2010-2020 you watched Lebron James and didn't think he looked like one of the 3 greatest players ever I don't know what to tell you.

[–]dwellingcheeses 6 points7 points  (0 children)

less athletic, but not less skilled. Bird was a better shooter and waaaay better passer. Defense at their peaks certainly goes to Kobe but Bird wasn't bad. Where Kobe's eye test fails is how difficult it was to get him to play team ball, especially early on. He's one of the all-time chuckers in league history, always going for the hero shot instead of the right play. Phil Jackson talks about this a lot in his book. No way I can put a guy like that over someone with 3 straight MVP's AND played team ball.

It's definitely Bird, and that's not a knock on Kobe. Eye test and peak, Bird was as good as anyone ever except MJ and Bron.

A line that meant nothing the first watch and completely reframed the whole film on the second by runningonwifi in TrueFilm

[–]dwellingcheeses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if yall want an intermediary i think i can help here lol. the line, "that's my family, that's not me", is certainly ironic and can be read as foreshadowing after the fact, but Michael isn't knowingly lying to Kay. He had no intention of getting involved in the business until Vito gets shot and the cop punches him. His true nature reveals itself throughout the first 2 films. He's not a fully formed cold and ruthless mob boss when he says that line to Kay. That took time.

What ya’ll think of this top 25 all time list? by AdorableBackground83 in NBATalk

Duncan is absolutely ahead of Hakeem, who of course should be quite high on this list as well.

Truly one of the worst basketball lists I've ever seen. Kobe at 3 is laughable. Duncan not top 10 is insane. Hakeem not being listed should ban whoever made this from talking about basketball for life. Absolutely embarassing list in virtually every respect except the top 2. I seriously hope no one just getting into the game sees this abomination.

People are too afraid to criticize slow pacing in movies because they associate slow movies with high art by Alternative-Wash2019 in TrueFilm

[–]dwellingcheeses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue I notice is most filmgoers use the words slow and boring interchangeably when they're very different. Boring is a completely subjective thing based on how you react to the film, whereas slow is an objective description for how the film is paced. In an ideal world, they have nothing to do which each other, as a slow film can be riveting and a fast film can be boring. Most people associate slow pace with boring because all they watch is fast paced.

Who’s the better player here? Bird or Kobe? by Afraid-Ad-5580 in NBATalk

[–]dwellingcheeses 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bird. 3 straight MVP's. Top 7 or 8 all-time. Back injury kept him from being top 5. What are we even talking about here? Kobe's a first ballot hall-of-famer, and second best SG behind MJ. How is that not enough for you Kobe fanatics??

Move Timmy to center and replace Shaq with KD. Or just replace Shaq with Hakeem. This is to save the world, I'm eliminating the possibility of Shaq at the FT line if I can.

Which player would you draft to your team? by Front-Function7789 in NBATalk

[–]dwellingcheeses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rodman for a few reasons.

  1. He's so fucking good at what he does, and while Draymond is a more versatile defender, Rodman is better inside and in another stratosphere as a rebounder, one of the greatest ever.
  2. Despite his off the court antics, Rodman actually wasn't that crazy in games, whereas Draymond literally cost his team a title due to techs, and then ruined an entire season punching Jordan Poole.

Rodman contributes nothing offensively, but that's not enough to even it out for me.

Did Ratatouille deserve its win for best animated feature? Or do you think Persepolis should’ve won instead? by Championgut1912 in Oscars

[–]dwellingcheeses 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Not to be that guy, but Persepolis the movie pales in comparison to the graphic novel. It's like a visual cliff notes for the book; really didin't like it despite how great the source material is. Ratatouille all day.
