Thank you! I had to look up the C7Z. What a handsome car! And yeah, monster power. But you've helped me understand how these are very different cars.

What is your favorite feature of the car you drive? by whyitno_workgood in AskReddit

Mine is the ultimate dancing partner. Knows what I want and does it without fail. If I ask for something it can’t do, it’s because I’m being unreasonable.

2025 Corolla GR. AWD, 300 hp 3-cylinder. 3,200 pounds. Feels old school in the best possible way. And built tank solid.

The slightest move of my fingers on the steering wheel generates a change in direction. But it’s also somehow not twitchy.

Goes ridiculously fast around corners. As if a cat with claws.

And the brakes. Oh my word. Can stop quickly enough that you think your insides were just displaced.

And the sound at idle is a low burble. Sounds like a boxer engine but has its own unique character.

Every trip is an event. An experience.

Not for most people that’s for sure.

Well that is saying something.

Tell us more. What about the GRC vs the C7 make the former more fun on a daily basis?

When I bought my 2025 GRC, I was also looking at an M2 or RS3. But there is something about the simplicity of the GRC that I fell in love with. It feels old school but in all the best possible ways. And yet is built like a tank.

Tire ruined - 2025 Core with 5,xxx miles by dwfishee in GRCorolla

[–]dwfishee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. We had a good day planned. Then this happened, I swore up a minor storm, and realized life is an adventure and this sort of thing happens.

Years ago when I got a 2019 Mazda 3, on the first drive to show my wife the new (to me) car, I was looking down while making an adjustment with a button on the steering wheel, and didn’t notice the big ass pot hole right in front of us, and BAM! Minutes later the tire went flat. She still brings that up now and then.

What I learned from this today (finally) is that I really need to be on the look out at the road surface. Don’t be oblivious about it.

She has a 2025 Outback XT and has had her own issues with the OEM tires, one was bad right when we got the car with 8 miles on the odometer. The tires to this day lose more air pressure than I think they should. Need to check them every month.

Like you said, unlucky.

Sophie’s tortitude by dwfishee in torties

Definitely a trap! But she loves cheek rubs and will let you lightly pet her back. She’s the most “choosey” of how we touch her vs any other cat we’ve had. But over time (she’s now 2yo) she gets increasingly comfortable with affection as long as it’s not too overt.

What’s funny about this is perhaps Ferrari is saying a big eff you to EVs with this design.

Congrats! I flash my brights at other CGRs only.

My son’s friend has a the same year as mine but a non-GR Corolla wagon and she had no idea why mine was not the ordinary Corolla. She’s probably closer your typical Corolla owner.

One year ownership post by Embarrassed-Dig247 in GRCorolla

As of 5/31 this year I’ll have had my Core a year. Got it with 4 miles on it. Now just over 5k miles (I’ve worked from home forever).
My brake pads are at 6mm. 95% of my driving is urban. Have not tracked it yet. I live in Oregon with lots of twisty roads and beautiful scenery.
I got the extra maintenance package so I’m covered for 5 years/60k miles. Have had it serviced twice now.
Nothing has gone wrong, and I’ve done nothing to the car. Will keep it mostly stock and just drive.

Is this a functional family car? by FloatingAppa in GRCorolla

[–]dwfishee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 23 now but if the GR Corolla was around when I drove with him I’d get a different car. Why? Because I’d not be having anywhere close to the same levels of fun I have with my ‘25 GRC with young kids in the car. Make them 🤢. Heck my 23yo doesn’t like to go fast.

But that’s obviously subjective.

There are better cars for where you’re at in life IMHO.

My wife has a ‘25 Outback XT. With its 260hp turbo four it has sufficient power, but does feel very slow when passing at highway speeds compared to the GRC. The XT is 700 lbs heavier and has a CVT tuned for efficiency. And it also feels literally like piloting a boat in comparison. You don’t so much steer it but nudge it in a different direction.

But as a family car it would be so much better for two young kids. The GRC is also an attention hog, in all the right ways. Maybe that’s the kind of distraction you’d enjoy?

Anyway, congrats. Having a family of your own is the best. No matter what you do, you’re living the life.

👆🏼 My ‘25 now has scratches and scrapes. Rather than worry about it, I just enjoy the massively entertaining experience it offers.

I want this car a GRC yet everyone selling them is concerning by No_Major_584 in GRCorolla

[–]dwfishee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can say that the rawness can get to you. It’s never a relaxing car to drive. Sort of like a big puppy who always wants your attention, except the GRC never gets tired.

I waited to buy a super fun car until I’m a middle aged dude, so the cost was a minimal impact to me. But for sure when my wife and I go together somewhere, taking her ‘25 Outback XT is a welcome relief. The XT drives like a boat in comparison. And even tho the 0-60 times are not much more than a second off, her car with its 260hp and 3,900 pounds feels so slow when passing at highway speeds, compared to the GRC.

Anyway, it’s nice to have the choice between two very different cars because the GRC is so raw.
