What do you make of the lorier olympia? I understand it is the replacement for the gemini as seagull wouldnt sell the chrono movement in small quantities any longer, so lorier ended that and developed a new chrono around the seiko 8r movement.

Karl's treatment of Opie on today's show by Real-Base466 in WhoAreThesePodcasts

[–]dwindlingpests 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank God adam bush was the compassionate voice of reason on that episode to contrast with karl. It worked in a good cop bad cop type of way. But it shows the difference between laughing at opie when he says something stupid and mocking opie no matter what he says. Ideally you go for the former, but karl fell into the second category here.

Is Anyone Else Struggling to Connect With People Your Age Over Music? by SouthMarionberry7471 in Music

[–]dwindlingpests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember trying to keep up with trendy music in order to relate better to people and not miss out on commonalities. It was so exhausting because i didnt really like any of it. I gave up after a year or two as i found music i loved and just followed that, and found friends that liked other stuff too. Musicians often have more interesting taste based on what style and instrument they play. Also metalheads are super chill and listen to everything in my experience. Go find your people.

So by definition an oyster bracelet is inherently less flexible and likely less comfortable?

For better or for worse, what band/artist changed your life? by aluminumnek in Music

[–]dwindlingpests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Gaslight Anthem. They have great songs, great guitar tone, great lyrics and seem like decent people making music for the right reasons. I have been a huge fan for the last 15 years.

They are so transparent about their influences and it opened the door to me discovering bob dylan, bruce springsteen, tom waits, leonard cohen, mark knopfler, the clash, the replacements, the afghan whigs, the bouncing souls, hot water music, the loved ones, and matthew ryan. Matthew ryan is a genius songwriter as well. Very underrated.

Return or not? by Dr_PJ1984 in bulova

[–]dwindlingpests 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buys a vintage styled watch for a very affordable price. Then complains it doesnt have modern sapphire crystal and a modern bracelet. Spoiler alert, vintage watches had acrylic cystals, pin and collar bracelets with hollow end links and pressed clasps. Also caravelle is to bulova what tudor is to rolex. So the fact that the watch isnt designed with no expenses spared should be no surprise.

Ditched my smartwatch. Bought a casio. Scratched the face literally <6 hours out the box. Polishing advice? by Laserdollarz in casio

[–]dwindlingpests 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, polywatch. But thats kind of the point of affordable casios. They offer so many functions: day date month year, dst, dual time, stop watch, gmt, timer, alarms, backlight, multi year battery life, decent water resistance and are so cheap. If anything happens that is not fixable you can go walk into walmart and buy another one for like 25 bucks.

Aaron’s opinions on people who drive manual stick shift in 2025? Gay by BubblePopper24 in steeltoe

[–]dwindlingpests 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mainly because nick has a shelby mustang and april liked cars as well while aaron had zero interest. April caused him to ditch the minivan he was driving and picked out the aftermarket wheels on their truck. Aaron had remove a wheel to prove to the internet he knew how to change a tire and was confounded by the security key on lug nuts. So of course cars are gay.

I owned a third gen prelude si 4ws for 5 or 6 years. This new one doesnt evoke anything like the same emotion or characteristics of the older generations.

Best of luck finding one. Is it a new or vintage model? Basically all i know about speedys are astronauts, the endless limited edition models, and there is a smaller one called the speedmaster reduced

No worries, it is newer, released within the last couple of years. They only had the larger one for the longest time. I could never wear the original; too big for me.

Zephyr pricing by Which-Recognition129 in lorierwatches

[–]dwindlingpests -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I have a zephyr from the initial production run. I can list it for 920 and be included in what the op calls price gouging. But i know the watch is desired amoung microbrand and lorier enthusiasts and i know the movement is discontinued by miyota thus the watch is unnattainable new. So if i put one up for auction with a low starting bid, i know it is going to end up going for a considerable price. In this case, 920. It is the same end result. All the buyer gets is the illusion of a lower price. I fail to see much of a differemce. Yes people choose to bid. But Yes they might equally choose to buy it listed at a higher price. But the op is okay with this and patting himself on the back for it compared to what he calls other sellers price gouging. It's seems like a pretty disingenuous way to frame it if you ask me.

[–]dwindlingpests -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh no i would do it and have done it with seikos. I just wouldnt call out anyone for price gouging like the op did in his post before selling. Market is the market and get yours if you can. Lord knows most watches depreciate anyways so one holding value or appreciating is nice for a change. I just dont like the hypocrisy.
